View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows Installer is still messed up on my computer. I've tried all the repair methods suggested on the Microsoft pages, but none have worked. The remaining suggestion is a Windows repair, but I'd like to avoid that drastic step. I don't look forward to reinstalling all the software I've accumulated over the past five years. The Windows updates alone would take the better part of a day.My question is: can you recommend a program which will remove every trace of MSIEXEC and every registry entry for the installer, so that I would be able to download and install version 3.0? I tried to do this, but upon starting the installation, got a message which said that the present Installer on my system was later than the one I was attempting to install. Seems an aborted install of version 3.1 had left enough traces to appear to have been installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst, my notebook has been working normally until yesterday afternoon. Windows XP Home Edition was installed by the manufacturer and was working properly. But yesterday, when I started up and logged on to my computer, and everytime since, Windows Installer automatically launches. It gives the message something like: "wait while Windows configures Windows XP." Then the installer asks me to to insert the Windows XP CD, which of course I don't have since Windows XP was factory installed on this notebook. I cancel the process and everything seems to work normally. Is there a way I can stop this from happening?

I loaded the disc to install drivers and the window is in Portuguese!I checked my regional language settings and it is in English. I even tried other discs to see whether that was the problem, it wasn't. This is the second disc I have received from HP and am unable to use the equipment due to this. I am running XP.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension E510 running Windows XP Professional. It came with a trial version of Microsoft Office 2003. I don't want this program so I uninstalled it using the Add/Remove Programs. Once I did that, Microsoft Money wouldn't work and I was getting an error message everytime I started the computer - an error about missing a DLL. To correct this, I ran System Restore, which put back MS Office 2003, but the MS Money was now working and the DLL error message went away. The problem now....every time I open a new window, open a program or click on a new email message the Windows Installer window pops up with the message "preparing to install". If I click cancel, it takes a few seconds to cancel and everything is ok, or if I leave it alone, it hovers for about 20 or 30 seconds and goes away. It's extremely annoying.

For the past 2 days, whenever I launch Internet Explorer (version 6) or the Control Panel, the Windows Installer launches first with a "preparing to install" message. This message will display for 2 minutes or so and then the Internet Explorer or Control panel window will be displayed. This is extremely annoying. Occasionally, when I attempt to print from Internet Explorer, the Windows Installer will also launch first and behave the same way. I have spent a day searching for a solution and the only thing I have found so far is a reference to a Windows Installer Cleanup utility
