I have dell computer with windows XP home edition operating system. It is three months old and I tried to install Norton internet security software. During the installation computer freezed halfway. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'll get right to the point. When starting up my computer, it doesn't make it to the desktop anymore. It goes halfway and then restarts.I restarted the computer, and the mouse still didn't work. So instead, I flipped the swith in the back of the PC to completely shut it off. However, the computer was still starting up on the desktop, but I've done that before without problems.
I turn the computer back on, and all of a sudden I get to a screen that says this:We apologise for the inconvenience,but windows did not start successfully A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. (Note: The only changes I made recently were the unplugging/replugging of the internet cable, mouse, and keyboard).
I'll be typing a sentence , and all of a sudden , the typing cursor will reappear halfway throigh the sentence i've just typed and start overwriting it. I did an AVG scan which found 60 tracking cookies , which i deleted , but the typing situation hasn't resolved itself. I thought i'd get a priest to exorcise it with holy water or get in touch with you guys. I have a feeling it may be connected to the firefox " aero fox "skin i installed yesterday or the coloured tabs addon as all the 60 tracking cookies came from mozilla.

After Xp loaded up I Installed Norton then spybot AD then some games after which I defrag and it took 8 hrs to defrag on a 100 gig HDD. The computer runs very slow and have no clue way.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy problem is is when I booted my comp up yesterday, norton comes up with some odd error about not being able to scan e-mail or instant messenger for viruses, and my internet on just this computer will not work. Now this happened with my other comp when the hard drive was failing. The computer will also at some reboots take forever to get into windows.Sometimes when I try to get into network connections or my computer, it will just hang or I get the flashlight icon scanning. I was able to back up most of my stuff, but when I tried to reformat, it kept saying to close all windows and I ended every program I could think of.I also tried a system restore to Saturday when it was working normal, but I have had no luck. Is it something with windows or is another HDD going? I'm thinking of just RMA'ing the HDD and do a whole new install. My only other option is to use a Linux Suse disk I have and boot from that and see if it works. View 6 Replies View Relatedearlier today I was installing Perfect Disk and right at the end of the installation, my computer restarted. After that each time Windows started up it would only get as far as the "Loading Personal Settings" part and it would restart again before I even get a chance to see my desktop.Figuring it was something to do with the failed installation of Perfect-disk, I entered Windows in safe mode (Without any restarts) and I disabled the loading of anything related to Perfect Disk.This didn't fix the problem and I tried disabling every single program on start up and that didn't fix anything either.I've attached the dump files from the Mini dump folder if that helps with the problem.

It looks I lost my booklet with the instalation code for my computer system. I bought my HP Pavilion a1012x 2 years ago. I created emergency, recovery dvd as instructed at that time. It looks I missplaced the code for the installation of it(can't find it anywhere). I wanted to clean my hard disc due to the fact that my comp has become very slow. I think reinstallation of the system would be the best solution as I tried for virus search, registry reparation, creating new recovery points, removing some programs but all without result. Is there any chance and way to recover my installation code from my computer now in order to reinstall my operating system from my emergency dvd? View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought all required computer parts and I'm assembling these together to build my brand new desktop system. I assembled all the parts and I'm trying to install the XP Home OS. Every time I try to do this, my system is behaving strangely. After the partitioning and formatting is completed, it threw an error saying C drive is corrupted. I restarted my system and started installing OS again. This time also I went thru' paritioning and formatting and it didn't complain the previous error. Now it failed while doing the setup saying it couldn't copy so and so file. I repeated the process again and now it complained it couldn't copy some other file. I tried this 5 to 6 times and each time, it complained a new different file that it couldn't copy and one of those I remember is appender.exe. Sometimes, it's not even recognizing the hard drive. It's saying that couldn't find hard drive on my system. I went thru' BIOS settings and everything looks cool.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I tried to installed Windows SP3 as well as a bunch of other things and my computer kept crashing and acting weird. I couldn't pin point it so I had to re-format my computer and lost lots of stuff. I also had to re-format about 4 times for some reason. Each time Windows wasn't installing correctly.
So after a brand new fresh install of Windows XP I updated my computer and installed SP3. As soon as I did that my computer wouldn't log into windows anymore and once again I lost a few things. Now I know that SP3 is a bunch of crap.
I decided to make the move and give SP3 a try,I shouldn't have bothered!All went well, and the system rebooted, well into the boot sequence I was greeted by a blue screen:STOP: C0000139 {Entry Point Not Found}The procedure entry point GdiGetBitmapBitSize could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll.
Naturally, I fired up Acronis True Image and restored this morning's image, but I figure at some point they'll try to push this update down on patch Tuesday
I recently reformatted my computer and installed windows xp home and keep running into a problem when starting the computer. It tells me that two operating systems are installed and that I need to select which one I want to run. Both are windows xp home. If I choose the first one it runs fine if I choose the second one I get a message that says: Windows could not start because of a computer dis hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

I have to turn everything off, unplug the External hard Drive and then everything operates normally. Once the computer is booted up I can reconnect the external hard Drive and all works fine. The othe rnoticeable difference ids that the computer has become very very slow to respond to commands.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV model ST380021A. Don't know if it's SATA or not. I have a SOYO SY-P4VTP M/B. After I do a clean/new install on a formatted drive, (I even installed the SATA drivers that came w/ the mobo just in case) the computer freezes on reboot after the initial installation where it says "Setup will continue after reboot" or something like that. @ the bootscreen with the logo, the bluish bar scrolls a couple of times and freezes. Does anyone know why? I tried installing at a friends house and it worked fine so I know it's not a harddrive error but I place it in mines and it doesn't work so I create a new install and same problem.. I know it's not a temp issue since it's running < 100 F. THis is a genuine copy of XP. Just in case I used my friends.
