Still No MMC Or Group Policy Editor
Aug 22, 2005I still cant get it to work. Do you have anymore Ideas. NOTE: in the
Enviormental Variables there was no PATH string. Only a PATHEXT one. I did
not touch this one. I added a PATH string with the following line
%SystemRoot%system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%system32WBEM which I believe
is correct. Still no MMC or Group policy editor.
The MMC still gives me the same error. I still cant get into the group policy editor or MMC. I tried yours and wesleys Ideas.
System Policy Editor - POLEDIT.EXE Command.

Sep 17, 2005On WinXP Pro I can access "gpedit.msc" to change the QoS bandwidth to speed up my DSL connection. Unfortunately gpedit is not available on WinXP Home. Is there a way to change it through the registry?

In Windows 98 I knew the name of the file that was the Policy Editor but I've searched and thought and I can't come up with the name of the file that is the Policy Editor or Group Policy Editor in XP. I know there is one because in Tweak UI, you can go into About>Policy>Run Group Policy Editor. And it runs.

Sep 5, 2009If I use any program other than windows explorer to check my HD space, it says about 20 gigs left, windows right now says 0kb on both c, d and e partitions. I run off e at the moment.A few days ago I deleted lots of files and just made a huge 15 gig txt file because I was bored... then I deleted the txt file and the space didnt change (I made sure it was deleted, I know the recycle bin doesnt do its job) and as the space didnt change I used a program called Rollback RX to rollback my HD to a few days ago. so I got my deleted files back (from before the txt file) and checked windows says I am running out of space.

I though it was possible through group policy but I cant seem to figure out where the setting is. Nov 14, 2006I have a home machine, running XP PRO, SP2. I am attempting to set up a small home network for the files transfer wizard and for internet usage. Internet usage was a snap, but I am having issues transferring my old files due to the Windows Firewall being controlled by a Group Policy. I have tried running gpedit and it is not recognized. I have no group policies that I have ever installed, and this is the first time that an ethernet card has ever been installed on this machine. Again, until now, I have not ever even heard of a group policy, let alone created one. It's driving me batty. I have searched all over for a solution, including Microsoft, but to no avail. Apr 16, 2008I had Windows Explorer open while running my compter today and noticed that C:Program Files and C:Windows folders was growing. They must have started out at about 1GB or so and by the time they had stopped growing the C:Program Files folder was a little over 3GB and the C:Windows folder was a little over 4GB. I don't know if this is normal or not but am including the text from a HiJackThis log. I am running Windows XP Pro. Can someone tell me if there is a problem or if this is normal?

Apr 15, 2008My son gave me his laptop after mine quit, it has WinXP in it, as my other one did. However, this computer does not have Windows Explorer in the program files. (I know it's supposed to be in Program Files/ Accessories--it just is missing) I don't know how to do anything without Windows Explorer.

Jul 26, 2008All of a sudden I can not download any programs, music files etc. I just get the above message in my Mozilla Firefox download screen. The same thing happened when I tried Internet Explorer.
I am running Windows XP and using Firefox 3.0.1. The problem is that Download blocked by Security Zone Policy, I have gone into the Internet section of control panel and reduced the zone protection to the minimum. I have turned the firewall in McAfee off. These actions did not have any effect. I am not aware of any other program on my computer that would cause this to happen. I use Sypware Doctor, but I disabled that also. My computer is set to load Windows updates automatically and that would be the only software updated I might have loaded.
