View 6 Replies View Relatedi have xp sp2 160 gb hdd with 4 partitions. c ,d,e and f (all ntfs). whenever i start or restart, a scandisk starts in f drive which is 100gb. it copletes step 1 and step 2. but it gets stuck at 0% in the third step without any message. no errors are shown in the first two steps. so i have to cancel the scannings everytime. even i installed a new os in the d drive even that is showing the same thing.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOut of no where my computer has started running scandisk each startup (after proper shutdown). On top of that, scandisk gets stuck at 0%, and won't budge. I've tried starting up in safe mode and I can't even do that. Currently I have to wait for the scandisk screen, and press a key within the 10 seconds so scandisk doesn't get stuck. I would like to be able to run it completely and have it not bother me every start up.

When I try and empty Deleted file I get an error message saying they can not be deleted and there may be some damaged section on the main drive. It then says I should run Scan Disk or similar.
There is no ScanDisk but I went control Panel, c drive, properties and ran Ckdisk.
It takes a while to run and I have done it several times, as well as Disk Cleanup

As i start up my laptop and it runs through start up my scandisk starts up before it loads windows xp.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAlthough I am running Windows ME I could not find a group listed for that OS so I assumed that for this problem XP is comparable(?). The problem is that for some reason on startup my computer wants the run scandisk. There seems o be a problem with scandisk because about three-quarters of the way throught the sacn it locks up. If I cancel the scandisk my computer seems to be acting OK but if I don't hover over the computer on startup I have to do a hard reboot

My windowsXPpro has hung and given me a blue screen and it says smth like: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent any damage to your computer. "If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart i'm not too sure what the message is as my laptop will have restarted before i even get to read finish the screen.i knw this isn't helping much but until it happens again, i can't provide more information.
After restarting, it'll go into scandisk as normal after a crash. however, it will then scan VERY slowly until about 56% where it will hang. i think there is a last message but as it took me many MANY tries restarting and skipping scandisk
I run ScanDisk on a locked drive eg the drive with my op system and it suggests I run it at bootup, the bootup fails (and there is no Scan)- after the initial beep and basic b&w info, the screen just goes blank (no mouse pointer etc) - the red light flashes away on my PC box indicating a lot of hard drive activity though, but I've left it half an hour and it's got nowhere. Exactly the same happens if I instruct my anti-virus program to do a boot-time scan (Avast). My only recourse is to press F8 at bootup and select Start with Last Good Configuration and I can get back into Windows.

I installed XP-Home edition on a computer and did a file search for any file for Scan Registery and ScanDisk, but did not find any such file For Win 98/SE, the O/S at the start of computer, backs up the Registery - by defalut 5 back-ups, 1 for each day, but can be increased up to 99. If the Registery get's corrupted (or you want to remove all traces of a just installed and uninstalled program, you can shut down the unit, re-boot with F8 to Command Prompt and run: ScanReg (DOS Mode) and restore the 4 files: System.dat, User.dat, System.ini and User.ini Is there a similar functionality available in XP - Home Edition? Is there such file Win XP version?
View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is a virus or an install problem or software conflict.Recently, computer slowed a lot and has to search for 2-3 minutes everytime we reference "My Computer".Also, several apps have an error message (usually when running something IE related perhaps a time-out issue?)that say "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose "Switch to" to activate the busy program and correct the problem".But the kicker is, there IS no other program running.Sometimes it will connect when I hit the "try Again" button offered on the error message, but sometimes not.
