Anyhow, I made a few upgrades around the first of the year. Problem is I did so in a manner that made it very difficult to troubleshoot the source of my BSOD. I upgraded the ram, PSU and hdd, I also added a few programs. I reinstalled windows, of which I am a veteran of doing so unfortunately, I also ran memtest and a multimeter to check the rails of my PSU, all are solid and spot on. The programs I bought were DVD backup software, namely 1 click DVD copy Pro.The BSOD happens randomly, and sometimes I don't see it for a week. It happens when I start the PC, when I watch a non DVD movie (mpeg, etc.) and view pictures. Its also happens when I try to use 1 click DVD copy, the PC will restart after the encoding process starts. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't. The fact that the BSOD happen so randomly has made it difficult to get an idea of what it might be.
My antivirus detected krag.exe and removed it from my flash drive. However, when I try to open the drive by double-clicking on the corresponding drive (F in My Computer, a pop-up window appears saying "Choose the program you want to use to open this file:". I chose windows explorer since it's what you use when trying to explore or browse through files.
The problem is, the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is grayed out and can't be checked/ticked. So, I have to keep pointing the "open with" pop-up box to explorer.exe whenever I want to browse the files in my flash drive. The last attempt that I did to fix this problem was to right click on the drive letter then properties then went to the autoplay tab and chose "Open folder to view files". The "Open with" pop-up box still appears whenever i double click on the drive letter.
I was tweaking the services on Win XP pro & managed to mess things up a bit. I am now unable to start most services including firewall, RPC, audio, win installer, networking etc. I get mostly Error 1068 can't start dependencies. Web Client service is stuck on 'stopping' even after several reboots. I am unable to open properties dialog for individual services also. Computer is somewhat functional, has internet access though it is totally unprotected as I can't get antivirus to start. Copy & paste is also not working. I am unable to restore. I have tried safe mode but nothing. I tried to edit the registry to start the RPC but it didn't work (perhaps was wrong set of instructions for problem). The RPC startup seems to be enabled but says it can't start error 1058, no enabled devices associated with it. I don't have XP disc so I can't go into recovery either. I have procured XP support tools but can't install it. I have tried everything I can think of.
i have no cd rom now, tried to troubleshoot and get error code 39,i have no system sounds either, but can speak in the mic and be heard.if i reset the pc to factory settings will this solve the problems?
I'm experiencing a 100% consistent hang problem on one of my XP Pro SP3 machines. It occurs every time I run Acronis Disk Director 10 and possibly other programs such as the Disk Manager and a few others.
What happens is this: I launch Acronis Disk Director 10, which loads and runs without error for about 60 seconds, whereupon the system hangs completely: CTRL+ALT+DEL does nothing, and I have to reboot. Exactly the same thing happens when I run Acronis' troubleshooting tool.
I run Windows XP Home SP2 and enjoy listening to internet radio for hours at a time while doing non-computer activities. On several random occasions lately, the audio stream has stopped and I discover my desktop has locked up...with no response from keyboard or mouse. After a reset, I've checked the event log and Dr. Watson (drwtsn32.log) but can find no entry, including date/time, related to the freeze. My system runs cool, regularly showing 34C and 35C for board and CPU temps, with all fans at appropriate speeds. My firewall, antivirus and antispyware apps are regularly updated. I haven't installed new hardware or apps in weeks. What other tools are available to troubleshoot this kind of freeze?
My daughter has asked for help with the removal of music from her mp3.When she tries to move or delete anything she gets a message saying 'cannot read from the source file or disk'. As I know absolutely nothing about mp3's I said I would try here.
It says verify that you have access to this location and try again or try to find the installation package "itunes.msi in a folder from which you can install the product itunes. Another The installation source is not available verify that the source exists and that you can access it.Another...this action is only valid for products that are currently installed.
I have a folder on my C drive that does not have a name. I am unable to move or delete, or rename the folder. It contains no sub-folders or files. I get the message " cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk.
I have a file in my start menu and I would like to find the source of this (shortcut) file. I tried right-clicking, viewing properties. It does not say where the shortcut comes from. Also, the file is Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, but I can't find the original file .exe where this is launching from. I checked C:Program Files, but that only has the initial set up files. Where are the actual files?
Look at his pc and i cant open anything. tried to start at CMD and cant even get started to look at his system. His norton apperantly was turned off by 'outside' source. Does this sound like only solution is to wipe HD and re-install OS ? If so, how hard is it to wipe. Has a mass produced HPpavilion 523n.
when I press the power button (and I've tried turning it on off of the battery, battery and outlet power, and just the outlet power), the light turns on, I can hear the regular whirring, but then the power button starts to flash, as if it's in standby mode? I've tried pushing a few buttons on the keyboard, tried pushing the escape button, tried pressing even the wireless LAN button that's at the top... nothing. When I press the power button, nothing happens unless I hold it down for five seconds, then it just turns itself off again.

I tried FXP delte and GSO but they said the device attached to this system file is not functioning correctly. So how can i delete it. I think it is bit defender causing the problem but i don't know for sure. Can anyone help me delete these files and also run them AND also when i try to run or delete or even click on it will pop up and bit def will say virus alert pc not affected. Also tells me the path mostly it is in my application data. But when i go there and try to delete i can't either.
My comp recently just caught an virus and I have tired many anti-virus programs to remove it and so far, no luck.Avast reported the file that is infected, but is unable to delete it. So I decided to check it myself, it's a file in my systems/drivers and when I tired to delete it. It saids the following "Cannot delete uwvwibuv: Cannot read from the source file or disk.". I have tired using "Unlock" to delete it, doesn't work.Note, this virus is also causing all my anti-virus programs not to connect online, so I cannot update them. I have tried using Malwarebytes-antiware, doesn't detect it. I can't use system restore because it's being blocked by group policy after "I caught the virus" (Worked before).I had tired running in safe mode, checking task for unknown programs, and I can't delete it.
How I thought this was a Nero problem but I Have just uninstalled one version of Nero 6.6.0.8 and replaced with my bros earlier version 6.6.0.3 both original discs. This problem is also seen on Clone DVD2.I am now convinced this is a Windows problem. This is whats happening.I am unable to copy DVD's with Nero whether they are Video/MP3 files.Every time I click on copy I receive a warning "disc capacity not big enough".I had the same problem 4 years ago with totally different equipment and totally different software and I remember wiping the hard drive to solve it.(which is not the way I want to go)I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition Version 6.6.0.8 installed ( Now 6.6.0.3 )
I cannot read properly my security section of the event viewer anymore. The description of an item is now like the following: "The description for Event ID (538) in Source (Security) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: IUSR_<myUser>, KIP, (0x0,0x5229A9), 3." Moreover, the category are now filled with numbers. I found on the web that the reason is probably due to some loss of permissions. i checked the .evt files and my user has full control over them. Is there something else to check?
I had to buy a new Hard drive and OS (XP Pro) because of some critical windows problems. After it's all installdw, updated, and running, I find that it's running a whole lot slower then it used to with the old HD...I figure if anything else with the Clean HD and new OS it should run faster then the old. Any suggestions on why it has slowed down so much?
I have a folder in My Documents that has set up permanent residence there. No matter what I do I cannot get rid of it. The message that I get is, "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk."
I am connecting to a client's server via a VPN connection using Remote Desktop Connection on my XP home system.I have to run reports, convert to excel and then need to either print the report or transfer it to my local drive or a USB stick. I have checked access to local drives and printers, like I have in the past, but I can't get the file to print or transfer. My printers aren't listed as installed and when I copy and attempt to past on the local machine, I get an error that the source and file disk are not available
I'm trying to delete programs I dont use anymore, and hava a couple which are not showing up in add-remove programs, so I do a search for those programs and find them. The problem I'm having is when I click on the file (s) and then click on delete I get the following error message: cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk.
I am encountering this error when copying a large number of files from one external hard drive to another. I have Windows XP. A number of files will copy prior to the error occurring. The error occurs when the copying process reaches a file that my Trend Micro security software had identified as a virus and had quarantined. Instead of simply skipping the file that cannot be copied and moving to the next, Windows Explorer displays the error "Error copying file: cannot read from source or disk" and aborts the copying process, leaving the copying process only partially complete. Copying each folder or file individually to avoid encountering the error would be very time consuming.
I'm having a problem "finding" my music files after I moved some files around on the computer between users. My simple solution was to copy them to an external HD and the re-load them so I searched for all music files then selected all and attempted to copy them to the external HD, but I got an error message: "cannot copy file.cannot read from the source file or disk".
I made a folder (right click/new folder) on my desktop and used it to keep some files I received organized. When I was done with the job, I erased everything and when I went to delete the folder, it tells me: Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk.
I have tried deleting it on boot (?) but those programs only delete files not folders.
I am looking for a tool that I can use to go back to previuos versions of files on my Windows PC. Basically I would like something like the "Time Machine" that will be part of the next MacOS. All tools I have yet seen do not create transparent versions the way I want them to. Either they require user interaction (like most document management and source code management systems),or they run periodically (once an hour or so). I frequently find myself having screwed up or deleted or overwritten a file, a presentation or a letter, by accident and I want to go back to the original. I don't think I need the functionality to roll back the whole system to a particular point in time. Probably using "My Documents" or something below that would be sufficient. After it might be a question of the storage space at some point.
I have a 0 byte file setting on my desktop I can't get rid of. The error message says "cannot delete file. cannot read from source file or disk." Nor can you cut, copy, rename or do anything else with it. I googled the error message and have tried a number of suggestions without help, i.e.: safe mode and command prompt, etc. I tried Move on Reboot without success. I even resorted to restoring back prior to before the time this started without success. It was originally a business email that I saved to my desktop. When I opened the email to read it this icon appeared. when I deleted the original email this one stuck around and around and around. There must be some registry edit or something else I can do to get rid of it.
i have been recently trying to play counter-strike source, this is what caused me to take a look at this when it would not load. it looks like something may be wrong with my video device
I read the advice to start in safe mode to delete files that gave the errror message cannot delet file - source file not found. They wouldn't delete in Safe Mode either. I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.
I have files in my recycle bin. My recycle bin shows nothing when I open the folder but there is 6 items in the folder. I have tried to delete them through C: ecycler but when I try that I get an error on the bottom of my screen that says The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
