I, whilst trying to connect to my university network, deleted my LAN connection and I have tried everything to get it back. I have searched the computer but it is no where to be found. I tried using the Create New Connection Wizard but could not create a LAN connection.

Now That it's been a while I want to delete that folder but it keeps telling me I can't that access is denied. any ideas how to get rid of this folder? It's almost 35 gigs on my 80 gig hard drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile troubleshooting a failed internet connection (Windows XP Home, SP 2) I installed Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 (probably a beta version) that wasn't downloaded from the windows website. I've since uninstalled it, so I am now running IE 6, but IE 7 left something behind. Now, when I connect to the internet I get to my home page, but when I select a link I get a blank web page and the error message "Windows cannot find ˜(null). Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click Search.Through research on the internet I've found that the registry key "C93E5AB5-7B71-4C31-B6B2-7F922A551EFF" needs to be deleted to fix my problem. I've tried with no success. I've tried adding "Everyone" to the registry users, changing the permissions so all users can access the registry and tried to delete the key, downloaded Registry Fix software, I've tried deleting it using regedit and regedt32 and I've run the program IE7betakey.reg with no success.

When I execute the ipconfig /all command it doesnt list anything and Local Area Connection is missing from my network connections. What happened and more importantly how do I fix this. I tried restoring my computer to several different dates within the last half week and I still get the same problem when restoring to all those dates.
I didn't see which one it was, but its silly that it gives you no warning and I accidentally clicked the delete button on the system variables than the user variables.I've restarted my computer and so far its fine, but does anyone know what I can do to get it back? Do I need it?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI suspect I have an infection on my PC (win2000) but none of my tools are finding anything. TO recap, I did have the msblast/sasser virus but removed it a while back. Since then, I've had the infamous lsass.exe shutdown. Luckily, I have zone alarm firewall so the shutdown only occurs if I disconnect the firewall.I want to fix this once and for all so I downloaded W2k Service Pack 4 and the 'RPC' MS fix (Kb823980-x8-enu.exe). I thought that would fix the problem but no.I've also run other tools like stinger, vcleaner, spybot, adware, antivirus software. I keep the versions/dat files updated.At this point I'm not sure where to start so I'm posting the log results from hijack this. One thing I noticed is that svchost.exe process occurs 3 times. I seem to recall seeing cmd.exe pop up for a second and a 3rd occurence of svchost.exe followed right after.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computer and a printer hooked up to a firewall then to the DSL modem. about once or twice a day either 1 or both computers loss connection and the only way to get them to come back up is to restart the computers. Other ways it happens are one will be down without Internet and the other will be working fine. Both computers are HP's running win XP. I am at a remote location that the store connects to. i can ping to the firewall and see it within a min of them calling me and telling me it is down. i dont ever see any errors or lost packets or anything on the firewall.
The things i have done.
1) I have replaced both computer 2 different times.
2) rewired the store with cables from walmart.
3) replaced the modem (replaced by dsl provider - they show the circuit is fine)
4) replaced the firewall
5) gone through hijack this logs even on a computer i set up for them the day before.
6) got a battery backup for the computer in the backroom.
I ve just deleted some important files by accident, and I could not find them on the recycle bin Is there any way I can have these files back?

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy cable is not working properly.Every 15-20 minutes my internet connection is broken even though the modem is online and there is no problem with the cable coming into my house. I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. View 14 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?
