my cookies will not save to my computer anymore. Everytime I shut off my computer, the disappear and that didn't usually happen until recently when I ran my Norton Antivirus, but it may be some other problem that I'm not sure of. I checked my internet options
I only have 1 user on my computer, but it doesn't automatically log-in for me anymore. I never changed the settings, it just did on it's own this morning for some reason. Also, now for some reason instead of going to a screen saver when I'm inactive for like 10 minutes, it will instead take me back to the log in screen. Also, how can I stop Windows Messenger (a weak version of MSN Messenger) from starting when I turn on my computer? I'm using Windows XP.
Using XP Pro SP2.Windows explorer doesn't show c:documents and settings/jdl/cookies folder when opened from the start->programs menu. However, Start->Run with c:documents and settingsjdlcookies typed in opens the folder. Folder options->View has the "Show hidden folders" option checked.I do not have the windows xp disk since the program was loaded from a corporate server several years ago. I no longer work for that company.Any assistance would be appreciated. Not a big deal since I can access the folder. It may, however, indicate that other problems are afoot. I discovered this when Counterspy Ver. 2 Beta identified the cookie from CNET Networks, Inc., and I couldn't find it in Windows Explorer.
How come my sister computer is blocking all cookies? she went to one of her sites and it says to enable cookies.can someone tell me how to do that please? (im not sure if this has anything to do with the cookie blocking but she is using zone alarm security suite for her anti-virus and firewall)
My computer has been running really well for the longest time. I've had no problems at all. Then just like 2 days ago my computer started running really slow. Whenever I open up a messenger it hangs and then freezes. I ran my spybot detector and there were a few things but I got rid of them. My virus scan was clear and I also ran my disk defragmenter. I'm not sure if I got a virus somehow. I deleted all my cookies and files.
I've been searching for most parts of the net and the forums here and did install uninstall restore my notepad, paint and wordpad but nothing seems to work. When these files are opened, nothing seems to be a problem. But whenever you attempt to save by Ctrl+S, or the by clicking File>Save or File>Save As the program automatically closes. This has been a consistent behavior for the 3 softwares.I'm using Windows XP 64 bit OS and had no error messages of any sort except that these programs just close themselves when a save attempt is done.I did virus and malware scans by Avast, ESET Nod & Kaspersky and nothing was detected.Reinstalling isn't an option for me now as I don't have any optical drive... besides, this may be very hard for me but I'm willing to suffer for the sake of learning.
A while back I had a program or a tweak that enabled me to change/add to the list on the left side of the window that opens when you want to save or save as. So, if I was saving a photo, instead of clicking on My Documents >> My Pictures, I was able to just click on My Pictures, ect. (See Photo) Does anyone know of a tweak/program that would allow me to do this?
I've been trying to figure out this problem that I have with Windows XP but to no success. My computer has been disconnected for about 3 months. And i've recently moved into another place and hooked up my computer. But my problem now is when I download new programs onto my computer, it does not save onto my computer. When I turn off my computer and turn it back on, the program I just installed is not there no more. Same thing when I add media files to my Windows Media library, it stays on there till the computer shuts down. And when I turn the computer back on, I have to load the files on the library again.
actually at my work place i'm trying to download some hindi mp3 music files but somehow it not working. as I'm trying to right click on the song link and by selecting 'save target as' its openning the dailog box to save it but at this point it trying to save as HTML documents instead of mp3 format.if i try manuaaly to change file extension from html to mp3 than i can not play this file as it gives error about class-file of media player.I checked on Internet explorer tools internet option and security tab and verfied download file is enabled.
When downloading files, any type files, just using IE's dialog, or using a Download Manager's dialog, Explorer's Save or Save As panels *will not* allow me to create a new folder on XPpro [current user's] desktop! I am allowed to save the file to the desktop, and of course, can then create a new folder directly on the desktop with the context menu, and etc. It will allow me to create a new folder anywhere else and save any type file being downloaded into that new folder. It simply will not allow me to create a new folder on the Desktop.Could this be some kind of registry alteration?
I noticed this problem like a week ago. I tried to download and save some vids, but the windows that says the percent of your download just freezes. I thought it was a problem with the vid, but now I see it's the computer.Whatever I try to dowload it's the same problem. What can it be? It was fine before.
My computer started deleting files. A DOS window popped up and began systematically deleting programs and files. I was able to stop it by turning off the computer. When I turned on the computer again the random deleting had stopped, but I had lost my music files and my mail files. If this wasn't a virus, what else could cause this to happen?
I've been thinking of installing Windows XP Pro on my laptop (it came with Windows Vista Home Premium) and I have an older computer that doesn't get any use anymore that has Windows XP Pro (came with the computer). So can I use my Windows Xp Pro disk from my old computer to install it on my laptop, or will it only work on the old computer?
Last nite, I picked up a worm or virus. It added doser.exe, and a dialer, and some others to my Windows/system32 folder. I went into safe mode and got them out.But now, I can't get any images on my desktop. It doesn't even show an option to do it from the properties window. The browse button is greyed out. However, it DOES show the background right after it boot up. At that time, there are no icons. Then the background becomes a solid color and the icons appear. Otherwise, the system SEEMS to be running fine.
I've had this laptop for a couple of years now and I could make ithibernate or standby as I pleased. About 1-2 weeks ago it would nolonger do this. If I go into control panel then power options thereisn't even a hibernate tab anymore either. If I press the power button(or click on start then turn off computer) the box with standby isdimmer so that I can't click on it.
I have a VGA USB camera#2 (I-cam 330) and i can't seem to use it anymore since system backup takes up 23% and my modem takes 35% of the bandwidth and my cam needs 60%.
My new custom built computer on a AMD Athlon 64 chipset 3400+ was working yesterday and today when I reinstall windows over three times the internet wasn't working anymore. The reason why I reinstalled in the first place was because the sound wasn't working well.I think my ethernet card is disable.
Suddenly ctrl-alt-delete does not work anymore. I don't know how it happened but now when I press them nothing happens. This is really annoying because I have a lot of programs running that reeaaallllyyyy slow up the computer. I do have ad aware but that does not work.
I have xp home with the current media player. When I click on a cda file from a music cd I get this message:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path, verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be available.
It plays mp3's, but quit playing cda music cd's. Any help is appreciated.
some hours ago, I tried to run regedit as usual by using "Start | Run", but it said:regedit.exe - Unable To Locate ComponentThis application has failed to start because clb.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. I checked my running processes as well as restarted the PC. clb.dll was located at SysWOW64 (being a 32-bit dll, obviously) but not at System32 (where only 64-bit-files are stored), copying it to System32 didn't change anything. After a while of searching the inet in vain I realized I hadn't tried to start regedit.exe or regedt32.exe in SysWOW64 (but regedt32.exe in System32, which gives the error), and surprisingly, it worked. Still the problem remains: I can't start it using "Run" anymore (which worked since 18.05.2005), and I didn't change anything big but uninstalled WindowBlinds (a windows skinning software which worked quite well for many months). Could WindowBlinds be the reason, and if so, how? Moreover, will I experience further problems?(msconfig still works normally and can be started by "Run"; often, this isn't possible when encountering the regedit clb.dll error).
I just installed winXp on a freh deive.Everything was going OK, I installed all the required apps. Anti Spywares, antivirus, firewall etc. Now suddenly the double click does not work on the desktop icons. If I right click and click Open, then everything is fine but the double click does not work.
I am in desperate need of help. My Windows Xp Home Edition Sp2 (up to date) will not boot. I turn it on, and it comes up to the welcome screen, the screen looks as if it is still loading, but i click on my account (1 of 5 others) to login, and suddenly the other icons disappear and the hour-glass appears as if loading, but it just stays that way. I was able to logon prior to this and the characteristics were similar, some of my desktop icons were missing and my norton internet security came up with an error report saying something about not being able to properly run along with my mouse driver and my free ram xp pro came up with errors. I shrugged it off and went to look at the event viewer, but before i could start it up the blue error screen came up. I didn't copy down the entire code (figuring it would come up again.
I went to a LAN party so I unplugged all my cables from the pc. When arriving at the lan party I plugged everything back in and booted into Vista Ultimate. Everything was detected properly and I encountered no problems. But when I got home again I wanted to boot into Windows XP Pro and that's where the problems started.
I was running a program called "Virtual DJ", and it's a dj program, that turns the resolution to full screen, but while the app was in the process of going to full screen, my pc froze due to a lot of programs I had running, so now, the resolution on my computer is not how it normal should be, meaning, its not crisp like it was before, I mean at a first glance, most wouldnt notice anything, but if you look close, you can tell the text and icons are slighty stretched and blurry, so im going to post a screenshot of this page,so comapare this picture with yours, and look closly.I tried a system restore, but that dosnt even work(different issue)I think ti has to be a problem with the video card? Is there a way i could completly restor all display settings to factory...

There were some new features on my taskbar, the language bar to be exact. Now I went to the taskbar properties, selected toolbars and disabled the language bar. Afterwards I shoveled a bit with the positioning of the mediaplayer in my taskbar and all a sudden my active programs aren't shown anymore.
I recently uninstalled a bunch of unused programs from my Win XP and I may have uninstalled some thing. Now the DVD does not play anymore and I get the error message "The file does not have a program assocaited with it to perform this action." each time I try to play a DVD.I have gone to the "Device Manager" to check for the DVD driver. It is still there and working fine. I even unistalled the driver and rebooted my computer. This did not help.

I somehow ended up in a place that showed Administrative Privileges and I noticed my son had privileges to change things so I changed it so he couldn't. Problem is now I can't now do anything. It says I don't have administrative privileges anymore. I can't even change the time on the clock.
