Windows Blocking Files Downloaded Via Messenger
Aug 8, 2005My computer seems to be blocking and locking away files that i download via
msn messenger. Is there any way i can turn this frustrating feature off?

Messenger Tries To Load / All Programmed Have Windows Messenger Icon / RPC Server Not Available
Oct 1, 2007I am running Windows XP on a HP Pavilion ze2000.I think I have a problem with Windows Live Messenger. Actually, I think I have several problems:
1. Messenger tries to load in my tray when I start the computer. It never did this before. It also does the same when I connect to my broadband via dialler. At the moment I am denying access through Zone Alarm. Is this normal?
2. In All Programmes I have a Windows Messenger Icon and a Windows Live Messenger Icon. Again, is this normal? There is only an option to remove Live Messenger in Add or Remove Programmes.
3. There is a "1 contact pending" message above the contact list in my Live Messenger, which leads to a "page not available" message when I click on it.
3. When I close Live Messenger, I get multiple "RPC Server Not Available" warnings which I keep closing but keep reappearing. They appear too fast for me to close them, so I have to restart my machine.

Jul 17, 2005I would like to un-install Windows Messenger.I have never in all these years used it and it's more of an annoyance than anything else.Looking around on my computer I don't see how I can un-install it.

I am on my comp. and all of a sudden it will say "you have signed in on another comp." LOL. He removed windows msger in add/remove windows components, regedit/run, startup, and still comes up.

Feb 5, 2009I have been receiving emails from my contacts saying they are getting links to porn sites from my computer as 'instant messages'. I know it isn't me and the program hasn't been used/opened for weeks.Googled around and found this is not uncommon but cannot find any real answers as to how to stop this. Oct 7, 2010I just Installed XP SP2 on a Gateway ESX 500s. The installation seemed to go well, the OS installed all the drivers except the usual (sound and network card). My next step was to download updates from MS windows updates. That is when something odd happened, I clicked on IE icon it opened up and said page could not be loaded (MSN default). I am using a wireless network and can access Windows up date from my HP computer with no problem. On the Gateway I can go to other sights except microsoft.

finished I can't see it in that folder. Actually I can see hidden files

Can't Run Downloaded Files
Apr 9, 2006Since upgrading my computer and reinstalling Windows XP Home with all upgrades, I haven't been able to run executable downloaded files (most recently openoffice but also Google Earth Pro trial). The files download properly but when I try to run them them, I get the message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I'm using IE beta 7 but have tried the same process using Firefox. All Windows Updates are complete. Running Norton AV 2003 and NVidia firewall set to Antihacking only.
Downloaded Files Not Found
Jun 11, 2006When I download files using ie the download window indicates the files are downloaded but they are not there. I've been able to see the files being deleted instantaneously after being downloaded.

May 11, 2007When I try to download a file from the Internet, I get a box sasying "Run/Open", "Save", and "Cancel" as always. When I click on either of the first two options, however, the box simply clicks and unclicks with no actions following it. Almost as if you click "Post" in a forum, but you hold the click on it and move the cursor elsewhere, stopping the system from performing that action. On some days, I can get my system to download about 5 files before I can no longer click "Save" or "Open".

Oct 28, 2008I run Firefox 3.0.3 under Windows XP SP2 Home.
I have downloaded, a new batch of .jpg files from a trustworthy site that I have been using without any problem for a couple of years. With the latest batch of files I find that whenever I try to open any one with PaintShop Pro, I get an Open File - Security Warning asking me if I really want to open it from an unknown publisher.
If I check the file's properties, I find it is blocked. I can unblock each file individually, either by changing the property or by checking an option on the Security Warning.
I can see no reason for this happening suddenly. I have found various possible solutions proposed (but for slightly different environments or file-types), but they do not work for me. Is there any really proven solution for either preventing the blocking in the first place or removing the block en block?

These are some messages I get for various reasons. 'It does not look like your system is configured to properly view this file. You can continue but the file you are trying to view may look "wrong". For version PSP 7, you need MSVCRT10.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL loaded in both Windows and Windows/Systems Directories. This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. a lot of files for my PSP program. I have notices in properties it is
saying the file is blocked and I can unblock by clicking etc.

Delay In Saving Downloaded Files
Apr 5, 2006When online, all downloaded files I save take almost exactly 30 seconds to save to their location. Download speed is normal, the files are already downloaded. The only problem is the delay in saving. This happened all of a sudden. No new programs were added or settings changed. File size has no bearing - 2KB takes the same time to save as 200KB. Same delay for saving photos, html pages & images saved by a screen capture program.
Offline all graphics capabilities & copying is normal. System is clean, no virus, spyware etc.
HD is de-fragged, page file is de-fragged, all temp files emptied. Has happened before & a re-installation of XP fixes it, but I'd like to find out what's causing it?
Can't Open Downloaded Files...only Save Them
Jan 19, 2008I have Windows XP. When I download a file (WP, pdf, etc.), and it asks me to open or save it, it will only let me save it. If I try to open it, it seems to download, but then the relevant application never opens, and I get a message that I may not have the appropriate permission. So I have to save it, then open the application myself, then open the saved file.

Can't Delete Downloaded Game Files
Oct 3, 2010I downloaded some computer game files and now I am sorry and want to delete them but can't find the files that support them. The shortcut icons appear only on the fifth line of the Mozilla and I.E. browzer home pages. The address line shows the files at http://retrogamer.iwon.com/home.jhtml?tbdd=9197. The files do not appear under C: anywhere and the search function and Control Panel add/remove can't locate them either.

Aug 30, 2007I'm working on a Compaq desktop system and have run into something that has me stumped. The system is XP Home-SP2 with all patches, etc .It's my understanding that ActiveX controls such as Shockwave, Java, QuickTime, Ewido, etc show up in c:windowsdownloaded program files. (That's also where they appear on my HP laptop, and there's a status column that shows "installed") On the desktop system however, there are no activex controls in c:windowsdownloaded program files.....and no "status" column. Instead, there's a folder called "Conflict.1" and a bunch of *.dll and *.inf files. The desktop does have Shockwave, Ewido, Java, etc. installed though.
The system belongs to a friend and when I received the desktop, there was no AV or anti-malware software on it. It had a host of both; however, I have cleaned it.
Does this seem odd to anyone but me? Any ideas?
