I just bought a new laptop and, go figure one of the very first things I do not have written down is the wireless network security key.I have WEP in the setting in windows XP. How can I VIEW my key?I have a dsl router, a wireless printer, and I dont want to reconfigure everything from scratch.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2 pc network i had this page cannot be displayed coming up on both pc's when I tried to go online I managed to get online on one pc by switching every thing off and turning back on in the following sequence pc1 pc2 cable modem router box this has done it for me in the past but this time I only got 1 pc back on line. I've spoken to my isp but they say they dont support networks and as I have one pc online thats there job done.So its my problem now can anyone help.I have long since lost my router cardboard box but on my plastic box it says 4 port 10/100mbps ethernet broadband router and the router make is mentor.

i have a network at home, with two wired pcs and a wireless laptop connected to the network. we all had the internet until i went onto a website on my computer (one of the wired ones) whereupon loads of popups came up. it took me a couple of minutes to close all of the popups, and when i returned to the desktop, the wallpaper had been replaced by an internet shortcut to a site advertising a spyware blocker. i then found out how to remove it in the desktop settings box. that was fine, except i couldnt get onto the internet afterwards, and programs such as msn messenger and half life 2's steam did not log on either. however, the other wired and wireless computers could still access the net etc................

View 3 Replies View RelatedSometimes, on one computer with XP Pro SP2, when characters on keyboard are input like the backslash, colon, brackets, etc, totally different characters are input.By restarting the computer, this issue is corrected, but it keeps happening every couple of days. This is a fresh install of XP and a new computer. The computer does not have any other language settings other than English Canada.Could it be something the user is inadvertently pressing or setting?

I found that my XP (English version) is not able to put non-English characters in correct order, so that my Thai dictionary doesn't work properly.Here are some details.In Thai language, some vowels are on the left side of consonant, but when ordering those words with vowels on the left side, we don't consider the vowel is the first character, but XP does. I need to introduce 3 Thai characters in order to illustrate this problem more clearly.is the first consonant in Thai language, ข is the second, ไ is a vowel which is on the left side of consonant, such as ไก and ไข. Now we put these 2 consonants and 2 words in proper order,In the shop where I bought that dictionary, it works pretty well, but I didn't notice what system is was.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have kind of an odd/tough question. I have a font with several characters that are encoded only in Unicode...I think. When I open up Character Map, I can see the characters there and it of course gives me the Unicode numbers for it. These characters have no corresponding keyboard key or Alt code. They appear to be solely Unicode. Normally, in such a case, in the Character Map I can hit Select and Copy and then paste the character in whatever text program I want. For some reason though, I can't with these characters. I don't know if the font is damaged or what.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with accented characters. When I write myself, If I use Times New Roman all accented characters will be changed to some strange symbol. Even if I change the character with the dictionary program, it will automatically change back to the strange symbols. This problem I have overcome, by using ARIAL. The real problem is, that the e-mail I receive in aforeign language, it has the same strange characters. I have also installed on Oxford English-Spanish dictionary. Even the writing on this dictionary gets changed from the original characters. This is an example (Desesperaciçn) the o gets changed into a ç. Or an è gets also changed into ç. If I log into a non English WWW site, even on those pages it will change the accented characters to some strange simbols.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Spanish in a program, and it says I should be able to type CTRL+SHIFT+a to get the a with an accent, and various other shourtcuts. None of these work. In fact, the only way I can get a Spanish character to appear is by using the ascii codes (ALT+0241 for the Spanish ñ, etc) I can find some characters if I hit the ALT+SHIFT combo -- just not all the characters, and then I can't use certain keys (like the = sign becomes an upside-down question mark ¿ why the special keyboard mappings would not work?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSorry if this is a repeat. My Toshiba Satellite M45 running Win XP Home, SP2 is caught in a boot-up loop. It shows the Toshiba splash screen, the "Windows is starting up" screen, then flashes a blue screen with white characters (too fast for me to make out any detail), then the "Windows didn't startup properly" (I forget the precise wording) screen, with the choices of Safe Mode, etc. I've tried every option on the list, but it still fails, returning to the Boot Options screen. Mea Culpa: I haven't done a backup in quite some time, so I'm anxious about the data on the hard drive.

I want this so I can set Permissions, etc. I have it on my other PC set up the same way but for some reason I don't on this new install.

I haven't been to this site for a while and I noticed I'm getting Security Warnings that my security settings has blocked of an ActiveX install. I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile playing a game I hit some buttons on accident and the display shrunk. Now the monsters are small, and so is everything else outside of the game I have no idea what I did, I checked the Screen Resolution and it seems fine, and I also checked my monitor settings, which is fine.
The monitor started showing graphic distortion. I ordered a new monitor but had the same distortion on it. I updated the ATI drivers but it did not solve the problem. In trying to trouble shoot the problem following directions on the ATI website, I changed all the graphic settings to the lowest and slowest available. This got rid of the distortion but the settings need to go! Now I cannot open the display settings.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAll my text/font display settings seem to have changed. I downloaded a freeware program today called avi2dvd, to convert avi video files to iso files for burning to DVD. I tried it out, got frustrated with it, and uninstalled it. After I uninstalled it, I went to check my email. That's when I first noticed that all the text in my yahoo email account had changed - it seemed smaller, like it was at a lower resolution.
I clicked on a few more pages and it was the same for all of them - the text was just not as...smooth. Not as readable. And definitely smaller. It's not just a font size thing, I'm not that much of a newbie, I tried enlarging the font and it's definitely a resolution thing, not just a font or size issue. Then I tried out some other programs, and found out that the problem was system-wide. I use a writing program called Final Draft, and the text in that is also less readable.I found one program that hadn't been affected: IE all my web pages display fine in Explorer.
my mom installed a virus the other day on accident. (Some program called Dr. Spy Shreddar, or something like that.) I deleted it, but some stuff was weird with the computer. I tried restarting the system to get the old configuration back, but the virus just installed itself again. I removed it again, using instructions from Systematic Antivirus and now it's really gone. Some of the settings were still weird though. So after hours of searching the help topics on Microsoft I managed to fix 1 & 1/2 of the problems I had/have.
For one of the problems they made me go into the registry and set something to the value of 0 in order to get the desktop tab back in the Display Properties box. (You know when you right click on the desktop and select properties.) That's all fine and dandy, but here's the other 1/2 of my problem: I can't access some of the features in the tab. (I have Windows XP Professional, by the way.) I can't click inside of the background list and it's shaded a sort of brownish beige color. I also can't browse and do anything with the position setting. I can however access the customize desktop and color features
I was installing security cables for the computer stations. when I finished and rebooted the computers(had to disconnect power and other cords to run the security cables) one of them had a display problem.
it seems that the display area has been reduced. the functional area of the screen is maybe 60% of what it should be. in this area it is complete with the full desktop able to be accessed and nothing is missing. but the right 20% of the screen is solid black (cursor stops at the boundary) and the bottom 20% of the screen(that's not black) is displaying a second image of the top 20% of my desktop. (cursor also stops at this boundary.)
I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.
