Video Driver Lost/Screen Blank
Sep 5, 2008
Video driver not working, blank screen after Windows logo.
OS Windows XP-1 upgraded to XP-2.
Lost my video driver, on my older HP 951 computer.
It came with XP-1, I upgraded a long time ago.
I tried to recover with both the XP-1 & XP-2 disks, won't work.
I have net access, obviously on a newer computer.
Is there a way I can download a driver and install it on my 951, OR recover the driver, that must be there?
It boots up, but after showing the Windows "Logo Screen", it's black. I just have some old info. and files on it, I really would like to keep.

Right clicking on any video file causes the screen to blank/black for a portion of a second, but when it comes back the correct menu is open from the right click. Everything works perfect on the PC, but this bugs me to no end.
XP Pro
Biostar Tforce
AMD Opty 165
1.5 gb DDR PC400
Samsung 160gb SATA
I'm also using this KVM switch
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817107407
Come to think of it, the blank/black screen I'm talking about looks exactly like when I switch between PC's using the KVM. But only one of the PCs has this quirk.

Currently I have only 16 colors and 800x600 desktop area. NT is using the "Default Monitor" and I did not boot in VGA mode. My video card is AccelGraphics Venus DGX4 Rev 2.1A . I tried to find a driver and what I did find was for Win98. I tried that and it started asking for files - vbrun300.dll and I could find that, then it asked for threed.vbx - is this going to work even if I get all the required files? Is there a NT driver for this video card?

I get a little pop-up message you know. install latest windows xp updates so i'm like. OK i'l just get this over and done with. I turn the computer off let windows do it's thing, turn it back on now I'm getting dots on the screen. They look like little droplets and most of the time they're blue. i get to the windows xp log-in screen now this is the "fun" (annoying/main part). WHENEVER I move my mouse cursor over the account tabs the computer just freeze's then the screen goes black, doesn't do anything after that. So I gave my friend a call who's a computer technician, he said that my video card is blown and that I will have to get a new one. My heart just dropped out of my but there for about 5 minutes. I gave my brother a call and he thinks otherwise. He said to do a system restore but this is another "fun" (annoying/main part). I'm trying to do a system restore on the PC (in safe mode) and it doesn't want to seem to work. First of all there are NO bold dates to choose from which is very strange as I applied a Windows XP update shortly before I did this update that screwed the PC up. And nothing came up, and another even f'd up thing is that I can' choose what months to go from. That little arrow that let's go go to previous months and months after? Click that, doesn't do anything. So I gotta wait for my bro to come back from Canberra for the meantime which should be i n around a weeks time or so. But ugh I can't wait that long i'm gonna die of boredom here. So I am begging all.. of you. from the bottom of my heart, is there ANYTHING absolutely ANYTHING I could do to FIX this? I'm so close to throwing this thing out the window Badluck seems to be coming from all sides at me lately and I really can't put up with this.

I recently upgraded to XP from 98SE and as a result have no sound. Also when I play video files either through Windows Media Player or Real Player, the video stalls to a still frame for a couple of seconds and then moves on and then stalls again. It doesn't correspond with the time line. Can someone please provide me with a method to fix these two issues?

I recently had to reformat my PC and now I need to reinstall my video card and sound card drivers. The only problem is, I don't have the driver CD anymore. when I try to find out what my video/sound cards are I draw a blank because they don't seem to be displayed anywhere (display properties/settings/advanced/adapter). All adapter type and adapter information are all I know my video card is ATI but that's all I know and as for the sound card - I haven't a clue what make that is. I've been on the ATI website but there are so many drivers I don't know which one to download/install.

This is a onboard video. When I use add new hdw, and add new dev, have disk, I see the options for trident drivers. When I select any of them, Windoze complains it can't find the auto settings and will not install. I am doing wrong, other than using 2K does any one have the drivers for a soundmax

This tweak is used prevent windows XP from using mirror Video driver when accesing some program.1.Some program or games like Ghost Recon, use alternate Video driver when it can't recognise the Primary Video card driver.2.Alternate driver lack AGP support and performance. So this tweak will prevent window XP from using this alternate driver whenever it was called for.3.Some bug may appear when using the primary Video driverHere's how to do it:-Run Regedit.-Go to. --> "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM CurrentControlSetControlVideo"-There will be 4 'display device GUID' key.-Expand all 4 key.-Open the 'subkey' labelled "000" -Change any 'DWORD' value labelled "MirrorDriver" from '1' to '0'.-Close regedit, restart.4. My graphic card is soo slow (SiS based graphiccard) so, if my AGP texturing capabilities disabled, my computer will go soo slow.5. I use a program named "POWERSTRIP" to determine my AGP capabilities (and to overclockmy Graphic Card).

This is a bit weird and I have a feeling it's something that will have to be adjusted in the registry...
I have my My Documents on my physical second D: drive while all my programs and the OS are on the C: drive. In the My Documents folder is the My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns icons for and doesn't allow you to change the look of them.
I had been backing up this internal 60GB D:My Documents to an external 120GB USB drive. I decided to put the external one into the computer because I bought another external 160GB drive for backup.
OK, everything is fine, but the icons for My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns are no more, they are just plain looking folders, but I can't customize them because these are the special folders that XP assigns for their specific use.
Does any one know what might have happened? Is it possible that the different serial number of the drive, or something else may have messed things up?

When cleaning up a Dell 8200 we apparently deleted a need driver? I have tried to use Dell's support to build a flash enabled floppy with the downloaded driver on it. This failed. Without the drive I can not reload windows xp home to correct the problem. Any suggestions would be helpful. System restore has not helped either.

HP Pavilion 6870us laptop. As you can research, this computer came with an nVidia GeForce 8400gs graphics card to accompany Windows Vista. (Ick) I don't say that from a very valid standpoint, for I just find XP much lighter and easier to navigate. Like I'm running the computer, not the other way around. Well, I used the Vista installed partitioner to segregate a little chunk of my hard drive so that I could put XP onto the computer as well as Vista. While this was successful, I'm having a miserable time trying to find a driver for this video card. I've tried installing the Vista version, but it starts screaming that I'm retarded and that it's only for Vista (naturally). I know most of the drivers that were used in the Vista format work for XP as well.

I had a .dll file disappear due to the loading of a new video driver. I have googled it and downloaded it, but I don't know where to place it within my windows directory tree in order to solve the problem. I have tried to place it in the windows root directory, the windows/system directory, and the windows/system32 directory, all to no avail.
The .dll file is MSVCP71.DLL.Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I was updating a video driver, then restarted my computer. It takes a LONG time to boot up, then flashes an error message on the screen for a second, then restarts. I've tried holding down F8 to startup in safe mode, but it doesn't respond. Also, even when I have the win xp CD in while rebooting to try to repair the OS (yes, the CD drive is the 1st boot device), it won't recognize the CD either. I'm in a heap of trouble without my computer;

I have the XP Auto Update feature set to notify me of available updates but not to download or install. After installing the latest driver, the 93.71 version I'm getting the Notification Icon on the task bar telling me an update for the Nvidia Card is available, version 52.16, I guess the basic update that was downloaded as part of the SP3 update. Is there a way to dismiss this update so that it doesn't continue to appear? For some reason the auto update doesn't recognize there is a newer driver available, the WHQL 93.71.

My wallpaper has disappeared even though it appears under display properities-themes. Under the desktop tab my wallpaper is set correctly. When I try to change the theme from modified theme to windows classic the change is not accepted. My screensaver was the picture slideshow and is now windows xp moves across the screen as the screensaver. When I try to change it back the change is not accepted.
This all started because I am trying to back up my computer to an external hard drive and keep getting error message "windows delay write failed". I tried updating the hard disk driver but there wasn't any update. While searching for fixes for that problem, I came across Panda Software online virus checker. I used it and it deleted a few viruses. They were all old, some may have only been unopened email attachments and they were all from 2001 and 2002. Two days later, I was using logmein - remote access and while rebooting (not the first reboot) I got the blue screen. Here's the error message.
Driver_IRQL_not _less_or_equal
stop:0x000000D1 (0x502F1F70, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0XF398B203)
VSDATANT.SYS - address F398B203 base at F3966000, Datestamp 4313a6c6
So I looked up vsdatant.sys which is located in system32 directory, and I changed the name of the driver to vsdatant.old but then my zonealarm stopped working so I changed it back.
How do I get my display working properly? Any ideas on the "write failed" error message?

Windows XP and recently had to reinstall due to failures. Yesterday, I clicked on the volume control icon and it said it couldn't do anything because we didn't have an audio driver! It just worked the day before! Then the icon disappeared. The audio is gray in the sound control panel, so we can't do a thing. We have the Windows XP CD, but I don't want to mess with anything, especially after having it reinstalled a short while ago. Is there a place I can download a new driver for this system?
