For the last couple of months now, I've noticed that my system, which has operated flawlessly for almost 2 years, started doing strange things: SystemSuite 6 Pro - Uninstall goes thru the process of creating the uninstall database, resolves the links, then abruptly closes SS6. Ad-aware SE - used to run thru the first 45,000 files rapidly, and never spent any appreciable time with the file counter not moving. Now it gets to only 12-1500 files and the HD starts chruning and won't stop; have to kill the program with task manager.Word or Outlook Express - frequent intervals where I'm typing, but letters don't appear on screen until after a 10-15 sec. interlude like something is running and taking the full resources of the CPU.
I'm working through an ASP.NET tutorial in which the datasource is to be an Access .mdb (the famous Northwind db, to be precise). I'm instructed to configure the permissions the folder in which the northwind.mdb file is supposed to reside. The tutorial instructs me to browse to that folder, and right-click it and select "properties" and select the "security" tab-- but i don't have a Security tab. My user account is an administrator account, but just to test it, i logged is a "Administrator", but there was no change. Why do my folder properties not show a Security tab, and how do i change it so they do?
Back about three weeks ago, in an effort to speed up my start-up on my computer, I ran Cleaner. It identified all the start up things. I went through one by one and disabled those that I had checked on a registry database. Unfortunately one of the first I disable was USERINIT.EXE.Now, as some of you may know, I can't login to my computer! I can power on, and try to log in, the windows attempts to load my preferences, and then logs out. Over the past several weeks, I have tried in vain to get some helpful suggestions on how to remedy the situation, but obviously my range of knowledge in dealing with this type of problem isn't strong enough to figure it all out. It was suggested by a friend that I just do a ffr, but quite frankly, I see that as a last ditch effort. I have files on the computer, that I really don't want to lose. And it seems that as I know what the problem is....there must be someway to fix it without going to the extreme. As my computer is 3-4 yrs old, my windows CD was only for SP1, and I don't think that would help....although I don't really know.
I would like to make a dynamic inventory of all of the programs installed on a number of computers...Basically I want to be able to open up a database, click on the computername, and it will tell me what programs are installed on that computer...maybe the database could be updated every night or something...This will save me a lot of bookkeeping and also help me to know which systems have old versions of applications, make it easier for licence expiration and new license keys
I had to hit the ole restore button and my computer bought me back to the beginning ( XPsp1). When I try to install SP2 I keep getting :" Unable to read or write to database" And then it said:" Service pack 2 did not complete" I also check the Microsoft website and i said I was getting a error code: 0x800710D9
Access 97 and Access 2003 installed on his machine. If a scheduled task is set to open an access database at a certain time, it will do so using whatever version of access was last opened. Is there a way to force it to always use one or the other?
Check it out, this website has over 16306 startup items listed in it's database and gives you in depth details about each file and if it is needed or not. I feel it's a valuable resource for the moderators and any user here at techguy.org. It also has a lot of other useful information as well. BTW, this is not advertisement. Just a reference guide for anyone here who wishes to continue their education with helping each other.
Each of my records has a person from a school. Each school from 1 to 9 people, thus from 1 to 9 records. I can sort by school name and manually check all the people from one school but I would like to automate the selection.I want to know how to create my master form so that I list each person from one school on one page, then automate the switch to a new list on a new page each time the school name changes.
Every time I try to install SP2 either from microsoft's web site or from a copy of the actual file, i get an error message that reads "cannot read or write to the database" and the install stops. It will go through everything except installing the program (i.e. check my key, check the system, backup files etc). What would cause this and how might I fix it? I'm running XP Pro.
I recently experimented with the desktop alternatives and ended up with larger than wanted Links bar icons. How can I reduce the size of these icons? Nothing I've reversed has helped. Thanks, Bob
This is so strange. For some reason I can't click on any link sent to me in an email (I use Outlook Express) or in a messenger program like MSN or Yahoo Messenger. it seems to be any link that would open a new window when clicked on.It was working fine this morning, but now I can't, even though I've restarted several times. All I've done on my PC today is remove a bit of spyware with X-Cleaner, and installed Windows Media Player 10. I've tried doing a System Restore back to this morning but it's had no effect. Does anyone have any ideas why this is?I'm on a laptop with a touchpad, but everything else is working fine.
Since most of us recommend that you keep your drivers up to date I thought a list of links to the driver update pages for manufacturers would be good. Here is a list for starters, I will be adding on as time goes on.
I'm running XP Pro, and just did a clean reinstall. I've been using AVG free for years, but this time it's preventing me from using the links in my emails. I went into AVG, couldn't find anything to correct the problem, so I turned off the email scan.Is there any other good free antivirus programs that won't muck up my computer?
I run Windows XP Prof ? Service Pack 2. Lately, clicking video or sound links on websites, or often simply just going to sites that contain such links, I?m getting the following message:?Internet Explorer (or sometimes ?Windows Media Player") has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience, blah, blah.?AppName: iexplore.exeAppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: wininet.dll ModVer:6.0.2900.2518 Offset: 00078de3I have deleted all temporary internet files and also deleted all files from the Windows Temp. folder;
Well if you're like me, you probably have tried to delete the "Links" folder in your favorites, and then come to find out that when you restart the "Links" folder is still there. Well if you follow these directions you will not have that problem again.1. Start regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerToolbar 2. Locate the string "LinksFolderName", right click on it and select modify and set the value to a blank string. 3. Exit regedit 4. Now delete the Links folder.
Underlined links won't open when clicked on. This has happened before and I can't remember the solution. It is on the Internet that I have this problem.
This isn't a huge problem but I have done nothing different in XP but I have lost the 'click' sound when I follow a link. This is in all programs including Outlook and IE.I have made sure that the volume is up but to no avail.
I had a little play and disabled Flash in an attempt to speed up my page loading. (It seems to have worked.)However, now when I click on a link, I have to do so twice to get the page to load, (new window.)I have run Spyware Blaster and unchecked the kill bit as I was unable to get any links to work, but now I need to click the link twice, (the first time the page only part appears.) Not doubleclick, but actually click the link a second time as the page refuses to fully appear.I even System Restored it earlier, but then I could not get online atall, so rolled it back again.
I started having this problem about 2 hours ago where when I go into my Outlook Express and into my "inbox and start reading my email. Upon reading email some would have a URL underlined and I would put cursor there which turns into a hand and I would click on the url but the browser wouldn't send me nowhere??? Now outside Outlook Express I can click on any url (say google or anything and my browser works just find. By the way, I am using Internet Explorer 6.0.
My search engines will not pull up any links. i have tried many different ones and none of them will work (google, yahoo, ask, etc..) Also everytime I try to shop online, it will not allow me to go any farther than viewing a picture of an item. it will not let me add it to a cart or buy anything.
I went through the problem stated by Joephilippa and my problem of similar kind. To be more specific...... All the related links in the Help and Support are not working. For example: To display system data
1. Open System Information 2. Double-click a category in the category tree, and then click an item to display its information in the details pane.
When I click System Information , nothing happens except that note sigh ( ...) apears repeatedly. Please see the attachment also. I have no idea what went wrong.
Most, but, no all links return we to the windows XP start (desk top) when clicked. This just started after the automatic security download by Microsoft.I am very weak on software fixes. Is there something I can do to correct this problem.
Basically, the links on the left side of Explorer when viewing folders that are content-specific (ie. music folder, pictures folder) don't work at all. For example, in the My Music folder, clicking on "Play All" doesn't work (the cursor goes to an hourglass for a few seconds but WMP doesn't pop up or anything) and it behaves the same for every link on the left side.
in IE, click on favorites and right click on links, propreties, check readonly and hidden.it will never show again in your favorite list Note: Alternatively you can use tweakui (by Allan, forum admin)
Ive got 2 links that i've sent to my desktop. When I click one it opens fine, and when I double click the other, it kills my previous site and opens in that same window.I'm beside myself in trying to find why this is happening. It does not happen on my laptop while using IE6.Just wondering is there some little setting that I am missing?
Internet explorer 6 + recently upgraded to 2000. Simple..click on a link on a web page & it freezes, click right mouse & the link opens however as soon as work with the link its shuts off ie totally. Have re-installed ie6..still does it ..have done the regsvr checks..all ok..still does it.On my add/remove programmes folder there is ie6 + ie Q891781 which i cannot remove ( says invalid INF file)Is this the problem?
I got the info on how to tell my IE quicklaunch icon to always open maximized. That works great. Now, is there a way to make it so anytime I click on a link or hit CTRL-N for new window that I will also get a maximized window?
when i click on an address or link in an e-mail or an open web page i get a little white hand in a red octogon. i know it is something simple but i cant figure it out.
