User acct has admin priviledges in a Win XP system. When trying to run regedit in a Run window I get the following error message:"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."I get the same message when trying to run msconfig.
I cannot open msconfig on my computer! Whenever I type in "msconfig" in the Run box, it says it cannot find it.And whenever I open System Information, it says that I need to start the service "Help and Support", but in the Services, there is no "Help and Support". I use SIW now, but I still wanna know why it won't work.
i cannot access my "regedit" on run,it will alert me "this program has been disable by administrator" and restart automatically..i cannot access"msconfig" on run,it also restart automatically..my folder option also gone.i have hidden file n now i cannot open it anymore because my folder option gone..i already try to find it but still cannot find..what should i do..??i think it was a virus attack because there's one ie file in "My Picture" name "brontok.a[10]" and even i delete it,it will back again to the folder..i already try to remove it using Microsoft & McAfee antispyware,McAfee antivirus,Norton antivirus but still no change.
Everytime I try to run msconfig or registry editor, it pops up for a second and then closes immediately. They open, but close immediately so i get about a 1/2 second look.I restored my system to before this problem started -I'm running Windows XP Pro.
My Taskmanager, msconfig and regedit will not remain open. I realize this is due to a virus or spyware, but i still haven't been able to fix this problem. I had to recently restore my entire computer so i've held back on reinstalling many things. I am also unable to install any windows updates due to an error (without them, im pretty sure im more prone to getting more spyware and viruses).
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. It worked fine up until recently but now it doesn't work anymore.
Well today I suddenly started having problems and you seem to know what your talking about so I thought I'd ask you.I ran a Trend Micro PC-Cillin Scan and it found the worm, WORM_MUGLY.I which I am working on removing. The problem is that part of removing that requires you to open your task manager and view processes which I am not allowed to do. I tried to run regedit but it opened up to an ms dos window which in the title bar said regedit.com. I ran registry cleaner, ad aware, and spybot search and destroy but to no avail.
trying to install ACID7 on HP xw4300 workstation, all of my SONY software stopped working. I am trying to edit the registry to get rid of all references to Sony so that I can re-install the 7 or 8 programs that I used to have.but I get an error message: "Cannot open Sony Creative Software. Error while opening key." I find that a lot of registry entries are doing that to me, but the only ones I care about are the Sony ones. I can't change permissions because I can't open or save changes...Is that enough to be clear
I cannot open my task manager or my control panel, when ever I try to open them, it says that the administrator has deleted it or something like that(not sure, the fact that I have a Japanese computer)?I have looked all around the internet for a solution and I found the REGEDIT option but I cannot open REGEDIT for some reason. Please help. Every thing else works fine but I just need help fixing this problem. Well this is a custom made computer so and I don't know how to open the system information.
In addition, Adobe reader is viewable in administrator profile, but will not open as the local power user. This is a non-networked computer, so everything is installed locally. I went to give the user full control of the Adobe folder, but the Security tab is not available or an option, even in the administrator profile. Rebooted, same issue. Logged in thru PC Anywhere, same issue, for both.
I should say the open for a split second and then disappear. so i click on run and type in msconfig and appear/disappear. same thing when i go to control panel and click system
my compter telling me that im unauthorized to open msconfig as administrator what can i do without having to reload xp is there any thing else i can do?
I have this software called SWF Sound Automation Tool, whenever I uses windows movie maker when I click on audio file, something pops up saying windows want to configure swf sound automation tool, and then it pops up some kind of error saying cannot write value to key etc, and I need to do cancel on the pop up and sometimes it hangs. Then my norton protection will pop up saying it blocks a trojan horse.
I tried to delete the software from control panel-remove software it doesn't work, then I do regedit and delete the entry in the uninstall area, however the control panel area still shows this software but it does not give remove button there anymore. However the problem still exists and hangs my movie maker! And I have no where to delete anything anymore, why this stupid software never goes away!
So I had, or have some sort of virus on my computer and I cannot open msconfig. When I try to open Regedit, it says the administrator disabled it?I'm trying to figure out which programs on startup that are viruses.
Ok so I have this computer.. and I wanted to just kill a few processes running ... but I can't get the task manager up.. so I was going to just take them off the start up list.... but I can't get the MSconfig to say open either.
I used to be able to run MSCONFIG and now I can't. I've tried the Start/Run thing several times. I've downloaded an XP version, and copied it to the WindowsSystem folder and tried it from there too, but I can't even get that to run.
I have a Windows XP Home installation and the main account is set as an administrator account.when we log into this account the command prompt window is displayed, but not with a c prompt and there is nothing we can do to exit it (i.e unable to type exit)
On looking at the startup options in msconfig, which is what's causing the command prompt window to open:
So using the account that is in the administrators group I tried to deselect it but when clicking Ok or Apply I get this message:
Error: An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change the service. You man need to log on using and Administrator account the make the specified changes.
But I am using an Admin account...!?!?
So I tried rebooting into safe mode, then as the 'Official' Admin account to change it but when I login as the Administrator the svchost isn't in the start up options?
There are a couple of other accounts that are just standard accounts and they don't have the svchost on their startup.
I'm able to run MSCONFIG just fine as administrator, but I can't run it as limited user. The message is "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an administrator account".But I'm pretty sure I've previously run MSCONFIG as limited user. Is my memory wrong, or is something wrong?
when ever i start any video application it shows that something has gone wrong and prog is to be closed, and pror closes everything on desktop closes and disappear only to reappear again after some time.
I have an external HDD on which I have backed up 15G of Data. I wish to retrieve some Pictures from this Backup but when I try to open it in order to restore these pictures I cannot find a programme to open it with. I do have Windows NT but can't seem to get it to open with .bkf.
Running a Windows 2000 machine. Machine came with W2k installed 2 years ago. Have all other windows updates installed. Getting this error when trying to install Service Pack 4 - The file c:windowssystem32ftp.exe is open or in use by another application. The taskmanager does not show any FTP specifically running. So I downloaded SP4 to my hard drive so I wouldn't have to get on the internet, and rebooted in safe mode. Then ran SP4 update from my hard drive but I still got the same FTP error. How do I find this FTP process and stop it?
My system was recently infected with a virus i think i have finally gotton rid of it but now im unable to open my c drive thought my computer when i double click it the open with window pops up and when i right click it i get strage symbols where open is suppose to be the virus that i was infected with is W32.Gexin.A its main exe is svsh0st.exe which i seem to have gotton rid of forever now as it hasn't recreated itself this boot up
I can't open my registry. It just started happening. When I go the the stat/run and enter regedit all that opens briefly is a DOS window and then closing within second.
Suddenly my documents folder opens when I log on to my machine. I checked all Startup folders for a shortcut to My Documents but found none. I followed the instructions on kb899865 but everything was as it should have been. I then checked for the trojan spyware.dlder with MalwareBytes Anti Malware and found nothing. Spyware Blaster also found nothing. About the same time I found I was unable to open help and support, when I tried to correct that I continue to get the message that pchdt_w3.cab can not be found. It is not on C or the Windows install disk or SP2 disk. I am really stuck. While it is possible to close the folder after booting it is a pain and I would like to get things operating as they should be. I am running XP Pro. w/sp2.
I am using xp and have a laptop with xp. I use a linksys router for the laptop. I recently switched from DSL to Cable, since the switch there are a few web sites I cannot get to open up. Aafes.com, hotmail.com, support.microsoft.com.....and a few others. Most sites open fine but....I have checked my router, it's fine. I have bypassed it and gone straight from the modem still doesn't work. I have hooked someone elses laptop up to modem and guess what??? They opened them just fine. So I'm back to me. I'm so frustrated and confused. Please any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
After using Dr.Web Cleant it to clean up my xp laptop, it got worst. The laptop loads up but all that i see is the desktop background. No Start bar, not programs on desktop, shortcuts don't work .e. "windows"+R, "windows"+E) ONLY TASK MANAGER OPENS with CRTL+ALT+DEL.
As stated one of our customers has some windows based software (Sage Line 100 and Telemagic to be precise) which is run from a shortcut on the desktop mapped to a network share with the exe located within. whenever you run either of these shortcuts or even if you navigate directly to the file you get the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" the users in question have full local rights and full control over the files on the server inc the exe. As they are part of the USERs group which have full control. The Administrator has no problem in getting this file to run
