Unable To Run MSCONFIG
I used to be able to run MSCONFIG and now I can't. I've tried the Start/Run thing several times. I've downloaded an XP version, and copied it to the WindowsSystem folder and tried it from there too, but I can't even get that to run.

Unable To Run MSCONFIG In Limited User?
I'm able to run MSCONFIG just fine as administrator, but I can't run it as limited user. The message is "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an administrator account".But I'm pretty sure I've previously run MSCONFIG as limited user. Is my memory wrong, or is something wrong?

Unable To Access The "Run" Command From The Start Menu?
I can't access the "Run" command from the start menu. When I click on it windows bring up a message box saying "Windows can not create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?" Even if I click yes, the shortcut doesn't do anything. I can still access the run command by hitting the windows button + r. But it is annoying not having that function when needed... No virii or spyware involved. I believe it's a registry issue, but I've no idea were to correct the issue and I can't find any info on the net[which is a first].

I open the System Configuration Utilility, go to the "Startup" tab, click on a program I no longer wish to run at startup and get an error message stating: "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator Account to make the specified changes".I then click on OK to the error message and then the text box pops up stating the usual "You must restart your computer for some of the changes made by System Configuration to take effect". Msconfig Won't Run At Start
msconfig won't run at start. Windows cannot find msconfig. It's there physically (I had to manually find it - Search won't work either)
I think it's a registry error. I looked where another forum "told me" to look, and I had different entries.

Cannot Use Open With Command In Shell To Open Files
Hi, I am having a weird problem. I cannot change what programs I use by defualt to open windows files. It does not matter whether I right click on a certain file and choose open with or if I use the tools option in the folder menu. This is what happens. I want to open a .jpg file with picassa photo viewer. I right click the .jpg file and choose open with. I then click browse to locate the .exe file that will open it. Well once I click it I get sent back to the open with window and nothing has changed. The .jpg file will not open with any program that can open it and it will not add the .exe file into the window. This is a bit frustrating as I cannot change what opens certain windows files by default. This goes for any type of file I try to open with any program.

Msconfig Refused To Run - Pop3 Server Error
Am helping a friend get her Outlook Express working (pop3 server error), and wanted to go into msconfig to disable all items at startup in order to make sure no firewalls or anti-virus were causing problems. When she typed msconfig in the Run box, she keeps getting a 'word is misspelled try again' error message. Have you ever had this happen? As far as I know there is no other way to open the msconfig utility.

Run Command Completely Gone
I was cleaning virus and spyware from a friends computer, and when all was done, the Run command is now missing not only from the Start menu, but also from the Advance Properties to be able to turn it on and off. I noticed in the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRoamMUICache, the key for Run Command was missing, so I created it ("@shell32.dll,-30483"="Run command" REG_SZ)hoping that would solve it, but still it is missing. I re-ran XP SP2, no luck. I installed the free version of Registry Mechanic, but that didn't fix it (though there were things only the full version would fix). I found a reference to this on the site for Prevx1 saying this occurs when McAfee (which was used) only fixes a particular virus half-way, and that Prevx1 would fix it completely. It didn't.

Unabled To Run Command.exe
When I attempt to run command I get a messagebox titled, "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem". The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.I know you get this when you try to run a 16 bit dos app on XP, but I don't want to do that. I just want to open the command prompt. The only thing I cna think of is that a few weeks back I installed a MS-DOS emulator that didn't work, and then I uninstalled it.
