Temporary Internet Files Folder Oddity

Aug 2, 2007

Windows XP media Center seems to be completely hiding folders from me. When I untick "Hide protected operating system files and folders" then right click properties my Temporary internet file folder, it says there's 71 folders within it. I can't see ANY of these folders in my browser. If I boot up my other OS (Win XP 64 bit) I can view these folders just fine. Furthermore, within media center edition, I can access Temporary Internet FilesContent.IE5 if I type it in manually, and can see 68 folders within.
Now, why would Media center be hiding Content.IE5 when supposedly I have display EVERYTHING turned on? I fear a malicious program may be doing this. An OS reinstall isn't a big deal for me, but I'd rather not.

Click Move folder. Then select the new drive and folder you want to use and click OK to exit the property pages.

Temporary Internet Folder Issue On Desktop

Dec 31, 2006

My Temporary internet folder is out on my desktop as I use it quite frequently. This has been the case for years and it has worked flawlessly. Recently when I open it I get a message, "This page has an unspecified potential security flaw, would you like to continue?". When I click "OK" the Temp folder opens normally. This happens even when the folder is empty. Its annoying to have to keep doing this. My Internet Explorer security settings are quite low, and haven't been changed for ages, well before this message started appearing. I've cleared the caches and index.dat files, run AVG virus checker, SpybotS&D, and all sorts of other cleaning/security stuff but to no avail.

Temporary Internet Files Folder - Index.dat File

Jul 9, 2005

I use Windows Explorer to access the subject folder to make sure Internet Explorer has deleted the cache and usually I could see one file in the Content. IE5 folder named index.dat. I've been doing this for years without any problems. A couple of weeks ago I went to do this and I was unable to see the folder structure below the Temporary Internet Files folder nor the index.dat file. But if I log on as another user I can see the Content.IE5 folder, file index.dat, and the randomly named subfolders beneath folder Content.IE5. I
checked the Windows Explorer properties to see if my view was being restricted but the settings appear to be the same for both user IDs.

Temporary Internet Files Folder Stuck On Desktop

Apr 14, 2010

There is a Temporary Internet Files folder literally STUCK on my desktop. There was another listed under My Documents > When I tried to delete that one, it deleted. So then I tried to move the folder on the desktop to My Documents with no success. "Access Denied", or "In use by another user or program. Close all programs and try again." I tried to "Send" the folder to another location on the computer with no success. Also tried deleting it and cutting and pasting it some where else, that also did not work. Temporary Internet Files folder's properties: General Tab > Attributes: Read only box is checked and grayed out.

Cannot Rename Folder / Access Is Denied

Jul 22, 2010

The rest of the message says "Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use".In Folder:Properties, the file shows as 'Read Only'. Unticking this box followed by the option to do the same for all folders and subfolders, then using 'Apply' was unsuccessful, as when I tried to rename the folder after doing this, the message reappeared, and the folder was again 'Read only'.As Administrator, my understanding is that I have full permissions under the Security section of Properties, which appears to be the case, as all boxes are ticked. The path is as follows:- C:FOLDER:Sub folder 1Sub..1 cannot be renamed. It contains four additional folders, (each with loads of subfolders),of which 3 can be renamed, whilst the fourth one cannot, with the same "Access denied..." message appearing.

Open The Folder Access Is Denied

I wanted to move a folder from one location to another.I cut the folder, went to the desired location and pasted it.When when trying to open the folder it said access was denied.I went to it's properties and unchecked read only, tried to open it again, access is denied.I checked properties again and read only was still checked.I then did a system restore to 2 previous dates. Both resulted in the folder going back to it's original location.I was then able to go into the folder but did not have access to view any file in the folder.

Cant Access Folder - Access Denied

Apr 11, 2006

Files on my second hard drive were shared on the network (level 4, Network users could only read) and primary hard drive was reformatted and Windows XP sp2 was installed.(without the files being unshared) Now when trying to access the files the error "Access Denied" occurs and I cant access or delete the files (would really like to recover the data about four years worth of work taking up about 75% of the hard drive)

I am the Admin, and I can't change any of the folders propertys as I again get the "access denied" error. I've been looking everywhere for a solution to this, this is what I found from MS help (not very helpfull)
A file's permission may differ from the containing folder if one of the following conditions is true:

Access Denied To Docs And Settings Folder For Administrator

Jan 15, 2007

I have a Dell 4600 with with 769MB Ram and Windows XP Pro. My XP boot sequence got corrupted (according to Dell) on my "C" drive. They wanted me to reformat the drive (and lose all my work). Instead I installed XP onto my secondary drive and nenamed it "C", set up a special partition on my secondary drive to receive the old files ("D") and renamed the "bad" drive to "G". Though I can access/copy most files from "G" onto "D", my "Documents and Settings/Administrator" directory on "G" (not password-protected, but contained a lot of files) are all "access-denied". I can't open/view these files on "G" or even copy them to "D". If I try to open them, I get a "files inaccessible, access is denied" msg.

Error - Access Denied When Attempting To Open Private Folder

Jan 26, 2008

I have a new Dell computer with windows xp operating system. My old computer was a gateway with windows xp also. The mother board on the gateway crashed and I could not find a replacement thus I purchased the new dell. I extracted the hard drive from the gateway and installed in an external drive case. All works well and I am able to retreve data from the gate way hard drive with one exception. While the hard drive was installed in the gateway I elected to make some of the folders private, ie right click on folder, click on sharing and security and clicking on private. This worked fine in the gateway but when I installed in external hard drive I am getting an "access denied" error message when trying to open with the Dell.

Downloading Any Program From Internet Ended Up With Access Denied?

May 18, 2005

Lately when I download any type of file whether it be from the internet or from my Sony Cybershot, I am being denied access to whatever I downloaded. Just downloaded pictures and video from my camera to my computer and I moved all 'video' to a folder I called 'our video'. Now that it is there I cannot access it. Just plainly says, " 'our video' is not accessible, access denied". It is not allowing me to move it to another folder as well.

When I tried to play the video before I was getting the access denied thing, media player was saying that it cannot play that type of file. I have NEVER had an issue with playing ANY pics. or video that came from my camera. This has been going on for a few weeks with every video or picture that I add to my computer. After it is downloaded I can't access it. I am running XP professional.

In fact the "Make this folder private" is not checked. If it helps any the drive is an NTFS drive.

Temporary Folder Changes Location

Feb 28, 2008

Windows XP Pro Temporary files, which are usually created in my local temp folder (C:/Documents and Settings/my files/Local Settings/Temp) have suddenly moved location to WINDOWS/Temp. Nothing is created in any users' temp folders, all temp files are now dumped into the WINDOWS/Temp folder.

At the same time, Carbonite stopped working, and I now get error messages that Carbonites Secure Backup Communications Service has failed. Of course, these two may not be related, and Carbonite support are helping me to sort out the problem with their program - but it may be a clue? The only other changes made in the same period this problem with the Temp folder happened was an automatic upgrade of Thunderbird and an upgrade of Adobe Flash Player. Everything else seems to be functioning correctly on my computer. Has anyone an explanation as to why this happened and does it matter?

Remove Fonts From Temporary Folder

I booted up in safe mode and tried to delete them and can't do it that way, either. How do I get rid of this temporary folder?
