System Uses 10 Minute Boot Up / Deleted Unnecessary Items?
Sep 29, 2008
It takes 10 minutes to reboot my computer! 10 minutes later I m cleaning out temp files and cookies and the like, deleting old profiles, cleaning up MSConfig and Defragging AND moving anything that looks important out to his network share.
What I mean is: Microsoft Flight Sim X comes out in a few weeks and I was wondering if there is a way to easily boot up without all unnecessary programs loading, to free up memory for the game itself. And I was hoping this could be set up to be done easily when I wanted to. is there a program maybe that I could download that would do this?
I know that when you have windows 98 and you type msconfig in the run then you click on the tab saying startup you can remove unnecessary things from loading that will only slow down your computer. But on windows 2000 pro when I type msconfig it says it is not there - what do I use to remove unnecessary things from starting up that are not kneeded to run the computer ?And what should stay there and load at startup so the computer has no problems ?
I deleted a few items from Start Menu>Programs that I would like to restore. These items are (1) set program access and defaults (2) windows catalog and (3) windows update. I don't know where the .exe files are for me to copy back into the start menu folder or if there is a easier way to restore them.
I know you all seen this problem before but I've got to try. I have a Compaq, with a 60 gig hard drive, 384 of memory, 1195 Mhz processor and running windows XP. My computer runs like it was at the tops 300 Mhz. I've check for virus and spy ware, deleted unnecessary files, uninstall most of my games, defrag the c drive and defrag my registrey. I even changed my battery. And it still runs slow. Any suggestion on what I can do? I'm about reading to throw it. Also it is constantly freezing up on me. Man I thought XP wasn't to do that. It's worse the the millinum. my programs are constatly not responding.
Can I recover messages I accidentally deleted in Outlook Express of Windows 2000XP? These messages were in their own file but somehow got moved to a subfile of the Deleted Items folder. In trying to removed the Deleted Items folder the sub-folder went with it. There were a large number of messages I had received via e-mail that I intended to keep.
My startup time went up drastically. I have disabled all but two of the automatic startup items using msconfig. My system used to start in less than two minutes, easily. Now it takes a more than a minute or two longer than that. I know what the problem is; the only three items that show in the system tray after startup are: 1) The AVG Antivirus icon . 2) The Spybot SD Resident icon. 3) Local Area Connection (This is the icon which shows two computer monitors with screens that light up and go dark periodically)
Now, after the problem started, the last item, the Local Area Connection icon is the one that doesn't load, for VERY long. So it may be something to do with that. Also, just before the icon finally shows up(after which point the computer is fine to use) I've notice that a Windows security notification icon appears...it flashes, for just a second, and then is replaced by the Local Area Connection icon. For the record, these are the two icons I'm talking about: http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/sw1sh1/LAC.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...tification.jpg
I have had my automatic updates disabled for a while now, so you might think that that's the reason the notification is showing up but I've already disabled that notification using Windows Security Center.
I accidentally deleted a partition and later found out that my system is dead....The only way I recover out of that is I reinstall Windows and then install grub again to recover the Linux partition. But I feel the delete partition is a very rapid process just taking seconds and in that I don't think files would be deleted, so I feel potentially I can recover the deleted partitions including the boot partition. But I don't know how to do it. Also now when the boot partition is deleted and the system is not booting up what should be done to recover the system and data?
In my registry I've noticed porn related entries in: HKEY CURRENT USERsoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrent versioninternet settingszonemapdomains I'm on XP home SP2 and all updates are current. I run 2 anti virus programs, use SpyBot, Adaware, SpywareBlaster & CW Shredder. I've checked for virus's and run ousecall.henever I see anything suspicious I delete with a vengence and my security settings are properly set. I've shutdown the System Restore, deleted everything suspect in the registry manually, run every antispyware, antivirus program I can think of (regularly too). I shut down and restart the PC and everything I've deleted returns. I never find much of anything to report after running all tests, except mru's and an occasional tracker. My PC works fine, my connection is fast and I experience absolutely no problems I'm aware of. Obviously there's something I'm missing or not doing as I don't visit suspect sites. A helping hand here would be much appreciated.
I correct that deleted Recycle Bin files still remain unseen on the hard drive? If so, is there any way of removing the deleted "Recycle Bin" items without affecting anything else on the Hard Disk? My original and now #2 computer has a very small Hard Disk (15 GB). I have cleaned out everything but the OS and installed programs. I would like to remove the one GB of My Documents files I put into the Recycle Bin and then further deleted from there, if indeed they are still resident on the Hard Disk. My intent is to hopefully increase performance of that machine, which also has a very slow processor and only 190 MB RAM. Right now the OS and programs occupy one-half of the Hard Disk. I am running "XP Home" on that computer. I will only use C #2 for reaching the Internet should my #1 computer "go down. (I would be lost without that daily exercise!) C #1 is fully backed up weekly to an external Hard Disk.
This computer is an HP/2.8ghz/512ram/service pack 3 system. It use to run nice, now it boot's slow, slow, slow! It takes 10 minutes to get all the icons loaded, then it works ok. In addition to the slow boot, it also hangs at a black screen, I get around it by pressing F1, then it loads ok. Safe mode loads normally about 2 min.
Every time I startup or restart my computer, my load takes around 20mins ! I have a Compaq Presario V2000. When I power or restart, the screen goes black, everything flashes, then the Compaq screen shows for about a second (guessing is the BIOS because it lets me hit F8 or whatever) but then after that it goes to a black screen with a status bar at the bottom. Slowly the status bar fills up. At around 20 minutes, which the bar is half way, then the computer flashes again and the XP logo shows and loads normally afterwards.
Im having no more problems with XP or anything else except that startup screen. People tell me its the BIOS, others tell me its not recognizing the Hard drive fast enough among other things. My BIOS boot order is basically CD first then HD. I have tried so many things with no success. And its getting to the point that I cant do anything when it comes to updating stuff without having to restart, which takes those 20mins.
My Dell Inspiron B130 Windows Xp SP3 had only one internal hard drive, it was broken up into Drive C and two nameless partions that I did not make I accidentley deleted one of the namless partitions and now my windows XP SP3 laptop is no longer bootable. My computer just says no bootable drive found. I think I deleated some important system data My personal data on Drive C appears to be still there is there any way I can recover the system data or make my laptop bootable again without losing all of my data?
can someone tell me if i need all these process,s running and if not how do i disable them i notice spysweeper is running but i dont use its shields at all i disable them and i have it not too start at atartup but its still running somehow in the process,s
Recently, I accidentally clicked on a few bad google links. Soon after, my computer started acting weirdly. I started receiving windows notices saying that my computer was infected with spyware. I could tell that these were fake and started scanning my computer with avast anti-virus. It was acting weirdly and then I saw that a window popped up called "vista anti-virus" i then googled this and found that this was a fake anti-virus that would install more viruses on my computer. So, I panicked and manually shut down my computer with the power button and booted into safe mode.
My second laptop is beginning to run rather slowly due to the amount of processes running on startup. Just wondering how to stop the ones which are unnecessary?
On my other home desktop, we have begun getting the following message:"This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any usaved changes will be lost. This shut down was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/System Time remaining: 1:00The system process C:Windows/System 32/services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code: -1073741819 the system will now shut down and restart."Then it shuts down.
I have a p4p800-e mobo with realtek ac'97 sound card onboard. A few weeks ago the sound stopped working. I checked the device manager everything looks normal. I tried restoring my computer without success. I reinstalled drivers which did bring my sound back when I restarted but only for a short time (1 min). What can I do to fix this problem?
Seems like every time I open some application it puts a link on the start menu, I realize I can delete this by right clicking it and choosing "remove this item from the list". How do I prevent it from being put there in the first place?
what's happened here is that on a failed attempt at reinstalling XP with a copy (after restart it asks to insert the XP SP2 disc) I went into boot.ini to delete the "windows xp professional setup" option but accidentally removed the actual XP entry instead. Now it gives me no option to start the computer normally, even when going through safe mode, the only option is to start up with the XP Set up. Is it impossible to get into the computer through the OS now, because none of my XP Set Up discs are working as they're all copies, my original is now in another state with my father.
After I log into my computer at my windows login screen, it instantly kicks me back to the login screen. After reading several posts online I have come to believe that my userinit.exe file has been deleted or that virus has somehow altered it. I want to reinstall a copy of the file from a windows xp media boot CD, however I only have a friends recovery disk and it is for his brand of computer so it doesnt recognize it when i boot my system. I dont have a floppy drive, is there any other way to get a dos prompt at start-up so I can manually extract userinit.exe to system32? Should I slave the drive on a different computer and copy and paste it? Windows XP Media Center Edition (SP2)
Does anyone know how to add items to the section of the start menu with all the "MY" folders? I want to add my games and toolbox. I don't want them 'pinned to the start menu' because they will open in a window and I want them in a list, like in the advanced start menu controls. I read somewhere how to do this, but I don't remember where.
I have a ton of program in my system tray (which I've been told means they are running somehow, and presumably using up resources). I'm assuming this might be contributing to the slow speed of my computer. Can anybody tell me how to prevent these programs from starting up whenever I start the computer. Some of them are programs I hardly ever use and I'm sure I could find them to open them if I ever need them. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional.
some time ago i reinstalled windows xp , but made a mess of it, now when i start up i have microsoft windows xp microsoft windows xp microsoft windows xp setup which means i have to watch ,then press the middle one ,which is the one i use,if i dont press the middle one quick enough it goes to setup can someone tell me how to delete the other two,in easy to understand lanquage
On my work pc (XP Pro) when I drag an item from my desktop to "My Documents" the item is moved. On my home pc (XP Home) if I do the same thing, the item is copied to "My Document" and I then have to delete the original left on my desktop. What do I need to do so that I can "Move" items into My folders instead of copying them?
Alright so I am trying to take ownership of a folder on my old hard drive but I kept getting access denied. So I need to boot up into safe mode to access the security tab to take control of the folder this is because I have xp home. But when I try to boot into safe mode this long list comes upmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWSSystem32Driversfltmgr.sysmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2 WINDOWSSystem32Driversdisk.sysmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2 WINDOWSSystem32Driverssr.sysmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWSSystem32Driversmup.sysmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2 WINDOWSSystem32Driverspxhelp20.sys There are like 30items in the list those were just a few. All of the items were located in drivers and were sys files
How do you determine what the items are that are listed in the Sys Config Utility (msconfig.exe), startup tab? My system has a few listed that only have a registry entry listed in the Location column--the other two columns are blank. I'd like to know what they are.
