KVM Switch Controlling Wireless Keyboard?
Dec 18, 2006I have two computers running side by side. They both run Win XP, one Home and one Pro. I'm using two monitors but I want to be able to use the same keyboard and mouse for both computers. My question is if I use a KVM switch that supports USB would it be compatible with my wirelss mouse and wireless keyboard that both have USB interfaces? Also, any recommendations for a good KVM switch? I would like one that also gives me the option to share my speakers.

Aug 1, 2005I installed Spanish in a program, and it says I should be able to type CTRL+SHIFT+a to get the a with an accent, and various other shourtcuts. None of these work. In fact, the only way I can get a Spanish character to appear is by using the ascii codes (ALT+0241 for the Spanish ñ, etc) I can find some characters if I hit the ALT+SHIFT combo -- just not all the characters, and then I can't use certain keys (like the = sign becomes an upside-down question mark ¿ why the special keyboard mappings would not work?

Jan 30, 2005I have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,

May 10, 2008I just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.

Mar 3, 2005My friends keyboard is not working. When she turns the computer on no lights come up on the keyboard. Have tried another keyboard and still the same. Unable to get into the computer to check bios etc as there is a password on the account.

May 7, 2010im running windows xp home edition sp3. while shutting down, my kid switched the pc off by the main switch. im getting a loop of starting up over and over and iv tried every option in advanced, ssafe mode etc, i just keep getting this loop of starting again and again. i got the bsod with unmountabe boot volume and a code, went to microsoft and the code cannot be found, i retyped it 3 times to make sure id typed it right and got error code not found. im using a netbook to find a resolution and i dont have any connectors to my pc. i havnt installed any new hardware or software and my gut is telling me that its because of the pc being swithced off by the mains during shutdown because i had no problems untill this happened. if i cant get my pc to switch on, how do i sort it out. my windows disc wont work.

May 5, 2009i right click on taskbar toolbar language bar. I uncheck it and disappers on the taskbar. And the trillion dollar software puts it back in few minutes.

Tried again and got a high pitched continuos beep from it so turned it off/on again, nothing. Pressed F8 to try start it up in safe mode but it wont do that either. Aug 11, 2008Yesterday he was trying to copy a DVD. As far as I understand (which is limited), it froze and he turned it off. When you try to switch it on, you get a black screen with a white message. the jist of it says that Windows shut down and that to restart it you need to choose a mode - it gives you options 'safe mode' 'last known settings that worked' 'normal mode' etc. We have tried all of these modes. the most successful of which always looks really promising - you get the blue windows screen, logo and jingle it looks like it is starting up but then dies and the screen goes black. When you turn it on you get the black screen again and go around in circles.

Feb 20, 2005For some reason, if I log on to my account (an administrator account), then log off, none of the other users (my husband's admin. account or the kids' limited user accts) can be signed on. XP sits on the welcome screen for an unusually long time, then goes to just the user's wallpaper screen (no icons, no taskbar, nothing). Can't pull up task manager or warm boot, have to shut down & restart. I can log on any of the other accounts, and log off, and switch to mine, but not vice versa. Even if I don't do ANYTHING after signing on. So, the problems seems to be with my account settings somehow.

I hope someone maybe able to come up with something.I have XP Professional installed. On Control Panel/Regional & Language Options/Languages/Details/Advanced the "turn off advanced text services" always seems to get rechecked. Even if you uncheck it the language bar on the task bar does not appear (even though it is ticked on Taskbar/right-click/Toolbars). If the Language bar option becomes available on Control Panel/Regional & Language Options/Languages/Details/Settings, when you open it all the Language Bar Settings are greyed out.

Jan 3, 2008Windows XP-P. Suddenly the language task bar disappeared. I tried all options in regional language setting, not succesful. I have unchecked the "Turn off advanced text services", and clicked "apply", and then goto Preferences>Language Bar, but all Options are greyed out, I can't click any one of the 4 options. And when go back to the Advanced setting, the "Turn off advanced text services" went back to checked position.

Dec 20, 2004Not a serious problem, just an annoyance. One day, I started my computer, and the Language Bar was activated on my tool-bar. I turned it off, but then next time I restarted my computer, it was there again. Basically, any time that I restart my computer, I have to close the language bar.

There is suppose to be the language bar between (3) and (4) but I tried pushing it into place (apperently I push too much) that it disappeared. From experience I know that all I need to do is restart my computer and all will be well. Dec 3, 2006I'm trying to play Diablo II: LoD, which requires that the LoD expansion CD be in my CDROM drive. I mounted an image of the disc with Daemon such that it's in (virtual) Drive E: (normal CDROM drive is D:[b][/b]). But the game seems to only be checking my D: Drive for the disc, and it won't let me point to the E: Drive.
Is there a way to just switch the drive letters around, and if so, do you think this would even solve my problem? Perhaps there's a way I can just set E: as my default CDROM drive, so that the game would check there?

Aug 12, 2008I installed XP SP3 last night, and all was seeming pretty ok, surprisingly.But I've discovered that I can no longer switch between users. When I try to switch, the system freezes as it is loading the desktop for the second user and all I can do is reboot to get out of it. infuriating! There's no problem at all if I log out of my user account, and my wife then logs into hers. but they just won't run at the same time as they used to. I've tried checking to see if Terminal Services and RPC are running in the services list, and both are, so it's not that.

Something has happened, and now I actually have to close everything on one user's side and log the user off to be able to get to my user account.
