Streaming Video Choppy Playback, Older CPU To Blame?

any hulu/Internet/etc. streaming content type videos, even on the lowest hd setting (288p, for ex.) just ends up being choppy, worst in full screen. here are my specs:
amd athlon xp 2600+ cpu
1.0 gig of ram
pny geforce fx5200 256 mb pci graphics card
windows xp home ed. w/sp3
160 gb hd
an older computer with an older processor, and if anything, it's probably the cpu that is preventing me from having normal playback with streaming content. i had a laptop with a core duo processor that worked fine with this type of video, but i fried it so i am stuck with this for now. haven't used this pc in a few years so now i am noticing it's limitations as far as this stuff goes. if anyone has had any luck with an older machine getting relatively normal playback with these streams. i have tried reducing hardware acceleration, drivers are fully updated for graphics card, hard drive is formatted so no viri are causing this, reinstalling flash, changing settings on monitor, and playback is the same.

When I try to play video files the video will pause for a split second every few seconds and I don't know what the problem is. In fact my computer is running much slower than normal lately. I've gotton rid of unused programs, I've run SpyBot, and I've updated my video drivers.
My Windows Media player 10 is trying to play some video clips as songs rather than video clips. This has only recently happened. Do I need to purchase some decoder to fix it or is there a down oad for it?
When I try to watch streaming video on IE, all i get is sound. No video. I have WMP 10 and I cant seem to get it to work. It does sometimes, but most the time it doesn't.
i have a windows xps 200 desktop that was purchased in 2005. it had not been connected to the internet for a little over a year and, recently, when i got an internet connection i discovered that i could not get any sound streaming videos using hulu.com, Internet.com, or any other video site.i can still get sound using itunes and even in games that use the internet to connect with other players.i have checked my drivers and all of them are functioning properly, have uninstalled my sigmatel audio codec driver and reinstalled it, and have installed all the updates my computer requested in addition to driver updates the windows site recommended for my system. in short, i have done everything i can think of and have spent hours troubles hooting and looking for answers.
Ok. So I am streaming video and just doing my usual when suddenly my screen does a quick flicker and the video stops running,I try reloading the page and then I get a BSOD. I was guessing it was a video card issue but everything else runs just fine,my drivers are updated to the newest version all I can do is scratch my head and ponder. Like I said this only happens when I am streaming video. Never had this problem before. Had this box for over a year and this is the first issue I had with it. I have windows xpsp3.i have completely updated my computer,including the video card. my computer plays dvds fine and is crystal clear when i play them through windows media player. (media player 11).however,when im online looking at videos through UTube,or any other type of video player,including videos from cooliris,or just browsing cooliris,my video is choppy,or blurry. i use multiple browsers and have tried them all. none of them make a difference. i have google chrome (beta),which is the only google that can be used for cooliris,internet explorer 8,firefox,and lunascape 6.i cant understand why video works great on media player while playing videos and does not when playing any videos onlie. i have an (nvidia geforce mx 4000 ) it is updated. i also updated my directx version which is (9.0).
having a problem with my computer. when i visit Internet.com to watch videos, sometimes i get a message that says this: "hello, you either have javascript turned off or an old version of adobe's flash player. get the latest flash player." the video does not play. however, other videos load up just fine. the same thing happens on myspace videos. also, if i go to websites that have flash based games, they work just fine. what could be going on here? i am running windows xp.
i have a problem with audio on all internet buffers and it wasnt doing this before i tried installing the latest version of winamp 5.56. it gave me an error message saying the file was corrupted, allowing me to ignore, retry, or abort. i tried ignore and it gave me the message again so i just aborted. after that, any internet buffers have problems. for example, on Internet when watching videos, the video plays just fine, but the audio is choppy but still in sync with the video. video and sound will play for like 10 seconds and then the sound will cut out for 2 or 3 seconds only to come back still in sync with the video. i have the same issue with netflix and listening to online radio stations.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem as this person above... anyone know what's causing this problem and how to fix it? I know for a fact that it's strictly a software/driver issue and not related in any way to hardware. I happened to purchase 2 identical HP PCs and intially both were fine and then after about a week one of them began to exhibit this DVD playback problem. I swapped the hard drives and the problem followed with the hard drive over to the "good" PC and the problem was gone from the "bad" PC. My fear is that eventually this same problem will surface on the "good" hard drive... BTW, neither PC is connected to the Internet (by design, since I'm using them as stand alone workstations).
Im Using Windows Media Player 10 and When i play a dvd i get no sound and distorted video like a roll of film being exposed to sunlight. It may have somthing to do with overlays. The video problem started after i installed the latest 6800 Ultra drivers. All media players have the Video distortion. Distortion does not happen when i play video of my HDDs.
I just re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed Windows XP. ever since then i can only get black and White video playback on my video players: Windows Media Player 8, 10 and Nero 7 Showtime. slowness, stalls and really choppy video and audio everywhere on my computer. even the start-up windows chime is all warbly and choppy. i have problems with video stored on my hd, played from a dvd, as well as video online on Internet and my smugmug page. i have not noticed anything in particular taking up a lot of memory in the task manager, but there are an awful lot of programs in there and some duplicates of system processes
here is what i have tried -removed all unused programs, files -de-fragged hd -ran disk cleanup -removed unneeded programs from start-up process -ran windows, qt, media player, java and flash updates -ran virus scanner and registry cleaner
here is what i am working with: -toshiba tecra a6 laptop, always plugged in to ac power -windows xp sp2 -intel cpu t1300 @ 1.66ghz -504 mb ram -23 gb free space of a 52gb hd -minimal programs - mostly office 2007, outlook express, nero and adobe plus some tiny insignificant ones like my harmony remote program -nortons 360 (though i have removed this and still have the problem)
i am pretty comfortable working my way around advanced settings on my laptop and know enough to know what i should not change without help.

I just recently reformatted my laptop and couldn't help but notice the horrible video playback. I did a few things such as installing DirectX, updating flash player, and unchecking all non-microsoft related startup processes (msconfig). My laptop sometimes does great and plays my game at 20-30 FPS, but then after a few minutes, the FPS drops to about 3. Same with watching videos. It's like looking at pictures really. Thats how bad the choppiness is.
So I decided to do some investigation and installed Process Explorer to look into detail. Turns out that under the System process, there is a thread called kmixer.sys which is a driver for a soundcard. This one thing has spikes in CPU usage up to 70% sometimes. Another thread to look at under Svchost is krnl or kernel something. Also uses quite a bit sometimes.
I wanted to see if anyone could possibly help me as I would greatly appreciate it. I looked at just about every forum there is about my problems, and still haven't gotten a solid solution yet.

I have been having this problem for a couple of days now. I was listening to music which had been skipping for a while but not to bad and suddenly everything froze. i killed winamp and hit pulled up the task mgr. cpu usage was staying around 100% different processes popping up to the top. i downloaded process explorer and it has a file highlighted in dark red wmiprvse.exe i read this could be a virus but i verifed it was in the correct folder. im running win xp media center edition with sp3. while looking at processes in the task mgr the system idle process is usually at the top of the list. my computer pretty much freezes up every few seconds now for a second or 2 and whenever i open any program it freezes up for a good minute or 2. Anything else ya'll might need to know feel free to ask. is there a way i could check if it is a hardware problem? this is a Hp pavillion laptop amd turion 1.99ghz 2gb ram. i have also tweaked xp to run faster by removing the themes among other things. I think thats the only thing saving me right now.
I am having problems playing a downloaded movie on either of my two pc's, the audio plays but the video doesn't. I have tried mediaplayer, winamp and real player and both my computers but with no luck. the files will play from my dvd OK and a friends pc has no problem playing them.My problem is that i havnt a clue where to start to sort the problem out.
I am having problems with video playback on my comp. I have two dvd drives,a LiteOn DVD reader and a new Samsung DVDRW w/Lightscribe.I have had no problems in the past, but now my movies look really poor. I tried the disks in my laptop and they played fine. What is the prob? I've used Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime and PowerDVD and all three had the same playback issues.
I am trying to watch video playback on my tv. I am using a dell Latitude 610 with an s-video output cable. All displays are fine except video playback. I have used windows media player9, windows media player classic and nero. The video box opens fine and playback occurs on the laptop but I get a purple screen in the video box on the tv. resolution has been changed from 600x800 to 1024x768 with no change in video display.
Recently, my computer made a few beeping sounds, shut itself down and rebooted. Nothing happened. The second time it did it, there was no sound. I have Windows XP. When I start up my iTunes, it says iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. With Windows Media Player it says, Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly....
I recently installed Windows Service Pack 2, actually three times after reinstating my computer software to the original state by erasing and reinstalling the full software install CD on my computer's hard drive for Window XP Home. I have no problems playing games with my new FX 5200 Ultra video card by BFG, but I am at random times getting the annoying green screen that blanks out my videos I am streaming or playing(happens when I am streaming more often). Then after that happens usually, the computer reboots or shuts off. I never had this happen before.
WMP 10 will not play completely through an mpg file without hanging every few seconds.It seems like it is having a buffering problem but these short 3 minute mpgs have never caused a problem before. I tried downloading WMP10 again nothing changed.Is there a buffer setting that might have changed? I have 2G RAM and these files are little. I'm completely up to date on all MS updates.
Trouble watching video from one of my hard drives (XP). At first I thought it was a codec problem so I uninstalled and reinstalled the codecs but that never worked. Then I tried watching video on the other hard drive and no problem there.
I confirmed that its a hard drive problem when I tried to copy one of the files from the problematic hard drive, it showed 30mins left where it normally takes 1-2mins.
I checked to see if the channel was in PIO mode but all are in DMA.
I hate to be redundant---especially on my first post---but I have just started having the same problem, whether I'm trying to view a .wmv file using Windows Media Playe (9, 10, or 11) or trying to watch a DVD using Intervideo WinDVD. I have the Mobile Intel 945GM chipset video drivers, but of course their website offers no kind of support about this. I have PLENTY of these "minidumps" to offer for someone's perusal if anyone would care to help a guy out? I'm stuck in a hotel for the next three days with no way to watch DVDs, and the bare network TV for entertainment.
i have read all of the faq's and trouble shooting guides as to why windows media player 10 cannot play .avi files on my computer. i have no idea what kind of video card i have so i dont know if i can get the drivers for it.the playback is green and choppy but i can hear the audio, it does not do this with all movie files i beleive it is only .avi's.
My PC has been having problems with internet connectivity for about the last 2 - 3 months, and I can't seem to find what is causing (caused) it or how to fix it.See profile for full system specs, but more specifically to this problem, Marvell Yukon 88e8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet controller (updated the driver today) plugged into Netgear WGT624 wireless router running through Motorola SB4200 cable modem. Another PC connected wirelessly is not having any problem with the router. so I don't think there is any problem with it or the modem.System declared clean by AVG Pro, MS Anti-spyware, Adaware, Spybot, Trend Housecall.
After booting, warm or cold, after about 10 mins the internet connection drops out. Local Area Connection Status shows packets being sent, but nothing will recieve. My strong suspicion is that XP firewall is somehow corrupted, as I can't turn it off. I've found a way around this though, and that is to start ZoneAlarm, which is able to turn off XP firewall. After starting ZoneAlarm, I can then close it down and XP firewall kicks back in without any further problem although the connection FEELS slightly slower than in the first 10 mins before it drops out.
I posted a question on 6/18 regarding my streaming media not working off the intrenet, this person "dev" answered with a list of specific questions which I subsiquently tried to answer. Then dev never came back with anykind of an reply.
As per advice received here, I would like to create a Recovery CD including SP2 and all more recent updates received from Microsoft. However, it appears that you may not be able to do so unless you have an XP Operating System CD. Most computers come without such a creature unfortunately and neither of my systems have them. Is it possible to create such a Recovery disk using the OS Recovery CD which came with my Compaq/HP laptop?Or else, is it possible to copy just the SP2 plus all other Microsoft downloads without having to manually execute each and every file?
