Some Shared Folders Not Accessible - Home SP2 Linksys Router
Apr 13, 2007
I have a home network with 3 PC's running XP Home SP2 and a Linksys Router. I had to replace the mother board in one of the computers and since then some ... not all ... shared directories are not accessible from the other 2 computers. If I attempt to open some of the folders I get an error message that says "You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

I am hoping somebody on here will be able to help me. I just installed a wireless router so the kids could have the Internet on their computer. I went into the setup and set times to limit how late they could be on. When the time comes that they should be shut off the router disconnects them and then reconnects them shortly thereafter. I have it set to shut off at 9:00 p.m. and turned back on at 8:00 a.m.. I am using a Linksys systems router.

I am having problem in setting up a remote desktop connection to my
workplace through my Linksys BEFSX41 router at home. I know it is the router
causing the problem because when I physically bypass it, I can connect to my
workplace no problem with Remote Desktop Connection. Linksys doesn't seem to
be able to help me, they keep talking about VPN tunnels. I don't think that
this software uses VPN. I have tried disabling the built-in firewall, port
triggering port 3389 (don't really know what that does), creating a static ip
on my end and port forwarding port 3389 to that computer, and even a DMZ
doesn't work! Ultimately I would like to be able to use Remote Desktop
Connection on all my computers at home to connect to work, so I think that
port forwarding is not the right choice anyways. I don't see why the
client-side router should have to do port forwarding, I thought only the
host-side router should be port forwarding.

I am trying to run a system restore on one of my computers. I was trying to install a LinkSys wireless router on it. The router would start up fine, but after about 5 or 10 minutes, it would stop working and I would have no internet connection. I went and got a Dlink router, and thought I would do a system restore to before I attempted to put on the LinkSys router. The system restore has been running for more than an hour. The progress bar has gone about 80% and it seems nothing else is happening. I am fearful of turning off the machine in the middle of a restore.

I'm trying to uninstall a Linksys router from my desktop without any success. There is no Linksys software installed or any hardware (wireless card). I went from connecting from the modem to comp, to modem > router > comp using a Linksys setup tool. If I simply set up the comp the old way and reboot, I have no connection. Linksys does not provide a way to uninstall the router. Google did not give any results except that there is no way to remove it. How do I go back to connecting straight from the modem?

I'm not sure what settings I need to tweak, but I'm sure someone here as experienced this and might know. I have a desktop and a laptop, both running XP (desktop XP Home SP2, laptop XP Media Center SP2). Both systems are running ZoneAlarm firewall and both are current and set up properly for my network and for file sharing. I have file sharing/print sharing set up, and have no problems sharing files both ways...except... On both systems, I have "My Documents" shared, with both boxes check to "Share this folder on the network" and "Allow network users to change my files".

Am trying to set up a network with xp Home edition. I am curious about a couple of things. What is the difference in copying verses moving a file to the shared document folder? I would thing that by copying it, one is "duplicating" it and thereby using up resources. IF that is the case, when you access a file and make changes, are the changes saved to both places?

I am having a system with XP Pro x64 with multiple shared folders. Here is the setup. I have about 10 users (1 Admin account, 9 Limited accounts). I have created 10 folders for each User and modified them as shared folders with each user having access to their respective folders ONLY while the Admin account will have access to all folders. I have disabled 'Simple File Sharing', switched off Guest Account. Now I can view this system on other systems on the n/w. But the problem is, if I map a shared folder on one system, I was not able to map anymore on other systems and it gives error, 'the system can not accept multiple connections' in those lines.

They are both running Windows XP Pro SP3 and file/print sharing is turned on. Simple file sharing is turned on.Both computers can Ping each other successfully. Both computers can "Net View" each other successfully. Both computers can see the other's shared folders in My Network Places.Computer A can access the shared folders on Computer B and transfer files, etc.

I have a new pc freshly installed with XP SP3. I used it as a server, I shared the two harddrives and mapped them as drive F and G on the network. The sharing and mapping is successfull, however, after a few minutes of being started (or after the pc has been restarted), the sahred folders and harddrives were self-disconnected for unknown reasons. My colleage timed it, and the sharing lasts only 15 minutes after restart then it is disonnected from the network. When i say disconnected - i mean i can't be seen from other PC's connected to the network, i need to restart the pc (again and again) in order for the harddrive and folder sharing is restored. I can say it is disconnected because the sharing icon (a hand with a disk drive on the palm) disappears and other PC's cannot access it.

I set up a shared folder on my hard drive for music that my daughter can listen to from her computer. Everything is fine, she can play the music with no problem. I wanted to hear a song, couldn't remember where or what it was named so I did a search for the song and surprisingly, the windows search returned three results for the song I wanted to hear. One song is in my music folder, and the other two songs are shown in the same folder. Here is an abbreviated search result for this one song:

Building a new network of 6 boxes. All using WinXP Pro SP3.Yesterday I created a few shared folders - and they work fine all the other machines can access them. Installed a bunch of new software on the same main machine today also had a BIOS/registry/diskcheck issue - but everything seems fine now . EXCEPT, any folders I create as shared folders, while they show up on the other machines - all get the "can't be accessed permission denied" type of error message. The shares I created yesterday still work, they can be accessed, its just any new ones I create can not.simple file sharing is off, I edited the reg key to all anonymous connections, I added the NETWORK as a group allowed to access the new shares - but nothing works.

My home computer gets used by four different people, all of which, apart from me, have almost no idea what they're doing. So, to protect my music collection from accidental deletion etc. I used the user access feature of vista so that only my user account could access the folder that contains all the music... I now cannot access this folder from XP... the data is still there, I've done my maths with free space on drive, but XP reckons the folder is empty, and says. Quote: d: music is not accessible Access is denied when I double click it..

I am running Virtual PC 2007 on a Vista Platform. Everything is good with the exception of setting up shared folders. I have three guest PCs running. I have installed Virtual Machine Additions on all three. I am able to set up and access a shared folder on the host system on one of the three with no problem but the other two refuse to access any shared folder. When I configure the shared folder, it shows up in the guest PC under MyComputer, but it shows as "disconnected" and is inaccessible.

I was putting some mp3s from a folder onto iTunes. iTunes decided to be rude and delete some of the data, so I went back and fixed it... then, I clicked over to F:/, and lo and behold, suddenly it thought it was a music folder, and had even taken on the details view of the music folder I was just in! My Documents also thinks it's a music folder now,
My hard drive was all messed up anyway, so I thought that was just what caused it. It had also put some of my album images on random system folders, the hard drive's been replaced now, and it's happened again.
