i have changed my moniter.its an old model of HP. i have set the contrast and brightness to its full limit. still the colours are very dark in it.there is no colour option but there are red blue green colour options.i have tried everything from moniter menu but i am not getting the originality if the pic.i want it to be more bright and a bit less colours. is there any other option for doing it?
View 1 RepliesI'll cut to the chase.What I am asking is someway of turning the Entire Windows Desktop/Screen "Black and White" not simply High Contrast.I am one of those unfortunate ones, like many, that suffer from quite severe migraines from time to time. Couple this with frequent headaches, sometimes daily. This obviously isnt helped by the fact that my hobby and career are both in IT. I have tried every possible solution to alleviate the headaches. Lay off certain foods, make sure to have a balanced diet. Turn off any strong lighting around my computer screen, remove any strong colours from the desktop etc.

What happens is that the download just stops at the 2GB mark for no apparent reason. I tried using Firefox 2.0.0.3, IE6 and IE7 (which I downloaded against my better judgment) all with the same faliure. The first time, I tried to download it from gamearena.com.au (hosted by Bigpond) and all subsequent times, as unmetered content from my ISP (Inter node).I first googled the problem and came up with lots of questions but no answers. Then I emailed my ISP who are usualy outstanding for customer support (they haven't outsourced their call centers and don't plan to) but they too couldn't find a specific answer. They were however able to suggest that it was a Windows thing as there was nothing about my connection or firefox that would limit download size to 2GB.So the question stands; How do I get Windows XP Media center 2005 to allow over size http downloads?

(I am refering to both the logon screen, which i think is 5, and actual number of user accounts in the system like is seen in the "local users and groups" section)The reason for me asking is b/c my friends mom needs to share out a file at her work and they dont have a server. (guessing maybe 7-13 people) All of which are going to be needing very different access rights to this folder.Id like to just create a user account for each person and adjust the folder share rights by each user. And this way each person could have thier own username and PW for making the connection as if they were connecting to a file share on a 2000 server.

All went fine.
I then connected to my network from my other pc upstairs and tried to send a 4.5gb file it got all the way to the end then says "disk is full" but the computer i set up my network with has 60gb spare.
i tried sending a 200mb file and that worked ok

During any type of game play, i.e. COD or Quake, if I adjust the volume or use the Q3E minimizer, I have to exit the game and readjust the brightness in the game system settings before I can play again because the screen gets dark. Other friends I play with do not have this problem
View 3 Replies View RelatedBackground being dark, therefore, we are not able to view the game / images in the game.... this happened after my son did a (alt-tab) between WOW and a background program - when WOW was brought back up the screen darkened..... we have not been able to brighten the monitor screen since that incident and it is becoming a pain since we can no longer view online or computer images probably due to a darkness that over shadows everything.

Today, I turned it on, the Windows started to load (3 blue dots made about 20 runs), but after that the screen went dark, while Windows continued to load (I could hear all the sounds associated with starting different programs). Moreover, when I started Windows in a Safe mode, the screen was fine and I was able to use computer. The same monitor I used with another computer and it worked fine, too. May someone please tell me what could be wrong? Keep in mind, when screen goes dark, the Windows continue to load and works. I just cannot see it. So, I presume, the computer is OK. The monitor is OK too: it works in the Safe mode and with another computer. Why this monitor became incompatible with this computer? They worked fine before.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a family PC running XP Home with six user accounts. All are administrator accounts and I prefer to keep them that way. The PC is firewalled and has AV and anti-spyware SW and I try to educate my family in safe computing practices.
My problem is that the 8, 11, and 15 y-o boys keep screwing up each others accounts (on purpose) by changing each other's passwords, or changing them to limited accounts. My 11 y-o for example, thinks his 8 y-o brother should not be allowed to install "Sponge Bob Whatever"; so he changes his account to limited. (Somehow he thinks it is ok though to install Limewire or Bearshare even after I tell him not to).Is there a way in XP Home to give users "Power User" privileges which will allow them to do most everything administrators can do, but not be able to access other user accounts?
I have not been able to get past a dark screen for two days. I have rebooted about 10 to 15 times. One of those times it attempted to do a scan disc but failed to complete. One time I got the XP loading screen, but it failed also. If I turn the moniter off then on, I get the moniter logo followed by NO SYNC. I am not a pc guru, but I think the hard drive may be dead.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's the second time that my son, a most serious enterpriser and artist, insists that, at opening his web/blog in my PC, the green colour it's seen dark blue; not abnormalities in his paintings, but just some brightness that he doesn't like. Every other issues, as starting XP's windows and I suppose, every other pages that I open daily, look normal. I start believing my son, but I think this is the funniest finding I have heard about and worries me a little, that is not so little.

I have two dvd drives,a LiteOn DVD reader and a new Samsung DVDRW w/Lightscribe.I have had no problems in the past, but now my movies look really poor. I tried the disks in my laptop and they played fine. What is the prob? I've used Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime and PowerDVD and all three had the same playback issues.

And sometimes, I will get a blue screen when using the dvd players or sometimes when trying to run programs. HELP. Have to use system restore to get it to work right again.
View 11 Replies View Relatedi don't know if this problem is hard ware or software, but here goes.my friend brought me a laptop that had a dark screen. this thing had lots more problems. it was running XP SP1. with an out dated 2005 norton AV. the first thing i did was put an external monitor on it. i was then able to see what was going on. i upgraded to SP3 and uninstalled Norton. i then installed AVG. ran a full scan. i installed spybot and adaware. ran both the only thing left is 3 instances of "wieldtangent" that i am not able to remove. i thought that the screen problem would go away, with the virus scan but it did not. when you boot the laptop you can see the splash screen, then it goes dark. (you have an image but it is not lite up) then about 1/2 way through the boot screen comes back on and then it goes out. then you are able to see the desktop and about 5 sec. later it goes dark again.

I want the basic Windows XP system files and drivers on my "C" drive and then I want to accumulate data files (word processing, spreadsheets, photos, music files, etc.) on the new partition which in this case has been labeled the "G" drive. The difficulty I am having is getting getting the "Documents and Settings" to move over to the "G" drive. So that when I want to load photographs from my camera to the computer it goes for C:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Instead I would like it to go to G:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Using Windows Explorer I changed the file name of "My Documents" to 'Windows XP old path My Documents" and then I was going to set up a new path to the "G" drive through Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Managment>Disk Management.
However I noticed that when I clicked on Start in the bottom left hand corner and it puts up that little window that "My Documents" which was listed now had the new title 'Windows XP old path My Documents' which I believe means I haven't gotten to the proper place to change the main configuration for Documents and Settings. Long way of saying how do I change the basic configuration for where Document and Settings are stored to a new location.
I am getting a message saying this file has reached its limit. I have deleted many files and also emptied the deleted folder. I am still getting tis message and although outlook is telling me I have new messages in my inbox, I cannot see them.

Im fully aware of why one would'nt be able to get Windows XP to use a full four gigabytes of memory but I thought I had taken the appropriate steps to remedy the problem. Im using the 64-bit version of Windows XP Pro and I've enabled memory hole remapping in my motherboards BIOS but for whatever reason windows is still telling me im only using around 3GB of memory. What am I doing wrong?

It will run in safe mode and I have tried to run anti virus etc with no problems. I have tried windows directory services restore mode. I have tried to restore a previous know working set of data. I have removed the ticks from all in startup but still the machine goes through showing the microsoft screen then goes blank and after a few minutes tries to start up again. I have noticed that when I shut down I get an end program screen of (End Program-- Sample), when clicked it says this program is not responding. I have looked through windows explorer under program files and can't see a program just called Sample.I am going into hospital shortly for a major op and wanted to use the laptop to look at DVD's to pass the time, so any help gratefully rec'd.

Only 2.16 GB of this is programs as I have my programs installed on another drive. Looking in my Windows folder, I found 16.8 MB of log (text) files. Can these be removed? Can I turn off whatever is creating them?I downloaded Disk Size Manager after reading some other messages on this site. It says my C: drive is 12,815.60 MB which should be 15 GB. Where is the just over 2 GB that are missing? Windows uses 4,887.88 MB. Documents and Settings is 3,090.28.Is this normal?I wish I could move the programs to my D: drive, but I can't find a way. They are only available on my computer restoration disks and it puts them where it wants to instead of letting me decide where I want them. I tried running a free program called Move It!, but it looks like they are moving but they don't.

( I wasn't downloading anything).This seemed very odd to me as I always clean up my hardrive regularly.I usually defrag my hardrive every few weeks and the last time I did it I had 29% free space. Now when I check it I have 0% free space and the hard drive has over 20000 fragmented files, I've never seen it look like this.I ran spyware and came back no threats.Something has filled up my hardrive unexplainable.I've tried a lot of things from system restore to chkdsk.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased an HP 8530w laptop that came with an xp from Vista downgrade preinstalled. I foolishly let Windows update automatically update the OS using the Express mode. It downloaded and installed SP3 and several .NET framework patches. The laptop also came with HP Credential Manager installed. The problem I'm encountering is that even though I logon under an administrator account I can't delete files under any of the USers under documents and settings, including the administrator acciunts Everytime I try to delete a cookie, or remove some documents (under My Documents) the file management program (Explorer or PowerDesk, I use both) pauses and then shuts down, and creates an error message to send to Microsoft. In short the system will allow the administrator to administrate. Can't uninstall SP3 because it doesn't show up in Add/Remove Programs, and can't delete any of the .NET framework updates even though they are listed.
