I'm using an HP Pavilion notebook with XP Home that's about three months old, and have been having some problems with it here and there for maybe two/three weeks. Programs were crashing, not opening, some audio problems, etc. I used Advanced System Optimizer & TuneUp Utilities '06 to clean the registry and things were actually ok for a while.A few days ago, however, Bon Echo started crashing a bit and I had more problems with other programs. Then, after starting up the PC, XP would get to the screen just before showing the account logons and it would suddenly restart, then just loop that process.
Out of the blue tonite, my computer started crashing when I went to play GRAW2. I couldn't even get to the desktop to try and sort things out. Booted in safe mode and got an error message saying my system32 file was corrupted and suggested I do a repair with the XP Pro disk. I did that, started GRAW 2 again and got another crash. (see attached thumbnail) I haven't added or removed anything from this computer in months, and it is rock solid performer. What the heck happened between last night and tonite to make it go crazy like this?
I have an Fujitsu Amilo M1437G and have lost the Repair disks - it has XP Home Two Choices - buy a new set Obtain the SATA drivers and slipstream them onto a cd with XP Home.
First time poster; having an issue with a Windows XP repair installation. More specifically, during the repair installation process I am presented with this error message:"Files Needed The file 'asms' on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK. Copy files from: D: . . . " Note that the Windows XP DVD includes Service Pack 2. Also note that when the error message presents, the CD-ROM essentially goes dead.
I was having problems with my computer and a BSOD that pointed to my hd. I decided to reinstall XP but then decided to try a repair first. The repair seems to work to an extent as pc starts fine now and seems to load normally etc. However upon starting I noticed the desktop had reverted back to default, my programs weren't listed in the start menu and favorites were gone. I was guessing that it wiped my hd like I had done a re-install. So I went to copy some of my backed up files but when I went into My Computer I see that all my files are still there under C:Documents&SettingsOwner like before. But also under Documents & Settings are these folders now.
I recently had some problems with some viruses and stuff and my system was still a bit "off" even after I removed them. Luckily I have Acronis True image and was able to revert back to a nice state of operation. As nice and clean as my system is right now I find that not everything is still not hunky. Some fonts stay the wrong sizes and other cosmetic things, so I have decided I should also run the Windows XP repair option again just to make everything right. My question is..What can I expect after I run it? Will all of my applications stilll function etc?
Not sure if this is the right forum but whenever I speak on teamspeak or even record myself with sound recorder, all the noises from my speakers, yes speakers, echo in the recording and its 10x as loud as it is in the speaker. For example, I'm talking on teamspeak and someone else says something, their words echo 10x as loud and they kick me
I have just installed some anti virus software and during installation I got messages saying my registry had been damaged and i should log onto such-and-such site to download repair software and run it on my system. I am suspicious that if I do this I am exposing myself to total destruction. One of the messages has just popped up again and the site it directs me to is FixReg32.com.
Problems started was when i updated my Zone Alarm firewall, windows works absolutely fine no problems what so ever, then next time i reboot it does the same, this time problems are non-stop until about 10% then fine from there on in, then when it finishes repairing the drive it gets stuck at repairing unreadable security descriptions date stream.
It also said whilst recovering orphaned files insufficient disk space to recover lost files. It stopped for a while then carried on. After scan disk it restarted and wouldn't load windows, just got stuck on windows loading screen forever, eventually 15+ minutes i pressed reset as there was no disk activity.
Hi, my cd-rom driver has been removed and replaced with a generic one I have tried system restore but it didn't work I have windows xp and I am supposed to have philips CDD 4851 driver and I have an IDE driver and CD-ROM won't even open help please
I was going to make a new partition with MCE 2005 that I got with my computer. If I make a new partition and install MCE 2005, would I still be able to access XP Pro (like how you can change between operating systems on a Mac). I don't want to reformat and install MCE 2005 all by itself because I've had to reformat 3 times in the past year and I don't have the time to reinstall all my programs a 4th time. I just want to have 2 different OS on my system that I can change between...I'd use XP Pro 99% of the time, and then I'd reboot and switch to MCE 2005 when I needed Movie Maker and Media Center. Is it possible to change like that though?
I have Win XP Home Ed.I know I should have the Service Packs installed.However, the individual security updates that were offered are all installed. I decided to get SP2 and ordered the CD after my auto update would show that on a list to be downloaded. After I received the SP2 CD, I checked for new updates by turning on the auto updater. It showed SP2 on the download window.I went to the Windows Update Website and it showed that I needed SP1. That is confusing because it showed only SP2 on the list a couple of weeks prior to this.So can I just go ahead and install SP2 from my CD, or do I have to install SP1 first?

I recently had a bad hard drive (It need the windows xp cd to boot) and saw that the problem was bad blocks. I decide to buy a new hard drive and use ghost to clone it. But, now i have the same problem with the new hard drive. After a while, i realize that obviously, if the disk was cloned, ONLY the information that can be copied was transfered to the other one.In conclusion, how can I resolve this issue without using system repair. the problem is that once i use this tool and then IE won't work. at last I had to format the drive.
I run a home network of several pc,s(6) of various makes/models plus i like to mess around with my mates pc,s(ouch) and im hoping someone(or more) can/will recommend a good program for identifying, downloading and installing the nessary and updated drivers needed to keep/get my pc,s running well, preferebly a free program but all suggestions will be considered and appreciated, and i forgot to mention that they all run on xp sp2. my ladys computer has no sound. In the device manager it just has a big yellow "?" for multimedia, so I will assume the drivers have not been installed. After doing some reading on this forum I downloaded EVEREST Home Addition. In Everest -> Multimedia-> Windows Audio is empty. In Everest->Multimedia->PCI/PnP Audio I have SIS 7012 Audio Device.Where from here?As a simple kinda guy I would appreciate full instructions.

An elderly friend of mine runs a business out of her house and when she was away, her partner came to her house and installed something on her computer so she could monitor what she was doing from her own computer. I'm assuming it's something like 'Go to my pc' etc. She's running windows xp and isn't sure what to do. Before I look at her computer I wanted to ask for opinions in case there is some kind of stealth software installed that would be difficult to find and uninstall.
The C drive on my WinXP Pro SP3 desktop has < 14% free space. I'm building a new system and am using the current desktop as my production system. Since this small % of free space occasionally causes WinXP Pro to complain, I'm analyzing which applications that are disk space hogs can be uninstalled. One likely candidate is Java, which consumes ~ 1 GB of disk space in the form of several updates. Are all Java Updates needed or just the most recent ones?
I've recently switched from Linux because it overheated my laptop. I installed Win XP SP 3. I partitioned my hdd in only 2 primary partitions, c and d. I don't know how to create the swap memory, as I did at Linux installation (at the first partioning). It appears that Windows did it already, because at Virtual Memory it says: minimum 2024 and maximum 4096 if I remember well, and allocated curently it is 2024MB. I don't know if it is ok, I didn't touch anything here. My RAM is 4 GB in Bios, but windows recognizes only 3 GB.

I have searched the web and numerous 'missing dll sites'. I do not want to download any 'fix-it' software, as I currently run - and are satisfied with - Norton 2005. However each time I run Norton Doctor, I receive the error message, that I have a missing file. ''sbpack32.dll'' which is needed by rts.exe where I might get a copy of this .dll file?
Just got a new PC, but don't like Win.7 much, everything works OK, but far too complicated for my simple needs, Still got my old legal Disk for Win. XP, and would like to copy it to a removeable Hard Drive, and use that instead. I don't want to partition my new Win.7 Disk, in case of conflicts.Does anyone know how much space a basic Win.XP Home Edition Disk takes up on a Hard Drive? I should then be able to upgrade it to Service Pack 3, to match my old one, and use that. I would then be able to go back onto my Win.7 PC, when and if I fancy it, without any problem.
I recently reformated my hard drive and forgot to back up all my pictures i had in my pictures folder. Is theres anyway to get my pictures back with software or any data recovery services that you can recomend?
I know that many viruses and other malware, as part of their attack, delete all restore dates so that the user has no date to return to. Is there a way to back this info up on removable media? It would seem that, after an attack, one could copy this back onto the main harddrive and then be able to use the System Restore function. If so, what's the filename(s) where this info is stored?

A couple of years ago I purchased a computer with Windows XP pre-installed. I recently had a bad crash, and corrupted my hard drive.The recovery disk does not work.I need an installation disk to reinstall my system.Can I get one from somewhere? As I understand it, if I go to a shop and buy a Win XP installation disk, I'm really paying for the licence.The disk itself is a trivial expense.I have already paid for a licence for XP. But I don't have the disk to install it.I don't want to have to buy a new copy and pay for a licence which I already own.
