my ladys computer has no sound. In the device manager it just has a big yellow "?" for multimedia, so I will assume the drivers have not been installed. After doing some reading on this forum I downloaded EVEREST Home Addition. In Everest -> Multimedia-> Windows Audio is empty. In Everest->Multimedia->PCI/PnP Audio I have SIS 7012 Audio Device.Where from here?As a simple kinda guy I would appreciate full instructions.
View 3 RepliesI run a home network of several pc,s(6) of various makes/models plus i like to mess around with my mates pc,s(ouch) and im hoping someone(or more) can/will recommend a good program for identifying, downloading and installing the nessary and updated drivers needed to keep/get my pc,s running well, preferebly a free program but all suggestions will be considered and appreciated, and i forgot to mention that they all run on xp sp2. View 3 Replies View RelatedI just completed a reformat/reinstall on a Dell Dimension 4700 running an OEM version of Windows XP Home Multimedia Edition. I had a few driver issues, but I got them all resolved but one, and that is the Multimedia Audio Controller, which is listed under "other devices" in the Device Manager. When I run the wizard, it says it can't find the driver. I located the device by running msinfo32, and I went to the Dell site and located the driver I need (I think) which is R89530.exe.
I downloaded the driver and it only downloads about 1 Mb of a 7 Mb file. I double clicked to run it anyway, and after going through the standard process of creating a folder for it, this message popped up: "This self-extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set." Then when I cancel out of the download, it gives me the message, "An error occurred while unzipping. One or more files were not successfully unzipped. The error code is 190."
I have downloaded the file from Dell USA, Dell Canada, and Dell Europe, as well as from an ftp site I found on Google, which is a list of Dell compatible drivers, and the same thing happens with each download. Have you ever seen this before, and if so, do you know of any solution? I currently have no sound, except for the pathetic little beep the system occasionally makes -- nothing at all out of the speakers.
I need to track down drivers for my Packard Bell Imedia 3082 XP Pro service pack 3 desktop. I have been to the packard bell support/drivers site and found 5 out of 7 missing drivers. I had tried the suggested site previously but when i clicked on download products i kept getting a "server not found message". Tried it yesterday again and it worked so thanks to the people who suggested that. Problem now is I am still missing my ethernet controller driver and my multimedia controller driver. I dont know the exact device details in order to download the two missing drivers. to tracking down the ethernet and multimedia controller. I have downloaded and installed the multimedia driver from the Pack Bell Imedia 3082 site but still it is yellow with exclamation mark. And i still cant connect to my Belkin router. So in brief: I need the device details to my ethernet controller and multimedia controller so that i can track down the drivers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having some major issues with multimedia files, namely if I try to play any mpg files on either my WMP or an ATI Multimedia player, my player crashes immediately and I get the standard windows XP error and report it but the windows explorer window also closes with the same type of windows error and reports the problem.
I can only assume this is a result from a "phantom" jpg file I found in a folder this week. The file was "anchored" in a folder in my documents, I say anchored because I was unable to delete/rename/copy/cut/drag and drop/etc. the jpg. Again, I'm only calling it a jpg as it showed a jpg icon although no image was displayed in the preview window and when I selected properties under the file menu, it showed no information, no description, nothing, it even showed 0 kb, although I seem to recall it showed perhaps 82kb when listed in the folder. I was able to finally delete the file by deleting the file folder it was stored in, but it did not undo the damage I mentioned above. Prior to figuring out how to delete the file I ran Adaware, Spybot S&D, Norton, and Ewido and they found nothing out of the ordinary. I also posted an HJT log here and was told it appeared to be clean.
So, when I saw the "debugger" link, I found PCRescue and installed and ran it. Of course I knew it would find lots of errors over 700 but would only delete about 22 in only two registries "windows startup" and "file extensions" Is it worth paying for the full version or is this problem something much more alarming. Lastly, I occassionally see a window informing me DrWatson Debugger needs to be closed, I never installed DrWatson and when I tried to Uninstall it using the control panel, I find no listing there.
How do I uninstall all drivers associated with my (windows xp) touch pad. Touch Pad is not working / bad drivers installed drivers over bad drivers.

A friends HP Media Center PC m7077c crashed. Had no recover disk, etc. Installed XP Pro SP2 and I need drivers (according to Device Manager). No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. The drivers are not the same.

When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. If I make a new partition and install MCE 2005, would I still be able to access XP Pro (like how you can change between operating systems on a Mac). I don't want to reformat and install MCE 2005 all by itself because I've had to reformat 3 times in the past year and I don't have the time to reinstall all my programs a 4th time. I just want to have 2 different OS on my system that I can change between...I'd use XP Pro 99% of the time, and then I'd reboot and switch to MCE 2005 when I needed Movie Maker and Media Center. I don't know how to create the swap memory, as I did at Linux installation (at the first partioning). It appears that Windows did it already, because at Virtual Memory it says: minimum 2024 and maximum 4096 if I remember well, and allocated curently it is 2024MB. I don't know if it is ok, I didn't touch anything here. My RAM is 4 GB in Bios, but windows recognizes only 3 GB.

XP, and would like to copy it to a removeable Hard Drive, and use that instead. I don't want to partition my new Win.7 Disk, in case of conflicts.Does anyone know how much space a basic Win.XP Home Edition Disk takes up on a Hard Drive? I should then be able to upgrade it to Service Pack 3, to match my old one, and use that. I would then be able to go back onto my Win.7 PC, when and if I fancy it, without any problem.
