Removing The Fade Effect From Maximizing - Minimizing OS
Sep 16, 2008
I am almost sure this question has already been asked, but I have not been able to locate it: How do I remove from Windows XP that gradual fade to minimize or maximize a window? I value the speed that my system reacts to me more than eye candy effects that are set by default to on by Windows. A link to a corresponding topic thread will do.

maximizing screen estate - I want as much content as possible with as little visual "bling" as possible (I maximize the window of every application I am using). Several applications - such as Opera - allow removing the menu, toolbars, taskbars etc. from the screen, but one thing usually remains:the standard Window(s) title bar.On a 1280x1024 display, that leaves quite a lot of blue (or silver)nothing on top with just the Minimize/Restore/Close widgets in the right corner.

When I open up a web page and minimize a page it will do so and then the page maximizes by itself. It won't stay minimized. This only happens sometimes and it started today? What would cause this and what can i do to stop it. Windows XP sp2 is the os.

I use Outlook for my email and have Windows XP (I think).Recently when I go to minimize outlook(so it shows up on thte bottom task bar)it completely closes. So I can't minimize it without closing it so I end up dragging most of it off my screen so I can access it easily.

for probably a year now perhaps my games minimize themselves to desktop and then i reopen then again no problem - but soon i want to play some online games and it will really get on my nerves in the heat of battle for the program to minimize. it isnt just games that do this also when watching full screen windows media player it will revert to regular. these events happen around every hour or so i guess.

Both browsers (IE and Firefox) display pages with no background on one of my computers (Sony laptop running WinXP SP1.) I have two more computers on the same wireless network and there is no problem there. Everything works fine on the machine in question, except of this problem. Since the problem is the same in TWO browsers, I think it might be some wrong setting in XP. Attached are screen shots from two of my computers. The image on top is how a web page looks on one of my other computers and the image at the bottom shows the problem I have on the machine in question. Every single Site (not just this one) looks like the bottom image, BOTH in IE and Firefox, on this machine. This looks as if some "global" command "do not show background" is set, but, as far as I know, there's no such command.

Had diffs yesterday with computer running at snail speed > did ad-aware/norton scans to clean up > now when I minimize any open window, the tab/s just disappear/s to the left of the lower taskbar so they can't be opened easily again. Must be an easy fix for this but after hours of research in MS Help + Google + your existing threads, haven't been able to source a solution. It happened once before but I can't recall how I got it going properly again - that's what age does to the memory!! Now when I have a PC prob & manage to solve it, I note the solution for the future!Would greatly appreciate any suggestions to solve this irritating prob.

Janet has a "Time" Notebook which has developed an odd effect when scrolling ( pages, or lines). Instead of the page or line moving downwards smoothly, it ripples.this happens whether she uses the built-in mouse or one plugged into a port. It's a PS2, if that is of any use.She has a new optical mouse and XP found the software for it but the rippling happens with the new mouse as well.Any ideas would be most gratefully received. The Notebook isn't here with me.We've run Spybot, Disk Cleanup, Defragmenter, and a scan when the computer is switched on. She uses Zone Alarm and AVG Antivirus.I downloaded XTeq Setup and set the number of lines to scroll (3) but the same thing happens.

I have 3 user accounts on my computer, 2 of which are admins and the 3rd is my 7 year old daughter. Instead of moving start menu programs around, can I just put it all into the all users folder and somehow check which folders/files in there her account can access?
Also, when running anti-spyware/anti-virus programs from my account, will it catch nasties in the other 2 accounts as well or do I have to run the programs from each user account?

For the past week, I have been geting this pop-up every so often I use IE7. Some Asian site http://www.100x10000.com/cai_union.html keeps opening every time I start IE or it sometimes opens when I go to another site. I'm using XP and IE7, I don't want suggestions on using other browsers, just need someone to help me remove it. I had a similar thing a long time ago, and I searched it on google and found the solutions right away. I can't find anything on that ad, but I'm pretty sure I can solve it the same way, but I don't remember what file I deleted the first time to get rid of the other add pop-up.

I have a computer that runs windows xp pro, service pack 1. I was having trouble with freezing and a whole lot of pop ups, I started a virus scan with anti vir and it deleted a whole bunch of trojan horses, but didn't find any viruses. I installed the free version of AdAware and every time I try to run a scan, it starts ok but after a few minitues it has found about 20 critical objects when it just turns off by itself. I have restarted it several times and it does the same thing. I have downloaded spyware doctor and spybot, but every time I try to install them, it tells me that a dll or some other thing like a scripter cannot install. Can someone tell me why AdAware is quiting by itself and why spybot and spyware doctor cannot be installed.

I have recently installed windows XP pro SP 2 on my computer. Is there a way to remove a user from the welcome screen so that no body knows the log in name of that user. Just like the build in administrator account which is not displayed on welcome screen but one can log into this account thru the classic log in screen instead of welcome screen (pressing Ctrl Alt Del) twice?

Anyone know a good method of purging an XP pc of a user, like when a machine is sold and the new user wants all traces of the old user removed?
I thought I had a reasonably good method, which was to create a new user account, remove the default files from it's folder in Documents and Settings, copy most of the contents of the original user's folder into it, then delete the original user.
This method isn't too bad, and removes most of the obvious traces of the original owner, while leaving all the desktop and Windows settings intact.
But a scan with RegSeeker (incidentally, this is a damn good free app for finding and deleting multiple registry entries) revealed 85 instances of the old user name still in the Registry, so my method isn't 100% effective

cant get the xp theme back on my system after removing a virus and using the restore feature on my xp cd. I did notice that my theme changed to the windows classic style while dealing with the virus. The virus changed my theme to classic and added a webpage as my background picture so I think that was the cause. What should I do to fix this problem of not being able to change my theme to xp.
Ps. The theme is available but when I choose it all it does is it changes my background picture and colors but my buttons and windows stay classic.
