I had one account on a machine running XP Home with one password account. MINE! I had to recover. Now I try to go through c:Documents and SettingsOwner to get into the old Documents and get my old desktop files out but it says I'm not allowed access. How do I beat this. I really need these documents and I know they're there.All info will help and I already searched the archives and didn't see anything.
View 1 RepliesI just did a restore on a compaq laptop that is about 5 years old. It was having problems connecting to internet so I started the restore a few years ago. When I started the restore it was just shutting off on me. I gave up and bought a new computer. Well just a few days ago a good friend of mine passed away, and his family wants pictures that I had on this computer. Went to start it up and see if it would turn on. It did and continued with the restore, It finished the restore, but now there is none of my data left. I would love to get these pictures back

First make sure the pic you choose is fairly square, that's because you have to resize it to 48 x 48 pixels, so you dont want it to distort too much. It also has to be a bitmap (.bmp extension) for it to work. A good graphic utility should take care of both the resizing and saving it into a bitmap.2.After you have it ready go to the following folder:X:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftUser Account PicturesDefault Pictures (Application Data is a hidden folder)That's the place where all the little account pixies are located, copy the one (or the ones) you had prepared into that folder.3. Click the Start Button then click over the account picture and it will take you to a new window that tells you to choose another pic for your account, look for the one you just created select it, and click the "change picture" button and you're all set!.So now you don't have to put up with the flower or that blue butterfly you just hate :o).Enjoy!
I know it is less fun, but Windows lets you use any picture and will automatically resize it for you. Look for the 'Browse for more pictures' button in Control Panel.
Something I have presumably done recently (but I don't know what) means I can no longer pick up a picture from anywhere, using "right click on desktop / properties" to use as a desktop background.It USED to work, and I could pick up a picture from anywhere. Now when I select a picture from somewhere, and click to use it as a background, nothing happens.I can still apply a picture as a desktop background from (say) Picasa.I was fiddling (carefully, I thought) with "Tweakui" but have been back through it, and can't see anywhere I may have interfered with this function. Maybe I'm just not smart enough.

Two other accounts are normally available on the machine, Mine (named "RedCola") which is a passworded administrator account and a non-passworded limited access account.Tonight when trying to log on I accidentally typed the wrong password. When I entered the correct password on the second time it gave me a message that my account was locked and would have to contact my administrator. I rebooted just in case and the account was not available to select, but the generic Administrator account was now there. When I went into that account to check User Accounts though the Control Panel my account (named RedCola) was not even listed. I rebooted again. At the log-in screen I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and typed in my account name and password. Again, same message about the account being locked.

All are Windows XP SP2 fully updated. But Computer #1 is Media Center Edition. Neither computer is password protected.When move PICTURES I then cannot view, move, copy or delete them. When moved/copied from camera, they are OK until I move them again. (Probably the same for non picture files.)When open a file from one computer on network, often cannot open it from a different computer - either way.

I gave it admin privileges and a password. Now, my other admin account is gone and I can't access any admin files from my new account. I reviewed the forums and found this is a common problem but I couldn't find any resolution for my specific problem. Please help! I would hate to erase my hardrive and re-install windows! View 5 Replies View Relatedim tired of watching silent videos from Internet. im pretty decent at looking up information on the web but i couldnt provide this time so bare with me as this is my first time posting anything in any forum. i have a computer that my download happy stepmom screwed up and crashed. it worked great untill she went crazy and spent 10-16 hours a day everyday on myspace and she evidently followed every lead from myspace to download something. a total of about 100 gb worth of downloads. and then it crashed when i was on vacation. and because she couldnt get off myspace for a week untill i got home she did a system recovery herself without any technical knowledge or experience. and ever since then there has been no sound. she had me try to fix it once but she had withdraws after about 30 minutes and kicked me off to go download more crap. she moved out and i finally have unrestricted time allowances. four months later with no way of backing up all my music videos documents and almost legal programs i cant seem to log on to the admin account to replace the driver manually.

when i boot into safe mode the screen pops up with the user account and the admin account(no password) but when i click on the admin account it says "loading personal settings" and then thats it i have control of the mouse up untill a time several hours later. but it never leaves that screen. when i click on the user account the thing logs right in. i figured since the user account has admin abilities i could delete the defective driver manually but it says i dont have rights to do that.
I had set an account with password protection (administrative account), then had to do a repair and now i cannot get into my folders that are password protected. Now how do take the password off that folder and get access to it?

The office was bought bye us and we demanded a Windows network to be installed. He told us he managed to do this, but he had a Novell background and didnt know that he could set the policys in the w2003 AD. I've posted about this the other day, and I now have reason to believe that a virus is part of the problem. I have an admin account, and every other account on my computer is an admin account, yet none of them can access MSCONFIG, or install stuff. I get registry errors when I try to install, but I can still access REGEDIT.

The only problem is that there are folders from Administrator account of Win2K that I need to access and it will not allow me to access it. I also have a USB connected disk drive and it won't even allow me to open that! I have NTFS.

(It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.
