View 1 RepliesI have an old Sony VAIO (running Win Xp) that I am using a print server. The VAIO is connected to a HP PSC. The VAIO is on a wireless network along with two other laptops. One laptop is running Win Xp and the other is running Vista. Everything was working fine as far as printing went until I reinstalled the OS on the Win Xp machine (same OS). Previously the VAIO would go offline due to hibernation and so if I tried to print something from the Xp machine, it would get in the queue and get printed when I turned the VAIO on. Now the print jobs are not getting in a queue when the VAIO is offline.I don't know what I did right before and so I don't know how to remedy the problem.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new (used) computer with windows XP on it. I have 2 printers attached to it One is Lexmark P3150 that I use for colour and it works fine. The other is a laser HP 4P printer connected to a parallel port and is the default printer. Since getting the XP it periodically inserts odd letters into print jobs, or misses letters. It didn't do this with Windows 98. Sometimes the series of letters run vertical other times they replace letters in the body of the print job.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI dont know if i've got this in the right forum but i've got a WinXP Pro Machine so thought i'd try it here. The problem is that my print queue seems to retain the print jobs although the print jobs have already been printed out (i've seen it retain jobs from 5 days ago). I happens from all sorts of programs. My PC is acting a print server (ie, the printer is connected to my PC via Parallel and i have shared my install of this printer). In the print queue, the status indicates "sent to printer" and Pages "x/x - eg 3/3" however the print jobs remains in the queue and do not disappear unless i manually do a "cancel". If i were to turn off and then on the PC, all these print jobs will print out again without any user interaction. So, can anyone tell me if this is a driver issue or is it something to do with the printer or Parallel port configuration. As far as i know, i've got "bi-directional support" selected but i'm still to find out what modes i've got parallel set to eg. EPP or ECP or both.

When he tries to print, it seems to spool correctly, but never prints. The printer window says printing, and nothing ever happens. He has tried this with 3 different printers, all different makes and models, but still nothing. I have also seen this firsthand.I checked his settings, and it does say to connect automatically to printers, so that is not the issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed a printer in a remote location on four machines. They all run Windows XP (SP2 I think). It works perfectly on three of the machines, but will not work on the fourth for some reason. It installs on a TCP/IP port just fine, and we can view properties and everything, but it will not print at all. I have no physical access to these computers, so cannot provide very much more information about them, but I'll try my best.

This time switching off for 10 minutes and then back on had no effect.I have been trying most of today to correct things without success. I then copied it onto a floppy, put the floppy in my friends PC - same result as before

It sounded as if it was getting the signal from the computer, but nothing would print. Rather than buy new cartridges, which would have cost more than a new printer, I bought a Dell 720. Now, the color prints fine, but I cannot get the black to print. The cartridges are just about full with only a small amount out of the black cartridge.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAll worked as normal Printer icon would print automatically with default print settings; File -Print would bring up print properties dialogue box to select options.Unhooked printer from laptop. Since reconnecting printer, the print icon button reverts to bringing up the print properties box as happens with going File - print. There is only one printer attached - it is shown in "Printers and Faxes" with a tick. There is nowhere to check it as the default printer as it is the only printer. How can I make the print icon button just do straight default prints again?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently had my computer reformatted. Unfortunately, it still has some issues. The first problem that popped up was that my computer "froze" after I clicked to print a Word doc. The screen turned blue (of course, my first thought was I had the blue screen of death), and I couldn't do anything with it, other than a hard shut down. It came back up fine and worked "okay" the rest of the day, although somewhat sluggishly. The next day, I tried opening a Word doc. and the screen turned purple and again a freeze. Hard shut down again, and things worked "okay" the rest of the day.
The next day, I was opening something (can't remember now if it was a Word doc.), the screen blinked and turned the color of our home page, which is a sort of rust. I called our tech person, described the issues, and he suggested that I had a problem with Dreamweaver 8. I uninstalled it, as per his suggestions, and reinstalled it. Things seemed to be working fine, but I now get this error:
DAX Error
Error in TSafeMailItem - MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED. I'm wondering if it could be an issue with Spam Fighter, which I downloaded as per the tech guy's instructions. I didn't get the error message until after reinstalling DW, then checked my email. I do NOT open spam, and the sites I usually go to are safe. I'm not saying I couldn't have gone some where that wasn't, but AVG hasn't found any issues, nor has Spybot.
The title says it all! Basically I have a comp running XP pro and I want to be able to work locally on one user account, with some kind of remote access server running on another XP user account so that the remote account and the local account can be used simultaniously. I know that this cannot be done with XP Pro remote desktop and could be by Windows Server 2003 remote desktop, but i need an alternate solution to make this happen.

For example, if a user calls in asking for assistance with a application, or if we are in need of troubleshooting the machine, we would like to initate a remote assistance request that takes the end user out of the equation so we don't need to walk them through how to send a email/file request.

As the administrator I'd like to be able to run scripts that will give me status on processes running on the remote computers. In particular, we are using Microsoft Backup to do our daily incremental backups for our one shared application. If a user remains logged into the app during the night the backup won't recover the open files.

I am logged in to a machine via remote desktop and another user with admin rights logs in via remote desktop and logs me off because they assumed that I had forgotten to log off or whatever else. Is there any permission setting either in group policy or elsewhere that would prevent a user attempting to connect via remote desktop from logging off an already logged on user? The problem is that both users are and need to be Admins.
