PC Quits And Reverts To Start Up Message

I've a DEll 2350 which recently has new hard drive installed, and which functions very well 90% of the time with Win XP. WHen it ceases to function properly, the screen goes dead for an instant, and a full page of instruction appears indicating that I have 29 seconds toopt for a choice of re starts..including "last good working start up".. or safe mode or" allow the 29 seconds to elapse" and, "wait and see" ( my words)
This did occaur before the new hard drive was installed.. and if I don't click on any choice, eventually it will complete the boot up and the screen will show my desk top. Sometimes it takes only a few minutes: other times it may take a dozen or more "recycles", wherein it goes through the 29 second "wait" period, and the DEll l,ogo appears, and it reverts again to the recycle step... when it does bring the desktop back on, I can usually "stay on line" for hours and suddenly it will go off again.I've just recently added this computer through a router to a newer DEll that has been on DSL for some months and am sure that has absolutely nothing to do with this intermittent.Am I looking at a power supply glitch?.an over heating problem?.

These past couple of days I have noticed that my PC has slow down considerably and everytime my PC is turned on or rebooted, the taskbar would change to a dull boxy grey colour. When I look into the display properties and all the themes have disappeared! I have googled and tried all avenue on the internet to fix this but with no luck. Can someone please help me? Do I have some virus on my PC or something? I have Windows XP on my desktop.

Both usb and ps2 keyboards work when going into bios or using a OS on a disk, yet will not work after windows boots. Every other thing works great usb mouse, joystick, etc. I have uninstalled keyboard in safe mode, then rebooted. I tried a repair with OS disk. No software problems. Running lots of mal-ware protection. Using on screen keyboard is getting old fast. Has been this way for awhile as I keep expecting other problems and then I'll have to do a OS reinstall last resort.But no other problem have surfaced, so I keep putting it off.

I have recently loaded my copy of AutocadLt 2002. For about a week it worked fine, but how I have a problem opening Autocad. If I click on the short cut it opens, flashed up the screens, then closed. If I restart the machine 80% of the time I can open Autocad, but when using it, it will suddenly close. I have reinstalled, and repaired the program. No change. I have booted the system and repaired the autocad from the disk today, it has progressed to 99% but hung up.

My internet explorer wont start!! Actually it flashes up and quits at lightening speed The version which am working is 8x...No add ons is installed in it which can cause this behaviour...I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it but the effect tends to just the same. At the same time the 'Search' button in the Start Menu does not even load up. Nothing happens when i click on it...But the Search button in the 'My computer' still works. i want my Search function back to normal in my Start Menu

In a not updated Version of Windows XP you can run (Start-run) "start"command at the Run dialog just typing it, when you update windows andwrite the same "start" into Run dialog Windows shows a error message >Windows cannot find `start`. Make sure you typed the name correctly,and then try again. To search for the file, click the Start button, andthen click Search.If you are in CMD the `start` command works fine but the problem is thein Run dialog windows doesn’t recognize it ?

I have a user's My Documents folder redirected to a share on our domain controller. The name of this user's My Documents folder is username's Documents. Whenever I try to change this to My Documents, it immediately reverts back to username's Documents.However, if I open a command window and say dir, I see My Documents which is what I would expect.

My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Ever since I removed my old internet security suite, I've been getting the same error message when my computer starts up. I've tried everything I could think of to eliminate it but have had no success.
The error message is as follows:
Windows cannot find 'C: /Program Files/Verizon/Verizon Internet Security Suite/Idx ClnR.exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.
The original problem may have had something to do with spy-bot search and destroy. A while back I denied a change made by index cleaner and made it a rule to deny that change each time it was attempted, thinking index cleaner was a malicious program.
Any ideas of how I can fix this problem.

My Dell desktop will not boot up. I had closed the lid thereby putting it on standby when I tried to go back it was in a state of limbo, it wouldnt come on nor shut off. When I rebuilt my PC (new mobo, CPU, memory & case) evrything went fine. Moved all the hardware from my old case to the new, re-formatted the hard disk, nice clean install of Windows etc etc. Problem came when trying to install software for my USB cable modem. The software included various connection monitoring tools but I kept getting an error message that a particular file could not be found. In the end I decided to use a LAN cable, (LAN drivers came with the mobo) give the cable software a miss - no problems! However, every time Windows now starts, I keep getting the missing file error message. I checked the registry to see if there was any chance of it being a 'run once' type of file but could'nt see anything (although I'm not overly familiar with the registry).As I said this is just a nuisance - but it would be nice if there was a way to get rid of the error message permanently.

Each time my system starts, or if I log off and back on again, I receive an Error Message that says--A newer version of this program has run on this PC--and then it asks if I want to close the older version. I have tried in vein to locate the problem but have had no luck. There is no obvious identifier for ther message (other than a the fact that the message appears in a Windows type box and has a small white circle with a question mark in it. I would appreciate any hints on locating the offending program so that I can eliminate the older version. Am running a P4 2.4 gig, 1gig RAM with Windows XP pro SP2 installed.

Computer is packed with spy-ware and viruses. I've been trying to clean it up and now I'm getting this message on start up. What should I do. The computer won't even start up. He is running a bootleg version of windows. And his setup disk doesn't seem to help. Windows could not start because the following file is either missing or corrupt. windowssystem32configsystem, You can attempt to repair this file by running windows setup using the originally setup CD-ROM. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.

My PC was running perfectly until a few days ago. When I switched on my PC recently, the following error message appeared on the screen:'Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Windows root>system32 toskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file'As I am not a techie, could somebody please instruct me what I should do step by step in order to get my PC going again? My daughter's laptop has sudenly refused to start WINXP. Got the "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" white text on black screen message. It gives the option to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt or "last Known Good Configuration" ..together with "start windows normally" which is the default automatic restart. It says "if a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose start indows normally".

i'm using window's xp. whenever i start my i-tunes program, i get an error message telling me "i-tunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. audio/video lpayback may not work properly." at this point, i no songs will play, and the sound doesn't come through the speakers when i'm watching any videos on the web either. Every once and a while, my monitor will flicker, then power down, leaving me with no choice but to manually shut the pc down. in addition, the desktop and browser graphics have begun to deteriorate. they almost look like somethign from windows 95. i have no idea where to start,

Does anyone know HOW to delete, an error box when I start up Win XP home sp2? I believe this crept into my system, from downloading MS windows screensavor/background theme for desktop, from WIN MS website. I have gone into "search", and tried to find this error in C drive, folders, programs, searhing under "MYWEBS", MWSBAR, DLL, bar, bins, etc. No luck! I think it is located in HKLMsoftware? I did the same stupid mistake over a year ago, and the cox dsl man, removed the error message. Here is the error box:

I have 2 machines behind a Netgear router. The XP Home one can ask for remote assistance. The XP Pro one cannot. When the invite a friend to offer remote assistance link is clicked, the message "A program could not start. Please try again" appears. It comes up with the exclamation sound and the message box claims to be from Internet Explorer.I found a file called constants.js on the machine that had that message text in it...in two places. One of them is NO CHANNEL,and the other is NO Recession I edited the constants.js file and it changed the "A program could not start. Please try again" message so that I could tell that the NO CHANNEL message is being sent to me.

My wife has a 5 year old Toshiba laptop with an XP OS. Over the years , she has updated and downloaded the various service packs from Microsoft. Last night , while watching You Tube, my daughter noticed an error message on the screen (she's 11 years old, and she can't remember exactly what the message said). She turned the computer off properly . Now, when I try to start the computer, it goes to the "sorry for any inconvenience" page.Whichever method I choose to boot- safe mode , networking etc- it goes to the Toshiba logo screen and then goes right back to the "sorry for any convenience screen".

I can't access the "Run" command from the start menu. When I click on it windows brings up a message box saying "Windows can not create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?" Even if I click yes, the shortcut doesn't do anything. I can still access the run command by using the windows button + r on the keyboard. This affects the "Search" and "Help & Support" commands too.

Every time I switch on my machine and try to connect to the internet, I get a dialogue box: Web page is unavailable while offline. To view this page, click connect. When I click connect, I can view the page and don't get the error message again until I switch off the machine. Why does this happen?

I recieved the following message after a forced restart after windows updates were installed: "We are sorry for any inconvenience but Windows was unable to start successfully" My options are to start in Safe Mode , Last known config or normal. Safe Mode is the only thing that works. Also System Restore would not work Also System Recovery from Sony Vaio Recovery Wizard would not work

I have a Dell PC 8250 and over the past two yrs I have managed somehow to increase my start-up time by inadvertently adding to my start-up file. I understand that there is a way to eliminate items in the start-up file but having been to the site, I cannot determine which items to delete without messing up my system. Please advise, and maybe tell me what the basic start up should look like.
