Opening Attachments / Not Legible
Aug 9, 2007I have Windows XP. When I open attachments they open but are not legible. Everything used to be just fine and then one day, bam!

May 10, 2008Windows XP Home Edition, Outlook Express 6, I am backing up to CD the accounts and addressbook using "Export" and .dbx folders by file copy as advised in many places. However, I don't think I am backing up the attachments, By opening an attachment and asking to save it, I found its location to be Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 (32 subfolders) so I suspect the attachments are not also stored in the .dbx folders. IE5 folders are very large and contain other stuff like historical webpages. I have searched and searched but nowhere found any mention of attachment backup. I thought of using Tools/Internet Options/Clear History to try to reduce these subfolders down to attachments only, which I could then back up to CD, but will the attachments get cleared down too

Feb 24, 2007Some but not all attachments sent to me with Outlook Express emails don't arrive in my In Box. When I ask the sender to repeat but use my GoogleMail account, the attachments arrive fine. I'm using a vanilla IBM Thinkpad R52 running Windows XP as supplied and fairly ordinary applications. I thought it might be my virus software (I was using Super AntiSpyware which is quite aggressive) but I've deleted this and all other anti virus ware and the problem persists

Mar 15, 2007This PC in the office, has Outlook Express installed & set up. Here's the thing - on the Inbox view it shows almost every email as having attachments, has the little paperclip icon next to the sender's name and all. However, on only three or four of those emails are the attachments available - on the rest that show attachments in the folder view, nothing is shown when opened, and the 'save attachments' option in the File menu is greyed out - not available. Basically, to OE the attachment simply does not exist beyond the icon in the folder view

What is actually attached is a long text file, The initial part of this text message .Is all the Email Properties, including a couple of previous forwards followed by what looks like the character encoding that should be the jpeg Image. Aug 26, 2006i am in desperate help with msn and other applications but mainly msn wen i try to send webcam or goto webcam settings i get about 8 error messages saying it cannot oopen because of MFC42.DLL i have had this problem for a while now and it used to be worst the others have gon but this one just seems to be sticking i would really really appreciate some help with this one as i know their is nothing wrong with the webcam as i have used it on other computers like my laptop for instance where their is no problem at all

In the list of programs on the new Start menu was EXCEL.EXE, but the icon was wrong and when I clicked on it, it couldn't find Excel. I went to the properties of the link and changed EXCEL.EXE to Excel. It still not working, I deleted the link.Now whenever I click on an icon on my desktop, the system tries to open it with Excel. Apparently the change screwed something up, but I do not know how to get back to where I was before.

Jun 6, 2007When I came on the computer today, the first thing that came up was a warning from Lavasoft Ad-Aware telling me something about a regkey being modified and then it said Allow or Block. I figured it was a bad thing, so I clicked block and went on. My Firefox was working fine. However, when I went to open my iTunes, nothing happened. The only program working for me was Firefox. So, I restarted my computer and all of my icons to different programs showed up as errors (I don't know if that's the right word, but none of them would open). So, since I couldn't run any of my anti-virus programs to do a scan, I went online and ran the Trend Micro House Call scan. But, each time I do it, it gets to a certain point and then my taskbar disappears and I can't get it back.I've tried searching everywhere for a solution but they all require me downloading something which doesn't work since I can't open any windows.
