Feb 1, 2006When moving around on computer, not on net, the computer in general, everything has slowed down...making attachments, typing in Word, viewing programs list etc.I have done a clean up and defrag, have Norton, did all windows updates yesterday, what else should I do? Still have the problem.Could this be security related and maybe a bug, would that slow down whole computer not just internet? Should I run all scans and post a Log on security or here?

Sep 1, 2009Unusually slow system; unsure where to go from here.machine runs very slowly for the processor and for the amount of processes running.There is some degree of visual skipping/slowness,it is particularly apparent with audio and visual media. Even the startup sound is very drawn out and is characterized by a long, skipping echo. Music skips randomly and even alert noises, (such as the one heard when ending a process) has the same skipping/echo. This happens even when there are few apparent processes running and very little CPU usage (such as 5%), as well as when the system is overloaded (which happens remarkably quickly for the 20-30 processes running).

Rather, when I start an application that would normally use a bit of CPU, it now spikes the CPU.In particular, 5 year old game called Neverwinter Nights is now unplayable and spikes up to 55% CPU usage on both cores even though it should only hit one core. The Earthsim program also does the same. So do other applications.

Dec 23, 2008This is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
Computer Running Slow - Not Just Internet Slow But Onboard Slow
May 10, 2010Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. Jun 22, 2008My HP Pavilion 750n is running really slow online, and I have a high speed connection. It's not too bad when I'm not on the Internet, but websites open really slow, and some of them just quit before they even load. I was gonna run a registry cleaner, but then I saw on here that it isn't recommended! I was using Norton, but recently uninstalled that and installed AVG, which I ran as well as Adaware; neither found any major problems. I posted a HijackThis log a few weeks ago, but no one responded so I assume there wasn't anything there either. My used space is 19.1GB and my free space is 50.6, so I don't imagine that is the problem either. I'm running Windows XP. Any suggestions on how to speed this thing up, or is it just suffering from old age?

I am not down loading any programs or anything I want to keep, also I daily run ADIOS to clean out all the cookies, temporary internet files, etc. I have deleted all programs that I am not using, also I am allowing SYSTEM RESTORE to to have only 1022 MB of space.
