I'm trying to get my Nvidia Display settings to save under the Change Display Configuration panel and every time I reboot they seem to revert back to regular settings under another resolution.I am using a laptop with a LCD monitor and I'm trying to get the "Only use one display (Single)" setting to stick, and it works when I hit apply but after the reboot it gets removed back to (Clone).

I get a window that says "Setting up Personalized Settings" when I logon to my account, or any others I create.I've Google'd it and the only one I've found was not fixed, and all the others are talking about a file called loadwc.exe, which does not exist on XP.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.

The control software that comes with my Asus MB called AIsuite and also the Nvidia GPU monitoring program. Both use those fixed graphical interfaces (ie not windows standard) a bit like winamp etc. Both show very messed up interfaces on my system with icons in wrong places, text running off edge of GUI etc. I was suspicious it was to do with my windows font settings so removed cleartype and insured size was set to normal. However, the glitches still show up.

They are configured for a vertical span configuration in the NVIDIA drivers (updated to the latest version of the driver)When I turn off the second monitor which I do sometimes to save power, either windows or the nvidia drivers auto-detects that the second monitor was powered off and changes my video configuration to a single monitor configuration, resizing my desktop back to fit on only one monitor. When I turn my second monitor back on, I need to manually re-configure the video settings every time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer has gotten to where it no longer will save folder settings. I don't know why this would happen? It no longer opens my folders full screen and all of the folders are the same style. I go to my pictures folder and set it to view thumbnails. As soon as I back out and go back in, they are back to tiles. Every folder is in tiles no matter what I try to set it to. It got this way because I set it to save every folder as that option because, before, it would randomly change the view setting to any folder. One day, my pictures would be thumbnails, the next a filmstrip, the next tiles, and so forth without an increase or decrease in the amount of pictures there. I even change the "type" of folder to something different: Music, lots of pictures, few pictures, documents, etc. Still the same settings.NOW it is getting to where it won't even save the order I put my quick launch icons in. I had them in the same order for over a year and now they won't stay that way. Nothing has changed?Oh, and it's also giving me a blue screen of death when I try to open pictures with Windows Media Player.Virus software and adware software don't find anything suspicious.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI decided to run a registry cleaning programme a couple of nights ago without setting a system restore point, which may be one of the dumber decisions that I've made as of late.Right now, Windows XP is not saving my settings and acting rather peculiar.In particular:
-When I boot up, it does not remember to display the Quick Launch bar. I have to put it on manually every time.
-My folder toolbar settings are never saved - when I click on My Computer, I want the "Address Bar" toolbar to always show. As soon as I click off My Computer, the setting is forgotten and the address bar is gone.
-When I boot up, my desktop icons are arranged by name and not in the custom arrangement that I created for them.
-Most frustratingly, once I arrange my desktop icons back into the order I want and align them by grid, they instantly revert back to the old "by name" settings as soon as I make any kind of application change. (I'm not sure I described this well, so I'll give an example. Go into My Computer, click on Tools, Folder Options, View. If I check any box or make any change and hit "apply," all of the icons revert back to the by name order and my 'align by grid' setting is completely forgotten).I have tried restoring my system to a variety of points within the last week, but I have had no success; whenever I try, Windows XP gives me an error message upon booting up.I am quite certain that this problem is somehow linked to the registry alterations I made a couple of days ago, but have no way of knowing for certain. It appears that my Windows XP is locked into a particular brand of settings that I do not want. But I could be quite incorrect about this.I hope have described this well enough that someone can come along and help.
i need to do a clean install but half way through some pc games is it possable to save them and restore them to a clean hard drive if so how.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning windows XP Pro and networked wirelessly to a windows XP home with admin priveleges. Both have latest service packs. Had same problem as some past threads regarding recalling folder view settings. Followed that advice and deleted the recommended registry lines + applied Kelly's BAG Limit fix. Reset individual folder views/settings and these now saved OK. EXCEPT as follows:Through My Comp I open Drive C: and window opens at size/pos saved but does not remember that I set VIEW/FOLDERS for a split pane.If I then continue and expand, say, My Documents, or any other folder which has had its view defined and saved, then close current window, the next time I open a folder from my desk top (eg My folder, Download, etc) it opens at the size and view settings of the "Drive C:" window. I can then reset that window view again until I repeat steps above when it is again lost.

View 23 Replies View RelatedThe monitor started showing graphic distortion. I ordered a new monitor but had the same distortion on it. I updated the ATI drivers but it did not solve the problem. In trying to trouble shoot the problem following directions on the ATI website, I changed all the graphic settings to the lowest and slowest available. This got rid of the distortion but the settings need to go! Now I cannot open the display settings.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAll my text/font display settings seem to have changed. I downloaded a freeware program today called avi2dvd, to convert avi video files to iso files for burning to DVD. I tried it out, got frustrated with it, and uninstalled it. After I uninstalled it, I went to check my email. That's when I first noticed that all the text in my yahoo email account had changed - it seemed smaller, like it was at a lower resolution.
I clicked on a few more pages and it was the same for all of them - the text was just not as...smooth. Not as readable. And definitely smaller. It's not just a font size thing, I'm not that much of a newbie, I tried enlarging the font and it's definitely a resolution thing, not just a font or size issue. Then I tried out some other programs, and found out that the problem was system-wide. I use a writing program called Final Draft, and the text in that is also less readable.I found one program that hadn't been affected: IE all my web pages display fine in Explorer.

I tried restarting the system to get the old configuration back, but the virus just installed itself again. I removed it again, using instructions from Systematic Antivirus and now it's really gone. Some of the settings were still weird though. So after hours of searching the help topics on Microsoft I managed to fix 1 & 1/2 of the problems I had/have.

(You know when you right click on the desktop and select properties.) That's all fine and dandy, but here's the other 1/2 of my problem: I can't access some of the features in the tab. (I have Windows XP Professional, by the way.) I can't click inside of the background list and it's shaded a sort of brownish beige color. I also can't browse and do anything with the position setting. I can however access the customize desktop and color features

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have stopped some services running to speed up my computer but I have noticed recently it keeps reverting back to normal start up and I have to go through unchecking the services that are not needed again. It may be since I installed 'iplayer' from BBC website which uses the Kontiki p2p network. This uses a utility called k services and k host which runs in the startup. I disabled them as they connect to the network even when the program is shut down. How do I stop ms config reverting back to normal please?

I have very little installed bar the few essentials.I'm not a huge fan of the XP theme so I have switched it to the classic theme. I also have a dual monitor setup and have my right hand side monitor as the primary, with my left as the secondary. Consequently, I change the position of this in the desktop settings area so I can just move the mouse left to get onto the second monitor.All was fine until I installed McAfee AV 2006 after which, whenever I reboot, my theme resorts to the Windows XP theme and my monitor settings are lost. I've tried removing McAfee to no avail and Google searches don't find anything.

View 7 Replies View Relatedtonight i was playing a game and for some unknown reason it unexpectedly quit, i was a bit annoyed so i switched off the computer without shutting it down properly. but when i switched it back on a few hours later it started up normally, but then when i logged onto my username (out of 4) it started up to the default settings for a user, for example background changed to acer one, start menu favourites lost and internet explorer settings lost (eg. favourites, icons). And to make things worse, i found out later that when i went into my documents from the start menu, all of my files were not there. but after further exploration, all my files were still there but were in my folder in the documents and settings folder. but it must have started up my username from a TEMP folder in the Documents and Setting folder. Also when i log into any of the other 3 user names, all the settings are how they are supposed to be and nothing is different. please help!!! sorry if this was too longer message but i couldn't condense it any more!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my desktop resizing itself after reboot. After rebooting, the left side of the desktop has a large black border that is 7" wide. The rest of the desktop then is not displayed properly size wise. Things on the right are not visible due to that left sided problem. I'm unable to take the cursor any further than where that border is. It's as if that area of the display doesn't exist. I've discovered if I right click the desktop there is an option called Graphics Options. There are two sub menus with one being panel fit and the other is rotation. To remedy the size problem I click panel fit and choose either full screen (no border)or maintain aspect ratio. Click the option that doesn't have a check mark beside it. There seems to be no correct choice in choosing this because both options do work. Always choose the opposite one. I've found the panel fit settings are located in my intel graphics media accelerator driver area.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to adjust the brightness of my monitor other than using the Menu/Controls that are on the monitor (using a SyncMaster 172n). I calibrate my monitor using Pantone Huey, having set the brightness / contrast both to zero, but it is still too bright.
I went through the Control Panel > Display settings but didn't see anything. Maybe it's hidden somewhere?
