View 9 RepliesI have an XP pro machine that takes forever to release memory. I have several applications that when they need over 100 MB seem to hang the system, when I open task manager I can literally watch the memory count slowly back down to zero. Is there anyway to solve this problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI began to install latest drivers wireless net, AGP Card (then reboot). I installed the latest ones for my nForce2 board and restarted. Only for XP to hang during startup. Numerous cold-restarts, still hanging So I tried each Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config etc, to no avail. During safe mode it would display the driver files it was loading, the last two (from memory) were nv_agp.sys(nvidia?) then mup.sys when it hanged. So I then tried repairing/reinstalling XP numerous times, and each time it would run fine till mb drivers were installed, with and without SP2. Same problem.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have done a fresh installation of XP Pro SP3 but my firewall (Sygate) and the Wireless icon (in the toolbar) takes about 1 minute to load/show up. Prior to doing the fresh install, these used to come up/display immediately. I have the latest windows updates (i guess as of a few days back). Some details which might be useful:Actually before it share the details may i request a freeware which allows capture of text from dialog boxes. I have tried ctrl+C and vaguely remember someone sharing a tip sometime back about some freeware for this... Lesson learned. Should bookmark things or download them to a safe folder rather than temp Am using WZC though i have installed the latest driver from Intel's site [Intel (R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (driver version used is 13.1.1.1] Do not have any junk in my start-up other than Sygate and anti-virus.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEverything was working perfectly until the other day and all of a sudden a program I have been using...Ulead Video Studio strted hanging up. I rebooted and it kept doing the same thing. I decided to uninstall the program and reinstall it but it took forever to uninstall it. Then I tried to reinstall it and that took forever as well. Just to make sure it was not a problem with that particular program I tried another one and had the same issues. I also noticed that my boot speed was a lot slower at start up....not the initial boot but when the programs were loading ie. Norton AV and firewall. My computer seems to run ok when you start a program but the major issue is installing or uninstalling an application. I ran windows update and even that took forever to install the update. I ran Adware and virus scan and there are no problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install winxp on a sempron 2600/ecs mobo. The copying of files after the format is extremely slow.At times, it seems like it is stopped. I eject the cd, and put it back in, and it starts again. It stops at about 38%,and then it copies nothing. I think I left the computer for 1 hour, and it was still at 38%. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is it a bad controller? Mobo Issues?

I have run into a snag. After installing Trendmicro I started having problems. After the install it took forever to load, and when it did I get a warning that I have no virus protection. I removed Trend with it's own removal tool and installed AVG Free, I get the same thing, The resident shield and email won't start. I install Vipre and the same thing protection is turned off and won't turn on. I have cleaned the registry of all norton traces, avg and others. I have did a scan with viper while it was installed and found a few items that I cleaned. I'm at my wits end and have never seen this happen before.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently did a reformat and clean install of windows (to get rid of all the dell bloatware that came with my laptop, clean the registry, etc). Problem is, now programs are opening really really slowly. For example, photoshop is taking a super long time to open, it used to be much faster.Internet/Firefox seems to work fine, but in general I can tell something isn't right. I'm pretty confident it's not a virus/malware problem, as I just reformatted, did a new install of windows, and have had zonealarm running from the start (and yes, zonealarm was running all the time previous to the reformat).

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn my computer on there is a long pause/ delay before windows initiates at start up. It lasts about 1 min until Windows finally boots. Immediately after Windows starts up a window pops up titled: Windows Installer - Preparing to install. This started all of the sudden tonight, not really sure why or what caused it but has anyone ever heard of either of these errors? I have ran an updated version of Adaware6, AVG Anti Virus, Ccleaner, CWShredder, Ewido, RegCleaner, Spware Blaster, Spybot. Also, I have been using Avg Free Editon Virus Scan and Windows Firewall and still managed to get 2 viruses today while they were running. Can you recommend a top of the line virus scan and firewall. I have been told that Pc-Cillin is a good virus scan because it has an integrated virus scan and firewall.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was using my comp yesterday and the right & left click functions of the mouse stopped working in IE. They worked fine on the task bar. I rebooted and it took almost 15 minutes to come back up. CPU usage is at 100% all the time. Needless to say it barely runs it's so slow but everything seems to work. I rebooted into safe mode and cpu usage is normal but I can't seem to find the hang. I also ran msconfig and disabled all the startup items and service items, XP seems to start. things occur normally up to the splash screen, but just after that is where it hangs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been racking my brain on this issue for months with no success. So I have a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ processor running on a Gigabyte mobo (I can get the model no. if needed) and a BFG GeForce 5500 AGP card. I have 2 Crucial DDR-333 512M sticks and a WD 80GB SATA drive. Now when I run Windows and basic apps(IE, Outlook, Firefox, etc) But when I run a few games like World of Warcraft, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth, etc. Occasionally it will just hang the PC. No error, just looping sound and freeze frame.
I have a Pentium 2.7gHz, and Radeon 9550. A short while ago, my Pc started to hang (at random times, usually when I first turned it on in the morning, it would hang at the XP Load screen, sometimes at the logon screen, and other times just during normal use.)
This problem became more prevalent, so i decided to try a repair install. It now hangs during this install as well. This computer is currently useless.
Is there some way to understand what fails and why xp hang up on the latest closing screenù?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a HP computer with Windows software and starting yesterday it started to hang up and stall. We have to manually turn the computer off and back on and it takes several minutes before it comes to the main screen. I did a system restore, turned off the screensaver, ran a virus check with Norton 2004, and it is still occuring and has hung up 5 times today. We do not have internet access to this computer, so I do not think there is a virus on it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn starting up my computer, after the Windows screen with the 'flashing' bar lights up, my computer hangs for about 60 seconds with a blank black screen before my desktop appears. Now the strange part. I've just installed a DVD burner in the slot where I used to have a CD burner. On installation I started up my computer with the cover off, and Windows started immediately - no hang at all. On replacing the cover, the hang is back. Co-incidence? I don't think so. I thought it may have been software related but now have no idea whatsoever.
