The built in NIC card stopped working so i recently installed a new one, and when i went into Msconfig to shutdown some programs it said "i did not have administrative right/priviliges" so the changes that i made did not take effect. My computer is Running windows xp home edition. It is a pentium4 2.93 w/ a front side bus of 533. It is also an HP compaq computer. I reformated the computer and reinstalled XP using the hp recovery prompt when you first startup the computer. Then i ran the windows updates and service packs on it and installed norton and adaware. Now after doing all of this stuff i am no longer able to make changes through "msconfig" I checked the administrator account and it said that i was indeed the administrator with no limits, yet i could not make any changes.
I have been using a my FireLite (Model USBFL840) for a few years on my Toshiba Satellite P25 S526. In the past few months when I connect the firelite to my computer, I get a message that states the USB mass Storage Device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port.At that moment, the only option is to unplug the device and reset the port.I have 4 high speed USB ports and Ive tried it on all of them with the same results.
Speed fan registers one of my SataII drives at 52-54degrees!My other two WD 320gb drives all register at 30-32degress. This is not where my OS is located. Whats wring here? WDC WD2500JS-19NCB1 Drive is less than a year old. getting Warning: Unknown attribute 190 is below the average limits (63-100).
I want to restrict access time of one of the limited users on the home computer running Windows XP. Can I do this as administrator? I saw some instructions posted earlier but I don't know if they were for Windows XP.
Everytime I boot I get an "Administrator has prohibited access to CD/DVD DRIVES and removable storage devices" All of my USB ports and my CD are greyed out with a red circle and bar symbol. I am running XP Pro with SP3. I am the only user of this computer and I did not restrict them. I have gone in with the secret administrator account and it is also locked.
Normally I reinstall windows when I run in to this problem, 9 times out of 10 caused by a virus. This time I decided to try and restore policies and get rid of the virus by hand... but I couldn't find a guide telling how to get these policies back! Has anyone created a guide or done this before? I figure if the rights can be taken away, they surely can be given back.

I am trying to edit my start up with regedit on xp pro this worked about 2 weeks ago and now it says i am not the administrator has anyone any idea about this maybe virus tryin to stop me stopping its start up
I am trying to run cmd.exe with admin privileges, but I get "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I get this error on two of my three XP PCs. I was able to run this last week on at least one of the PCs where it is now not working. I can't find any obvious reason why it no longer works. Any suggestions what to check? ADDITIONAL INFO1. All three computers are running the same firewall/virus software. 2. All three are XP SP3 and at the same MS patch level.
How do I remove the administrator from the gpo. I listed a number of programs for the users that is allowed. But now i limited the administrator account also. Everything I specified for the user is now applicable to the administrator. I use windows 2003 server.
I have a machine running XP pro on a LAN acting as a peer to peer server for a real time accounting system.here is the kicker, recently I noticed that I could not do "windows updates"... the error that i receive is:"To install updates from this website, you must be logged in as an administrator or a member of the administrator group on your computer". Well I have only two users on the actual machine. Administrator and ADMIN, both of which are members of the Administrators group. It does not matter which one I am logged in as.I cannot open it, and when in explorer and I wave the cursor over it, it says "directory empty"... Do I have a "bug" infecting my machine?
I have set a group policy in place with locks down a users ability to make any changes & the last thing I removed was the run start button so now I can't run the gpedit even as the administrator. Is there another way to do it when I have no way of running a command prompt?
Major problem with my computer. Whenever I start it, a windows log in screen appears with username administrator and asks for a password. I have no idea why I am getting this now and how do I know what the password is. This is our home computer and we cannot use the computer because we can't get past this log in. We don't use passwords to get on our computer.
I log on with Administrator and no password. Is there a way to change the username. I know I can add a password, which I will do when I get a better name.I created a different username/password combination but they don't have any of the settings carefully created for "Administrator."
I recently went into safe mode for something but I accidentally clicked on the Administrator account instead of my usual one (my username). I didn't do anything while logged in that account and quickly rebooted. Today, I noticed that there is a new entry in C:/Documents and Settings named Administrator, created the same day I went into safe mode. It has things such as Owner's Documents, Desktop, Start Menu, Application Data, Local Settings, etc. (much of the same things All Users and my user name folder has).My question is, is there any way to get rid of this - I'm assuming it's a new account - safely without harming anything in my computer? Is this something I should even be worrying over? The entire folder size is only around 16mb, but like I said, I can be obsessive about things like that.
I have used my own name as Administrator and deleted the original administrator account in my Xp. Now my bluetooth software refused to be installed and kept saying I do not have administrator privileges. Is there any way to revive the original one?
where is the Administrator Password in my XP home?.when I go:- " control pannel, user accounts, computer administator, create password " all the fields are empty & I presume there is no password set up.And yet when I need to use "Recover" in my XP CD, it says type "Administrator Password" which I have never entered when I installed XP & whatever I do I can never use this Recovery & start my PC.
My brother was on the phone to India (HP) and a tech had him "repair" the op sys.Ever since then his administrator folder has been gone. We did a full install of the op sys after that and I thought the folder would appear after that, but it's still gone.Does anyone know what happened to it?Or how he can get it back?
i have XP pro I have one limited account and my account is Administrator. Now when I use Ineternet Explorer and select internet options on the tools menu, it says that it is restricted and the see an administrator. I am not sure how to set this back to default settings.
I created another user on my XP home edition machine to isolate "business"
Logged on as my alter ego, I needed to open a Visio file. It asked for the master disk, and I proceeded to install (even though Viso is already installed for me to use as the prime user). I got a message that the Administrator had blocked this kind of activity.
How did I block it? And more important, how do I unblock it?
i just installed windows media player 11 and wastold restart after finished installing now when i go into play some music it just says log into a adminidtrators account or group and restart to finish installation when i am the computer admin so is there another administartor and how do i get into it so i just want it installed.
A result of not knowing what I was doing. I added my wife to an account of her own and at the same time changed my account to a limited account so our accounts would be the same. Now some of the programs wont work because there isn't an identified computer adminisrator How can I get the computer administrator back
Recently, I have not been allowed to download some software because I am 'not the computer administrator' but I'm registered as one. When I first installed WinXP, I put myself as the administrator. What do I have to do so that I will be recognized as the administrator and then I can download these programs
My User Account lists me as the administrator but for some reason I can't make changes under Internet Options/Tools. I have windows XP on an older Sony VAIO. The only other User Account is Guest. Because I can't change the settings under internet options/tools to allow active X installation, I can't get the fix for quickbooks to allow me to run it.
Ok guys my problem is also involved with video games. I tried to install Steam (a program that runs Sierra games such as Counter-Strike) but when i try to install it this thing pops up "You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please return this installation from an administrators account." Ok guys I also tried to install this game "World Of Warcraft." I tried to install both these games but the computer keeps blocking! When i try to insteall Steam that note pops up (see above). When i try to install World Of Warcraft, the nstallation bar stops and remains at the middle. I left it installing for the whole night last night. When i woke up the bar is still at the middle , like 50%. Ok so anyway, all of this is because of the Administrator access problem. I have checked other topics that relates to this problem but it didn't solve my problem
i have always been the administrator on my computer. now it does not recognize me as that...actually it doesn't show anyone as the adminisrator. it shows my account as limited
I'm trying to obtain write access to a shared folder on my computer via the following command:code: C:Documents and SettingsXXX>net use x: \127.0.0.1docs /u:XXXThe command completed successfully. If I go to My Computer > X: (Where X is the new network drive) I have read access to the files. However, I do not have write access. (For example, if I try to create a new folder)If I'm logged on as 'XXX', which is the user whom the folder belongs to, why do I not have write access to the folder when accessing it as a network drive?I am able to write to the folder if I go to C:Documents and SettingsXXX.docs but not through X:...
