How to change the default F Lock Function of a MS Wireless MultiMedia Keyboard (1.0A) from off to on? This simple key is very annoying to use, as the function keys are unable to be accessed without first turning that on.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince installing Windows XP SP2 (upgrade from SP1) I noticed that Standby does not function. When I manually go to Standby, or if my laptop tries to go into Standby as per the power management settings I have set, I get the following message: "Standby has been prevented by the Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard device driver. You may need to install an updated driver."
Any ideas on what I can try. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard in safe mode and rebooting to reinstall the keyboard drivers. I have also checked my BIOS settings, and tried resetting the power management settings. I have even updated my ATI video adapter drivers. I noticed the problem shortly after installing SP2. There are no updated drivers available from Gateway for the keyboard.
Why should a computer reset sometimes when the Num Lock or Caps Lock key is pressed? I have tried turning Num Lock off in the Bios to see if that would help. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
My friends keyboard is not working. When she turns the computer on no lights come up on the keyboard. Have tried another keyboard and still the same. Unable to get into the computer to check bios etc as there is a password on the account.

First 2 for the intended ini, the second the old improper, though still currently functional, boot.ini.old. Both of these are on separate partions on the first internal hard drive, and I have tried turning off my 1 external during boot-up as well as disabling my 2nd internal on the "boot settings", with the same results.The default should be the "Graphics" system, according to the Boot.ini
View 10 Replies View Relatedi have windows XP home edition service pack 3. and i use Microsoft office 2003, and well recently it began to pop up and say microsoft office word has not been installed for current user. please run setup utility. Well i only have one user, never had another user created until recently (temporary fix) is there anything i can do, the main user is called the owner, it says its the computer admin, but i guess there is still an admin user, i cant get to that. the only way i can get ms office to work was to create a new user, open all the office programs, export the office registry, and import it to my main user, thats the only thing that works, for a little bit.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI work as a technician in a number of Primary Schools and I have been asked by some of the schools if there is a way to ensure that Number Lock is switched off on all machines before they log in. I have done a few searches on google but have no results that work.I have tried editing the registry however this only works AFTER they have logged in. Disabling Num Lock at boot in bios doesn't work as windows likes to override this setting.The reason i have been asked for this is that the schools have Laptops which the children use and when they are typing in their usernames they are obviously getting a mixture of numbers and letters in the username field.Does anyone have ANY ideas how i can disable the number lock at boot?

Windows Explorer - Norton Utilities/Antivirus - Belarc Advisor - Ewido Easycleaner.Other programs such as - Internet Explorer - SisoftSandra - Aol - Windows XP system Restore - will "almost always" cause the pc to Lock/Freeze with no use of the mouse/keyboard or access to the Task Manager to close the program.The lock-up's appear to occur when I try to run Internet based programs such as AOL - IE but will also freeze with SisoftSandra & the XP Restore facility? Very occasionally I can start/run AOL - IE and all other programs without problems but these occurences are few and far between.

I have also had a problem receintly when starting up where a box opens that says "DWRCST tray icon encountered a problem and must shut down". Also, I am able to log onto my IPS and some websites will open as they should and when clicking on others, a page opens that says Internet Explorer cannot open this page. This also happens when I try to open this website, so I must use another computer to get here.

I'd like the computer to start with the Number Lock engaged so I went into the BIOS and made sure that it was set to always be on. But when Windows takes over the startup procedure it shuts the Num Lock off. Why is Windows doing this and how to I fix it? Registry edit?
