Because of some funky stuff going on with my computer (corrupted files, virus, etc), I was planning on wiping everything off and starting over. Much to my dismay, I found that one of my darling children had peeled the sticker off the side of the computer with the Windows XP licensing agreement number on it. I know that's the first thing you need when reinstalling Windows XP. Is there anyplace in the system itself to find this number or am I going to be forced to buy another copy of Windows XP?
I am clueless when it comes to faxing. How do I find out my fax number. if someone send something to me. How do I get started with faxing something going out?
Anyone tell me what files and folders to open so as to find the list of numbers for the tcp ports? I did find them once but i have not got a clue on how to find then again.
How does windows system builder licensing work? I need to understand how it works before I decide to buy into it. Lets pretend i'm buying this Here are my questions: How many times am I allowed to install this on the same pc (same hardware)? Does it allow upgrading major parts within the PC without requiring a new license each time? Can I install it on multiple PC's without requiring a new license each time? I don't care much about MS support not being included, but is it still available if i chose to pay for it? If I sold my PC I could sell the license with it (transferrable) is this true? Would I need to re-purchase a license when I build a new PC if I transferred it already.
Pc that serves a file on the network had a static IP address that no one wrote down, the pc had a crash but lost the network card drivers after installing the drivers again, the ip was missing, is there anyway i can find out from the pc what ip address it had before?
I was able to get XP installed using my CD with a only a couple of little hiccups that I got past. Now, I'm trying to change the serial number to his via the sticker on the bottom per the instructions at MS Q328874. I don't know if the problem is that my CD is an upgrade CD instead of a full install or if it's that the solution only applies to volume licensing. Does anyone know if I need to activate the current serial number before changing it to the correct number? Or will it not work at all since mine is the upgrade version?
1) I would like to upgrade from Windows ME to XP Pro on my existing PC. Can I purchase an OEM license instead of FPP license by purchasing a non-peripheral hardware component? 2) What are the non-pheripheral components that can be considered? & 3) What basic system requirements for XP pro to run efficiently?
I want to upgrade the computers at my business in derbyshire, UK. I want to upgrade two office PC'S to XP. They both meet miniumum specs but how much do i need to pay to get the software legally and where would i get it from?
I bought an off-lease used IBM Netvista computer that had Windows XP pre-installed. There is an IBM OEM Windows XP COA sticker. What does this mean in term of license? Is this even legal? If something goes wrong, whom can I ask for support? I have looked at the license page at Mircrosoft but am still confused.
My computer has XP pre-installed, it was a refurbished office PC from a liquidator, so there are no disks. But there is a sticker on the side from microsoft indicating a licence. I also have activated the license with MS. if i want to get a new harddrive, can I use an XP disk from someone else, and use the number on the PC?
so about 6 months ago i bought a windows xp home edition retail (the one with the nice box)... im about to build a new pc e6550, 2gb ram, 8800 gts... my question is can i reuse that copy of windows that i bought? i already used it once when i installed it on my current computer
I installed XP Pro on an old machine for my in-laws (about a year ago). I have now purchased them a new computer, but it came w/ XP Home. I would like to upgrade the new machine from Home to Pro. I will be removing XP Pro from the old machine & reformatting the hard drive. The MS site indicates this is possible, but doesn't mention anything about licensing restrictions or activation. I tried to find the licensing agreement to see what it said about transfer a license to another computer but couldn't find it. I'm also curious how the activation process will go... Will I be able to just do the online activation or will I need to do the phone activation since I'm transferring a license.
In Win 98SE when I go to system properties and performance tab I can see a number free resource%.How do I get this number in Win XP and Win 2000? Does a higher figure really indicate that the computer is doing well?
Recently, Microsoft modified the licensing terms for OEM editions. Previously, purchasers were permitted to apply OEM licenses to their own computers provided the licenses were purchased with qualifying hardware. However, the Windows OEM System Builder EULA now prohibits purchasers from applying OEM licenses to computers they are building for themselves, friends, family members, etc.As explained in the revised license comparison, "[OEM licenses] must be preinstalled on a PC and sold to another unrelated party." (Emphasis added.) These revised licensing terms apply to all OEM versions of Windows currently sold, including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Please keep these revised terms in mind when building your own computers
I recently did an install of Windows XP pro on a few boxes. The key I used is supposed to be a volume license key. As far as I know, volume keys require no activation. However, upon booting up the machines it does in fact require activation. Am I missing something here? Should I just call Microsoft and have them activate them?
I am a newbie and would apreciate any help/advice with my enquiry. I have a problem with the Windows XP Pro Sp2 I recently purchased. I am unable to update/validate it as it states that it is not genuine for home use, & only has a VLK licence.
My friend downloaded songs from her cd's onto her computer and emailed them to me. I am currently running Windows XP, Windows Media Player 10 and I just recently got rid of IE and installed Firefox. When I try to play the songs, they are license protected. It redirects me to the microsoft page to download the license and and error pops up reading "Error: Your netscape browser does not have mircosoft windows media services plug-ins installed." I went to the plug-ins section in Firefox and it is not there. I tried downloading a couple of different plug-ins from microsoft and none of them made a difference. How do I get this plug-in?
I have an unopened (i.e. Brown box, the red seal is intact, no license has been accepted) OEM copy of Server 2003 x64. This has been sitting around since before I came to work at this store. Since the server it was intended for was never built, my boss wants to sell the software so we can at least recoup a bit of the loss. I'm sure the receipt has long ago disappeared and it's likely beyond any return policy as is.
How do I sell this (Ebay, etc...) without violating any applicable laws? Am I still required to bundle hardware? What is the minimum hardware if required?
I'm running remote desktop on Windows XP which ran fine for awhile. Now I get this error. "The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator." The Microsoft knowledge base had this to say
"Cause: The licensing protocol handles the communication of licensing information between your computer and the remote computer. If there is an error in the licensing protocol, your computer cannot be connected to the remote computer. Solution: Try connecting to the remote computer again. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the server administrator"
I'm the server admin, and I can't figure this out. Please help! Where do I check to see if my license has expired? It's such a strange problem because I can connect to other servers in the domain, just not terminal servers.
I basically know how to format my hard drive. I boot with my Xp CD and go through all the steps, till I reach the licensing agreement. It asks me to hit F8 to agree, nothing happens.
I formatted my pc the other day cause i had so much rubbish on it that i thought it would be easier to do so. I normally play yahoo pool so i need java sun for it too work or microsoft virtual machine, I prefer using virtual machine cause it loads easier and doesnt seem to crash. i cant install virtual machine onto my pc cause it says i have the wrong operating system for that version. java sun 5.0 is installed on my pc but not properly and wont load so i went to unistall it and get this message "error transforms, verify that the specified transform path is valid" I'm not sure what to do, I was gonna do a system restore but i cannot even find that on my pc.
I cannot find my system 32 folder!! It is normally in C:WINDOWS but i cannot find it. It may be hidden, but i don know for to look for a hidden folder.

I have lost my system sounds, a game's sounds, and internet sounds. Itunes, WMP, and e-mail sounds work just fine. I have updated Adobe Flashplayer and downloaded K Lite Codec Tweak Tool.
i bought a used laptop w/XP installed and registered. but can't get into system because doesn't have the Admin password Don't want to reinstall everything because we don't have the XP disk. That, too, is gone.
The laptop is useable, but runs like a 400MHz. Slow for 2.4GHz. Takes several minutes to boot up and every window lags. Can do minor stuff such as defrag and shutting off several XP "bells and whistles", but it really needs a serious tune-up. Several of the start-up programs need to be shut off or removed. Also needs its reg cleaned. Also need to check the BIOS. Can't do it cuz it won't let me in.
Is there any way to nullify the passwords? I know on certain pc's, all I have to do is remove and reinstall a pin on the motherboard. This is an HP 2.4GHZ Celeron laptop.
I have an older Gateway system and my original operating system cd is lost. Do you have one or where can I find one. I feel this could really help me on finding out what is wrong with the computer. As of right now the computer will not boot up at all.
