pc has gone back to the logon screen, which is fine, but its asking for a password per user and we have no passwords defined! So I dont know what to key, have to reboot it then it forgets about asking for these passwords which have never been created
View 12 RepliesI have just installed a linksys wireless router onto my desktop computer to add a wireless laptop and for some reason, when the User Logon screen comes up. The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts. I went into safe mode and then into control panel and deleted the passwords for each user acct and now I can get into the accounts but how can I add the passwords again and be able to type them in. We have 3 user accounts on this pc and would like to have them password protected.

However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.
I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters

I have a problem with my Windows XP Pro Fast switching between user accounts.
When I first installed XP I had disabled fast user switching, but I have now added another user profile and went into to services and enabled fast user switching. It works about 50 % of the time, however sometime when I hit Window Key+L it brings up the logon screen, when I click on an account it asks for a password, however I have no passwords on the accounts, and nothing i type in works, and I have to restart the computer. Even when I set a password and it locks me out that password will not work and I have to restart
I tried turning off my computer password, since I am the only one who uses it. But I did something wrong....Windows XP logs on as Administrator, and says I can't log on due to user restrictions. I was able to log on using the name I gave the computer, but how do I disable having to use any passwords, and fix the logon problem with Administrator?

I don't know what happened exactly but for whatever reason, the computer simply restarted itself for no apparent reason and then it wouldn't boot the operating system correctly so I tried to get into safe mode to try and diagnose the problem. I checked the bios to see if any error messages or a log had been recorded but found nothing. Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
This moring when I turned on my laptop a '0x00000051 (0x00000001, 0xL1, 0L008, 0x00716000, 0x000001D6)' Registy Error appeared on a blue screen. It then continuously restarts, never making it to the logon screen.
I have tried to reboot in Safe Mode and 'Last Known Working' mode but the same blue screen appears. As I dont have a XP Home install disk (only boot disk supplied with laptop), I could not repair my registry so I have installed a parallel version of Windows XP Pro that came with another PC. I can access the hard disc so I will be able to back up most of my files BUT I cannot access the Documents and Settings of my user from the original OS because I selected 'Make this Folder Private' when I made the account. Does anyone know of a way to disable the 'Make This Folder Private' option on an account that is on a parallel version of XP?
I went into the User Profiles in the control panel and disabled all the users (thinking this would stop me from having to log in every time). Then, I shut down the computer and rebooted. Imagine the butterflies when I seen the "Logon to windows" box pop up. Nevertheless, I entered my password and it says user has been deactivated or something and says "see your administrator". For some weird reason both of my computers hang right after the logon screen. Its weird because all I have to do is give it the three finger salute and go under shut down and then log off then I'll get the explorer.exe is not responding message I hit cancel or stop terminate whatever it is and it goes back to the logon screen I then logon and it boots into the desktop like it should normally.This is really weird because it happens to both my xp home desktop computer and my xp pro notebook computer. Having looked at a few previous threads on your forums, you seem to be pretty intelligent so I guess this is the best place to post my problem, Recently I purchased one of those quadcore machines (Q6600) with a blank HD, so installed XP Pro + SP2. There was errors when installing SP2 (and SP1, when I tried that), where by it gets so far, then just freezes. Having left it for hours to try and resume, it didn't, and I was forced to end the task. When I rebooted the machine I was prompted to uninstall SP2 as it wasn't installed correctly? This wasn't an option for me, as I NEEDED to install msn IM lol anyhow.When I boot my machine up, just before the logon screen loads where it says something along the lines of "Windows is starting up...", it just stays on that for ages (several minutes!) before continuing to load the logon screen. Once the logon screen appears, everything else is fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I tried to update my families pc to SP2 so I could get all the updates etc. It seemed to install alright, but then when starting up it gave me some drwatson.exe error which ended up freezing the pc. So I did what I thought was safest at the time and that was to go back to a restore point and then maybe try reinstall SP2. BUT, after restoring, windows suddenly showed the password/log on screens. I now can't log on as Administrator OR Guest. Nothing works. I've tried EVERY possible password that I could have used in the passed, but nothing works. So now I can't get into the pc at all. I've tried booting up in safe mode and logging in as administrator with a blank password, but that doesn't even work. I've read a lot about it online, and it seems the only solution would be to reinstall XP. But would that work as a format and erase some of my files and/or settings? Or would it just be like an upgrade?
