Oct 27, 2006i was just using it and all of sudden it crashed and turned off i throat at first the battery was dead but then i turned it back on and it just dose nothing at all i have a choice to load ither windows xp or a recovery console and when i go into the recovery console all it says is this microsoft windows xp(TM) recovery console.the recovery console provides system repair and recovery functionality type EXIT to quit the recovery console and restart the computer .1: c:windows Wich windows installer would u like to log onto (to cancle, press ENTERafter this i pressed 1 and then it said the following:type the administrator password:Now i have no administrator password

Oct 31, 2008Im trying to help my dad get his computer working again. We bought the MCD's for the packard bell computer he owns and first we were struck with a glue part error 5. However we seemed to fix this through a format and re creating the hidden sector. We then ran the CD's and it went seemingly fine through the installation process, then finally we took out MCD 1 as we were told, the PC restarted and we were faced with another issue:'Invalid system Disk. Replace the disk.'Were now stuck on this. I have tried reinstalling again, also I've tried to create another bootdisk just incase but due to me having Vista I couldn't help him much there as it didn't install. I had already formatted and reinstalled the hidden partition and now im stuck as im only 16 and not very farmiliar with the boot process. So I would appreciate any help if you would be able to.

Aug 5, 2010I recently Formatted my Packard Bell XP (SP3) Desktop using the Packard Bell partition to revert back to factory settings. Everything worked ok and things were running fine until I suddenly got a BSOD, saying there was a corrupt or missing Windows Config file (Not sure if it's connected but I did a forced shutdown prior to this).
I checked all connections, RAM, Graphics etc and all seemed ok, I was unable to get into any recovery or safe mode options so I then used my Packard Bell Recovery DVD to reinstall everything. The recovery appeared to be going well and all the files loaded but when the system goes through the 'Windows Burnin' stage it goes to the BSOD 'Page Fault in non Paged area'

Aug 4, 2010My laptop died and I removed the hard drive.I hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive. My goal: I want to transfer all old music, word documents and photos from old laptop into new laptop.

Mar 12, 2006I've been given a laptop (dell latitude l400) which has had the hard drive wiped clean. All i have is the floppy drive.When i run the XP boot disk, i get an error message of ' bootinfo.inf', whereas when i run a 98 boot disk it does at least get further but stops at the C: prompt but cannot get anything else to work.
I have run a Dir check and found that all the hard drive recognises is the command file. Also i have tried an external cd drive but cannot get the laptop to recognise it.

One of the disks needs to be checked for consistency
Windows is verifying files and folders
Checks until 100% completed then shows "Windows has made corrections to file system".
Then goes back to windows is starting up and then log in again. Cannot find a way to break this loop. Is this virus or Windows fixing itself. Problem started out of the blue, nothing like it before (over 18 months).
how can i get rid of it?

Cleaning Up The Laptop
Mar 22, 2008A laptop that I have to turn in soon. I use this more or less as a personal laptop (I work from home). I want to clean this up (remove history, etc) before I send it back to the company. I am not really trying to hide anything, but more prefer to not let them into my personal life. Please do not start preaching about ethics, or that it is a company comuter, etc....
The computer is a Dell Latitude D610, with Win XP. I have done the basics, like the Browser history, but I am more concerned with anything that may be kept in the registry, etc.

Tried again and got a high pitched continuos beep from it so turned it off/on again, nothing. Pressed F8 to try start it up in safe mode but it wont do that either. Aug 11, 2008Yesterday he was trying to copy a DVD. As far as I understand (which is limited), it froze and he turned it off. When you try to switch it on, you get a black screen with a white message. the jist of it says that Windows shut down and that to restart it you need to choose a mode - it gives you options 'safe mode' 'last known settings that worked' 'normal mode' etc. We have tried all of these modes. the most successful of which always looks really promising - you get the blue windows screen, logo and jingle it looks like it is starting up but then dies and the screen goes black. When you turn it on you get the black screen again and go around in circles.

It takes forever to open web pages if it will do so at all, and programs will give error messages and close. The messenger program will pop up showing others I am online although I have chosen all the options not to do that. I am sure it is a virus or some malware/spyware, but I run Norton (up to date) and Spyware Doctor (also up to date) and they can't find anything except a few adware cookies to delete. How do I find out what's causing this and get rid of it? It must have come in with the peer to peer program I would think?

Feb 18, 2006Well, I really did it this time... I decided to upgrade my laptop to XP... backed everything important, did the upgrade...everything seemed good. Worked. Then it notified me that the Norton was not working, & advised me to uninstall & reinstall... so I did... only thing is, I went ahead with the restart! I should of looked for junk/trace files, especially since it said it didn't completely remove it. So, when I restarted it, XP keeps coming to a screen that checkes the file system, fat ,32 scans & fixes files... dump files, etc. I can get to the IBM Bios setup, but I don't really know what to do from there.When I use a boot (maybe the one I'm using is no good) it says C: doesn't exist... I did try to start in safe mode, one of the times it appeared... but it didn't change the screen still did that fix-it thing.

Though, no discs or anything were included and the machine isn't formatted, it loads up to the password entry screen and I can't get passed this because they didn't include a password. Is there anyway to format without having a disk? There's no floppy drive, only a cd-rom.
