I have the Diskeeper defrag program, but now that I have installed internet explorer 7.0, when I run the program, I get an error window:Title: Microsoft Management Console MMC requires Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater to be installed.I hit OK, and it closes the program. I have tried rolling back to IE 6 SP2, then re-installing IE 7.0, but to no avail; The error message is still coming up.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I have an iPod and external hard drive connected by USB.My Dell only recognizes these devices maybe 50% of the time or so, unless I start with the iPod connected, which will work fine. If I start with the external hard drive connected, it isn't recognized until I reconnect it. I had USB recognition problems, and Dell sent me a new motherboard for my Inspiron E1705, which I installed myself successfully. Now my computer recognizes my printer consistently, but the hard drive and iPod are iffy.I disregarded this and tried to add more music to my iPod. At first, it was giving me disc writing errors. Later on, it would either freeze or only add a small portion of the songs. So I started fiddling around with the order things were connected, and now My Computer freezes when I open it. I restarted my laptop, tried a diagnostic in iTunes (with the iPod attached at startup, which opened iTunes, then closed iTunes so I could turn on my external hard drive where my music is stored, reopened iTunes where music worked by iPod wasn't being recognized by iTunes), and it said I was having iPod connection problems.

I installed winXP sp2 After installation, No Network connections.After trouble shooting I discovered that when I change the BIOS to enable on board ethernet, the MOBO recognizes that the PCI ethernet card is there and installs network connections...BUT, when I plug in the cable from the router, It does NOT see the bandwidth. It reads 10MBps when my laptop (plugged into the sme router ) reads 100. Additionally there is a green light on the back indicating that there is a connection AND my router lights up like something is connected.My device manager WILL show the ethernet card and that it is working properly. BUT no network connection (can't browse the I-net, can't connect to other computers on my network, PC is not visible to others on the network. total bytes sent and received remains 0.

It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. I scanned the registry with Registry Fix and fixed all problems. It still starts every time. Netscape has no like problem starting.

I turned it on today and when I open my Internet Explorer I get the message "Page cannot be displayed" My Netscape browser works fine. I called Comcast they ran all the diagnosis from their end and said something got corrupted in Internet Explorer. I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.

A friend of mine installed the Mozilla browser and I didnt like it so I uninstalled it. Anyways to make a long story short..Since then,In the address bar (ie icon), and all my internet links (internet shortcuts) show as an unassigned file type now. So for instance if I drag an http link from my browser to my desktop...it does not show as an ie link anymore (just a random file type). So when I right click my internet links and say "open with" internet explorer it works. However...when I select the check box "always open with this program" it will not change all of my internet shortcuts appear with the "IE" icon like it should
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Service Pack 2, Explorer no longer sees my DVD burner nor my CD burner. I have tried going to an earlier system restore point but that has not worked. You can see the drives in Device Manager but there are yellow exclamation points beside each. I have tried un-installing and letting windows re-enstall and it does, but still have the same problem after it gets through. When I try un-installing service pack 2 I get messages saying if I un-install, a lot of my programs may not run correctly. I am running a Gateway 700 series 1.8 mhz pentium 4 processor, 512 mgs ram, with 80 gig harddrive, windows XP home. I have owned a computer since windows 3.1 and have tried all I know. Can someone please help me? I am just before formatting my hard drive and starting all over!Just for assurance I opened the computer case and checked to make sure the wires were properly seated to both drives and the mother board.

Also, after shutting down the AOL, Windows XP would shut down the parental control program saying that it was malfunctioning. This is a USB 2.0 drive and whenever I connect it to USB 2.0 port, it is not recognized (or "recognized" as an unknown device" ) on all my machines. It however is recognized as a drive and works fine on one laptop which has only USB 1.1 ports.I have tried separately powered USB hubs as well without success. So I don't think it's a power issue.I have even tried deleting all USB devices in Device Manager and let the machine rediscover them.
