My computer is in really bad shape. I have XP version 2002 service pack2.My internet connexion only working in safe mode with networking My anti-virus doesn't work anymore and the others I tried to install either. I've already run in safemode Super Anti-spyware and Bitdeffender, they quarantine and delete a lot of.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to boot up Windows XP, when its at the windows loading screen with the Windows logo, the bar under it the blue thing will move for about 6 or 7 times and then just freeze and stop. Then I restart the computer and choose to boot in safe mode which is the only mode that works.This is the second time this has happened,the first time it happened through safe mode I got the Windows Xp.iso image from microsoft.com, and then used a product key locator to find it on my pc because I do not have the windows xp boot discs but my original copy of XP is legit.
A couple of programs have stopped working on my PC i.e they don't launch when I select them from the START menu.Help & Support does not launch at all - I have searched the web and tried numerous fixes none of which work.Paint Shop Pro 9 does not launch at all but an entry does appear in the Task Manager list of processes.Nothing adverse is listed in Event Viewer and I have tried rebooting into XP Pro with minimal services started.For what it's worth both programs do work in Safe Mode.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy cousin's XP was infected by virus, and it was not able to start in any mode(including safe mode, command prompt,last configuration and etc). I took and move the harddisk to my PC and scaned it using trend micro
housceall. The virus scanner detected and removed several virus. But it is still not able to get into any mode. Once i get into the xp, the XP reboots and it happens to any mode. I also did the repair installation and scandisk, and it did not work.
In device manage it has exclamation by it i uninstalled but if i do add hardware its located w/ exclamation by itif i uninstall an restart its back with exclamation dont work in safe mode works be4 boot when i type in password its disabled on boot.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi did a previous thread of my computer being slow, ignore that one... i got a much serious problem. Someone told me to go into safemode so i just tried to reboot in safe mode. It wouldn't reboot all i saw was a black screen with a mouse cursor so i press the reset button, but this computer is not stable i always haev to press the reset button. Now when i try to restart it jsut reboots again and again. It brings me this blue screen saying STOP:c0000218 {registry file failure} the hive file or sumthing like that and systemrootsystem32configdefault and then it restarts. When i try to go to safe mode i see all these .sys files loading or sumthing and then it gets stuck after like the 20th one. Im on windows 2000, i installed 2000 in cases like these. i found help on a different site. It told me to go to recovery mode, i instert my XP CD and boot it from taht but that doesn't work for sum reason. SO i got my XP boot disks and it works!! BUTTT i go to recovery mode and it restarts and nothing happens! just a plain restart! what can i do!!!

View 6 Replies View RelatedI cannot bootup the computer. It gives me the following error STOP:- c0000218 Registry file failure. The registry cannot load the hive (file) or systemrootsystem32configsecurity or the log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable. Cannot boot to safemode, also tried last known good configuration without success. I have also tried the microsoft KB 307545 fix but could not copy or delete the security file.
I cannot boot my XP machine. In safe mode it also says safe mode in white text in each corner and shows windows build details at the top. I have trying going back to previous good config - same problem. A normal boot just leads to a black screen with a movable mouse arrow - no sign of a login screen. I have tried a recovery reinstall from a an XP pro CD from another computer - this took about 40 minutes and went through all the steps normally (with normal graphics displayed duting the reinstall) but after finishing the same problem is still there.
Only now the windows build info in sfae mode reports SP1 (originally didi not as the computer was supplied with XP before SP1) I am at a loss to know what to do to get the machine wordking without a refomat of the hard disk, whcih will destroy all my data, and my partners stuff too - mostly not backed up, as usual.
im on a Dell laptop with windows XP with sp2..My internet was going fine and then all of the sudden it stopped working. If i restart it works for one or two IE pages but is really slow. AIM works but is also really slow. But I can use both fine on Safe mode with networking. Any thoughts? I'm assuming its some sort of process messing it up.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can only connect to the internet with an XP Home SP3 when I boot up in safe mode. I connect directly to the router, and am running MS Security Essentials, and windows firewall. (removing MSE and rebooting in normal mode still doesn't help). The PC has been offline since March, but I have been applying MS patches and MSE updates manually monthly since. As it will connect in safe mode, I guess that means that the hardware, TCP/IP stack, and Winsock is OK.
Before I start disabling processes one by one (not really looking forward to that), please does anyone have any idea of likely culprits? It is a simple PC, not running anything exotic at all. Office 2007 and Picasa is about the most exotic...... As an aside, I also appear to have lost the 3.5" A drive, but that is of secondary concern.

But mostly it seemed to be the internet that was running super slow. We have run our Norton and Ad-ware (malware & spyware program) and found nothing.Today, I was unable to even get IE8 to open. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a hp windows xp model number a705w and a problem arose with my internet. Whenever i open up any web browser (IE, Firefox, Safari) it won't let me!!! When i run the diagnostics for IE it says there is a problem with my HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP ports (error 12029). I do not have any firewalls besides the normal windows one and sometimes I have gone as far as to turn that off too but that doesn't work either. The wierd thing is that all the web browsers work in safe mode with networking but not in the normal mode so my ISP says there is aproblem my computer.. any ideas what it is or how to fix it?

I have always stayed up to date with my Windows updates deleting cookies, defrags and so on. I am running Avast anti virus and Armor 2 Net firewall. I have noticed over a period of about a mth that my system has been getting pretty slow to boot up and load up web pages. Now I am having to manually start my PC and I have to do it in safe mode F8 and click on debugging mode. If I don't do it this way then everything loads up and then my PC just turns itself off. I have PC doctor and I have done a complete diagnostic test and I have gone to antivirus.com and did a virus scan there as well as with my Avast. I am thinking that I may have to totally take everything out and reinstall everything back in. The only thing is -is that I don't know what to type in to get the whole thing going. Also I have been getting a message but only sometimes that says RTL cannot locate HPOIPMO7.exe (HPOIMO7.exe) I haven't a clue what this is. Might it have anything to do with what is going on. I don't mean to write a book here but there is one other thing, the other day I had a window pop up that said that windows needed me to reinstall my xp software and when I tried it said that the version that I was already running was newer than the cd software I was trying to install and wouldn't accept it.

Hung after desktop image was downloaded and normal desktop was presented. If I moved the cursor to the task bar, got hour glass. Could not get task manager to appear and could not start any program.Booted in safe mode with networking.

An infinite loop it seems. i was trying to start my pc in safe mode, to delete a .exe file from C:WindowsSystem32 which was suggested by a post to fix the "windows not genuine problem". To be able to do that, i ran msconfig and selected /safeboot under BOOT.INI tab. now everytime i try to reboot my pc it asks me to select an operating system (windows xp pro/microsft windows) if i select windows xp then it asks me to select a startup mode (safe/normal/last successful) and then no matter what i select it will reboot it self, and do the same again. If i select microsoft windows (instead of xp) then it shows MS Windows 98 screen and then goes into DOS prompt. from what i have read in some of the threads is that, i have a virus which is preventing my pc to boot in to safe mode, and because i have selected /safeboot from msconfig windows will only boot in safe mode, meaning i am stuck. the workaround these threads were suggesting was to find the boot.ini file and rename it to something else, which would fix the problem, because this file holds the info about in which mode your pc should boot. i tried to rename this file from command prompt (i cant get into windows, thats why), using "ren c:oot.ini boot.ini" but it says file name invalid. i think this is because its a hidden file. then i tried "attrib -h boot.ini", but it says attrib cannot be used in DOS mode.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI went into MSCONFIG and checked the box to go into safe mode so i could run some virus scans and adware scans and stuff like that. Now when it gets to the desktop it has the window that says Loading Windows and then after like 2-3 min. it says password is incorrect and that i should retype it and becarefull of caps lock and stuff like that. The thing is don't have a password. It does this when i boot normally too but it lets me hit ok and hit Cancel without a password entered.
All of a sudden it tries logging me in automatically when I start up but the thing is i dont need to log in. So I try to go back into normal mode and Ican't. I hit F8 during startup and went to the Boot Normally option but it still does to safe mode. What do I do? How do I log on or how do I get rid of this password thing? One more thing, the window that tells me the password is wrong has an OK box but theres no mouse on the screen for me to click it and I can't use the keyboard to select it.
I've got a problem booting Windows XP in safe mode though it works wll in normal mode. I press on f8 at the begining, I do get the menu where I chose the option "safe mode" and then it seems to boot up but after a few seconds all I get is a black screnn and a blinking cursor on the top left (this lasts for more then 15 mins when I get fed up and try again) What can I do?
