I cannot for the life of me figure out why the terminal services is missing in my services list on my HTPC running XP Pro. Terminal Services is on my laptop, which I want to use to control my HTPC remotely. Can anyone tell me how to get terminal services back on my HTPC?

Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance logs and alerts services."
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a small home LAN setup (2 PC's - 1 Windows XP Home and 1 Windows 98SE) and I want to be able to use a terminal server like solution so that I can run everything on the XP machine but be on the 98 machine.I've explored solutions like VNC which work well except I need to be able to log into a SEPERATE user account while someone else is currently logged into theirs on the XP machine. For example, my XP machine has two accounts: anthony and charlene. Let's say charlene is currently physically at the xp machine and logged into her account. How can I, from the 98 machine, connect to the Xp machine and log into my account?

I was able to see the greeting message from the remote computer. But the windows did not respond to the keyboard.Whatever I typed did not show up in the windows and had no effect.How exactly should I communicate with hyperterminal? I did a upgrade overwrite of XP Home to XP Pro on this workstation of mine with the sole purpose of getting Terminal Services to work. I have the service enabled, there are users in the Remote Desktop Users group, the XP firewall is disabled, the computer is set up in a workgroup, and file/printer sharing works. If I try to connect to term serv from another computer, it will immediately fail and simply say "The remote computer has ended the connection" There are no entries in the computer's error log nor have I found any other indication to the problem.

My win98 pc is able to access my other win2003 server using remote desktop 5.1 but could not access winxp. I was prompted that the windows xp pc might be busy but its not doing any task. I use the user name that was added to remote desktop users group and have assign a password. The terminal service is windows xp is already started.

1. I've got to set up a Terminal Server Licensing server and was thinking about putting this on my second domain controller. I was wondering what would happen in this server dies, though. Is there some way of having resilience in this scenario? Perhaps a second Licensing server or something, the way you have 2 or more Domain Controllers?
I did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?

It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.

Also pressing F3 key in Explorer for "Find" function with result close down of explorer.exe.They seems startup for a split second and then close itself without notice. My guess is it has something to do with HTML/DHTML pages.

I recently started wireless networking as well, and I thought some VPN softwares disturbed my wireless networking sometimes and I have decided to uninstall those VPN softwares.I had some difficulties to uninstall them, but at last I have uninstalled them. Now, I cannot see "IPSEC Services" in my services window at all. I can see "lsass.exe" under C:WINDOWSsystem32 directory. However, I do not know how to re-create "IPSEC Services".

When I set BITS, Background Intelligent Transfer Service to automatic & started using services.msc, after a while, maybe days later, it goes back to manual & stopped. When I look at http://www.theeldergeek.com/background_intelligent_transfer_service.htm it seems to suggest that I could set it either way. Since I never seem to get windows update automatically, although I do get them manually, I just wanted to try this setting to see if it would work for me. . Running win xp pro, sp2, dell dimension 2350, 1 GB mem, 2.0 GHz, cable modem. Usually run daily auto scans with MSAB & AVG7. Also have AdawareSE, Spybot, Spyware Blaster.

The last couple of days, my computer randomly gives me an error messages that says SERVICES.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.You will need to restart the program.An error log is being created.Then, a shut down box pops up that tells me my computer will shut down in one minute... and there's a timer on there that counts down and when the minute is up, my computer shuts itself down and restarts.I've run Adaware, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, and cleared my temporary internet files, etc. It's still doing it, and it's getting on my nerves because I can't get ANY work done. It's doing this like ever 30 minutes or hour or so.

I just want to be able to remove some photos and documents and then I can wipe the HD clean and start over.I have used Safe Mode to try and return the Services to their Defaults, but I'm not being allowed to do anything that would help me, either when I log on as myself or I log on as adminstrator, the only 2 users of this computer. My connection to the internet is via satellite, and I assume that company has Permissions to also change Services.

At first it starts smoothly, but after a few mins or an hour it will stop. i don't know why, it stops at random times. and i'm already frustrated of starting the services manually over and over again. Some msi files, such as Apple iTunes updates and the simple usage of Windows Defender, are hindred unless I manually open services.msc via Run, then start Windows Installer Service; which has been set to start with the startup, and to do so automatically.I don't know why it's failing to start, but it is.
