I have a HDD problem with an attempted Dual boot of XP pro (not mine)
The main OS is working great but there is an incomplete OS (XP pro) on the same Drive
How can I remove the annoying Nag at startup cause it loads the incomplete Os first if I don`t choose the other system first
I noticed this about a week ago. Anytime I ctrl-alt-delete to get the processes up and manually turn some things off, nothing happens.

This program is a single sign on solution to allow our users to sign onto all of their programs without having to remember their passwords.Since this program was rolled out, I am getting reports of random computers at random times not being able to use the CTRL+ALT+DEL function.I doubt this is a hardware problem since it is happening to random computers at random times. I honestly don't believe that this is a security problem either since it works most of the time.

Because I teach office applications such as word, excel etc, they think I can fix it for them straight away. I have a little knowledge, they have none so to speak. Someone has pointed me to your site and so I thought I would give you guys a shot. What is happening. - The computer hard drive has got very little on it - but it is running very very slow. I know this is processor memory not storage memory that governs the speed, but I thought you needed to know that bit of info. The email doesn't appear to be working - it says the IMAP setting is wrong but I have checked the email account properties and they all look ok to me. It will log onto the internet - eventually - but is exceptionally slow and will not open any pages - although the browser window opens it keeps saying 'page cannot be displayed'. I have run adaware - but there wasn't much on it - although it did say that it could not delete 'deskadserve'.....
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a very large, corrupt disc image on my hard drive that I want to delete, but every time I try to delete it Windows displays the message "Cannot delete 'filename': it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The disc image is not mounted with any program, and hasn't been for some time. I tried aborting random processes that I thought might have something to do with the file, as well as restarting. No matter what I do, there seems to be something using the file. Are there any tricks to getting around this so I can delete it? Can I check, somehow, to see what program is using it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I start up IE7 "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pops up. The problem is my internet is working for SOME programs. Firefox is working fine, but IE7 is not. Also Steam, Ventrilo, and AIM work fine, but programs such as, UBI Internet, and Gas Powered Games Internet, and almost all games do not work. It says Winsock error problem, but I have fixed the registry keys and followed all instructions.

Plus my Tablet side of things hasn't worked in a long time and I was hoping the clean install would fix that. But my recovery DVD isn't working (could be user error). I DO have apps that I need to keep and I think I've backed them up to my external HD correctly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up whether in SAFE Mode or Normal I automatically get the Confirm Delete Message. This applies to programs, icons, photos, documents , folders etc - I cannot get to any of my work to back it up. I have tried Stinger -F-Force and W32.Blackmal@mm Removal Tools. Ran a full AVG scan with uptodate anti virus and Adaware Spyware. Sorry forgot to mention other things tried. The Pop up message does not appear in the Task Manger either as applications or processes. Each time you respongd NO to negate the delete it pops up again. There is no way I can get to any of my folders or files to burn to a CD as backup without the Confirm Delete message.

The files and folders that I am addressing are: C:WINDOWSTEMP*.* *.OLD *.CHK *.BAK ~*.* _*.* and MSCREATE.DIRI have managed to clean all but one, which is _*.* When I run the search, I get the result of 144 files. I click on edit, select all, then file, delete. I receive the following error "cannot delete file: Cannot read the source file or disk" (please view screen shot). When I right click, I have no delete option, just "open containing folder, copy, and extract. (please view screen shot). I have run AdAware, Spybot, Ewido, and Avg Free. I also have CCleaner, Easy Clean which I have run. I have also used "Move On Boot" by putting the file path in the MOB window and try to have MOB delete the file. MOB says the file will be removed on the next boot.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI de-infected a windows XP system with SP3 and IE7. Once I did that, http no longer loaded in IE. It does not work in portable firefox either. I can type in ftp:// ftp address and IE works. Likewise I
can use https:// and the page loads! What is going on: I tried:
1) Reset ie7 as per MS
2) Removed IE 7
2a) IE6 would not load http either
3) reapplied SP3
4) Repair install win winxp cd.
5) Deleted and re-installed network card
This is where I am now. Still no http://. Since multiple applications are affected, I do not think it is a browser helper.
I'm using Speedtouch 330 DSL modem single port when i changed the ISP cannot browse the sharing Internet but i can use Yahoo Messenger. Windows XP, before 3 computers working fine when i changed the ISP internet card thru DSL modem with single port i cannot browse the other with.

DEL /s /q c:"Documents and Settings"Username"Local Settings"Temp If I use the following it deletes Temp file also. I do not want that. rd /s /q c:"Documents and Settings "BillandWezzie" Local Settings"Temp I hope there is some other way, because I have other folders that I do not want to lose. View 4 Replies View RelatedI replaced the hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 8200 and reinstalled XP Pro. My first attempt didn't work and I installed the OS a second time. Now when I start up I get a screen that asks me which OS I want to start in (both choices are the same - Windows XP Pro). If I select one of them Windows boots normally. If I select the bad version my system won't boot and I get an error message stating there is a "disk hardware configuration problem". How do I remove the second (bad) version of the OS so that I don't get this choice and the system will boot automatically?

It has been solved partially as someone recommended a prog called "Move on Boot" and what happens is that when I r/c>>delete>>and am yold I cant as someone is using it, I c/o Move on reboot and after reboot, I can delete it. I have a dual-boot system (win 98SE and XP Pro)..It was working before the move.. It also works fine on Win98SE.. When using XP Pro, looking at hardware profiles it says the driver's are installed, but it can't find hardware.. I've tried deleting it there and rebooting and it finds new hardware, but still says it can't see it.. I've already tried a different CD drive with the same results (works on 98SE but not on XP Pro.

View 7 Replies View Relatedok, when I switch on, it gets to the desktop which now has 3 lines of little green dots across the screen , a warning triangle says currupt file use dsk chk which I did,tried to do a virus scan but it wouldnt work , Ewido wouldnt scan and now after re booting I get as far as the desktop, my task bar appears, then the screen goes black Earlier I also tried a system restore but it wouldnt restore.

The problem I am having is the home addition that is in-stalled on my computer right now was installed using a retail disc that incuded SP2. I have a older up-grade copy of Professional but It does not have SP2 included on it. Is there any way I can delete SP2 that is on my Home edition right now so I can up-drade it to Professional and then I can download the SP2.
