View 7 Replies View RelatedJust recently my computer started doing the annoying thing where you try to type, but it freezes for a couple of seconds and then all the typing you did finally shows up. It does it when I try to scroll down a page, too; everything freezes for a few seconds before my cursor is responsive again. I have a fairly high-powered computer, and no extraneous programs are running. When I keep Task Manager running, I can see spikey activity in the CPU when these freeze-ups occur. I keep things well-defragged and spyware-free.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded OS on Dell Dimension XPS t600 to Windows Xp SP2. Witgh SP2, it freezes every 6 seconds for about a second and then releases. It is consistent as if it is polling for something. Even the hard drive crunching stops for that second. I have tried installling all MS updates but it did not help.

My problem now is I noticed that my audio would cut out about every two seconds regardless of the audio source. Then noticed that the cpu usage meter mirrored this time interval going from 0% to 35% every 2 seconds.

This is a real problem, I've used Spy Doctor and Kaspersky, it found a few malware and trojans and my system appears to be clean however my explorer.exe continues to crash every 20 seconds, forcing me to launch programs through task manager in order for me to function on the Computer. I've read up this problem throughout google and tried some of the advice thats been given to others with a similar problem as the one im facing with however it still crashes.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows XP SP2. Over the course of about 8 hours overnight, my system clock will fall back about 45 minutes to 2 hours. For example, it might be 8am, but the clock will say 6am until I fix it. As you can imagine, this is pretty annoying. It happens all the time. It appears to be a gradual change, not a big jump. I think the clock either freezes or runs too slowly.

I have reinstalled windows xp and all drivers and got everything working. It is working better than ever ,as my old harddrive was sluggish for some time before it died. But now i am unable to play any 3d games. They boot up fine ,but whenever anything is rendererd in 3d it hangs at random intervals for a good 10-15 seconds then continues for a few seconds and hangs again. I have tried half life 2, swat 4 and ceaser 4. Swat 4 even hangs in the menu screen.

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy problem is that my system keeps spiking to 57% then back down again for a split second every 2 seconds. This causes my system to suddenly pause then unpause again, very frustrating. Everything is affected- video, sound, mouse cursor. At around the same time my system begins spiking, my internet connection goes down(talk about a bad day).so when i restarted my computer the internet connection starts "Aquiring network address" then it gives up but the funny thing is the other two computers in my house which are using wireless cards to access the net are working while my computer which uses a wire to connect to the router is not getting any internet access.i'm getting help for this problem within the next few days but i thought i would put this out in a troubleshoot forum (and possibly the solution) for the benefit of anyone experiencing the same.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's just a blink, but long enough to momentarily freeze the cursor and delay a letter while typing. As I look at the Task Manager Performance graph, the CPU usage goes from 0 to 22 every 4 seconds, creating a long line of spikes. The System Idle Process, which really measures the amount of CPU not being used, is always at 99 when no programs are running. So, it seems like there is something "polling" every 4 seconds and it's hanging me up. I have spybot, adaware, hijackthis, Mcafee firewall and AVG anti-virus. Please let me know what you would like to see.
View 4 Replies View Relatedstays hung for about 52 seconds, then unhangs for 52 seconds, then hangs for 52 seconds, I am running an older Compaq desktop with a Pentium III processor, and a 30 GB hard drive (approx. 11 GB free). The system has 256k RAM.It is running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2 (build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301_1519). It also has Norton Internet Security 2004 (v7.0.6.17) and Norton Antivirus (10.0.1.13) with current virus definitions.Sometime in mid-September, my husband (who uses this machine, not me) complained that the machine was hanging on a regular basis. He bought and installed System Mechanic 5 from ioio. (No other new software or hardware was installed immediately prior to the appearance of the problem.)He found a number of problems, cleaned them up, defragged the disk, but the hanging problem remained..
He asked me for my help several days ago, and using the information gleaned from this site, we've downloaded and run the Ewido 3.5 scan (and fix - both free), and then Xoftspy v4.16. I purchased a registration key for Xoftspy, and we've run the fix utility from that, cleaning up the threats, but the hanging problem remains.I'm attaching a log that was created tonight from Hijackthis v1.99.1 in the hopes that you can save us from this problem! I have better things to do than struggle with this.
My Inspiron 8100 laptop had a hard drive failure - click of death. After replacing the HD (installed with XP and one I know works) the system boots up but very slowly. I should say that it did the same thing before replacing the HD when I was trying to run a disc recovery CD.It's slow right from the BIOS POST - which took about 15mins, and right on throught the WIN XP startup. Took 1hr to get to login and over 2 hours to load system programs. It seems to freeze for 20secs then work for a brief moment. EG I have to hold down a key for 20secs, then 1 character will appear. This brief period of activity coincides with a flicker of the HD activity LED. This was the same pattern even when I checked the BIOS setup on first booting up - so I don't think this is a Windows issue.Running a dignostic is going to be difficult as it would take days to install and run at this rate.
