I somehow got my taskbar to be two lines. I can drag it down to hide it, but I cannot get it to go back to one line. If I click the mouse on the top line of the taskbar, I get the double arrow, but cannot seem to get it to go back to one line.
View 6 RepliesI didn't make a wise decision. I used a clean up program called ET Remover and it was going to remove something from the registry. But when it tried to, it didn't work saying that it was being used by another program. So I went into the registry and took it out. Dumb.I'm not completely sure if that's why I have this problem, but it seems like a likely candidate. Under my taskbar there is a line which is not supposed to be there. I took a picture of it with my camera because it wouldn't show up in print screen. Made it red so it was easy to see in the picture. It has a shaking like effect. If I open a window of something and move it around I can see it moving in the bottom space. I also have a program called windows blinds, but I dont think that's the problem. It's not the monitor either. I ran a symantec scan, but I really doubt that could be it. I also tried a system restore to no avial.

View 11 Replies View RelatedWin XP Home SP2. I have applications that should and did have icons in the taskbar. They are no longer there. Also, when I check the box for having an icon in the taskbar for Windows features like the speaker (volume control icon), it is ignored by windows. I am not a newbie, I know about hiding inactive icons, etc... I do not have hiding icons selected at all. I have checked and unchecked, started and restared the computer and the apps to try to trick windows into showing the icons, all to no avail. This happened when I removed a couple of Security applications: Comodo Firewall and Spyware Terminator. Both had HIPS enabled. The icons were there before I removed these apps, now they are not. I have subsequently reinstalled new versions of theset two apps.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently had to re-install Windows XP, and now when the computer comes back from sleep the taskbar is at the top of the screen and is non-responsive leading me to have to restart my computer every time it goes to sleep. The easy answer would to not have the pc go to sleep, so i tried that, and even when it goes to screen saver mode, after being in that for more than 30 minutes, the problem occurs. Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWith XP Pro SP2, I enable "Group similar taskbar buttons". I generally have my taskbar stretched 2 to 3 rows even so. Sometimes, when I have a lot of windows open, and the similar taskbar buttons group and stack themselves, so 1 button contains 2 or 3 open tasks, I can't get any action out of the buttons that represent multiple open tasks.
Any of the taskbar buttons that represent a single open task are fine. But any buttons that represent multiple open tasks don't respond. I have to do Alt -
Tab to bring a task to the front, if it's one of the tasks on a button that represents a group. Or I can go to Taskbar Properties, and deselect "Group similar taskbar buttons".
I've just switched from 98 to XP. I find now that the window designations in the taskbar for my *browser windows only* are severely and unaccountably truncated. My browser is IE6. Even if there's only one window open, if it's a browser window, only one letter will display. Other windows will properly display the full name. I've turned taskbar grouping on and off with no change. I've also run the SFC utility, with no change. There is no such problem in my Win98 machine, and my security settings (and all other settings) are the same. I don't wish to upgrade to IE7.

XP still groups the similar buttons (e.g., Word doc1, Word doc2, etc.) instead of having these ungrouped.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?

It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI own a Dell M1710 XPS laptop with a SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC card that was shipped with Vista Home Premium installed on it. I had this same problem already while Vista was my OS and actually managed to find a work-around to solve the problem;however it caused more. The mini sub-woofer stopped working and there was a noticeable decrease in sound quality. And at times sound stopped emitting altogether.due to complications with Vista, I was forced to reformat my computer.I have noticed a great increase in FPS in all my games and overall snappy-ness navigating through windows. my Line-In option is shown in all sound applications, but it does not work. I wanted to record videos of my games, and it works (Finally!!!) But no sound.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust built up a new computer. Installed Windows XP Home SP3. Installed fine but couldn't get online. Found out I needed to install the drivers from the motherboard install disk. It installs the drivers but then it has to reboot to finish. When it reboots it goes to a command line promt to make a raid disk. Problem is that I don't have a floppy disk drive in the computer. (Come on, I didn't think ppl even used em anymore.) If I try to take the CD out and run windows, It gets to the XP load up screen then restarts. Unless I run it in safe mode. My question is this:Is there a command i can use in that prompt to save the Raid Disk info to another drive or port. Like a USB port or External Floppy Drive?

I received a Fujitsu Amilo, 80GB notepad running WinXP.
I'm trying to partition the disc into 4v20GB drives. NOw I have tried to use the Windows Doc Management facility - it does not work! You know, when you right click on the Primary partion (there is one only partition shown - 79GB) but, previously with previous computers, when you right click, the sub-menu that appears has a 'make new partition' selection. With this computer, when I right click, that selection is greyed out and unavailable. Now I must explain that the suppliers of this computer did not supply the original Windows didk but rather what they call a 'Recovery disk' What I assume is that this 'Recovery' disk does not supply the partitioning facility.
Are there any command(s) that will output PC information?
