View 8 RepliesI am using Windows XP Professional and I am unsure of what happened to my desktop. I don't recall installing anything to make it change. But now I can see the background color, before the change the icons were translucent and blended in with the red moon theme. How can I change it back? Plus I have the computer set fot adjust for best appearance.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP and when I turned on my computer this morning, my taskbar and start menu weren't the standard blue color, but grey, like an older version. I've tried fixing this in my control panel, but it just says I'm already using a blue taskbar & start menu. I really like the modern look of the blue taskbar.

Every time I put a picture as my wallpaper the color around the words under my icons doesn't blend in with the picture but stays a solid color, so there's like little boxes of blue of white. How do I make those icon words blend in with the picture?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo i'm upgrading my dad's computer right. For some reason I thought he had 2x1gb modules in it already and he was complaining about it being slow. I know its full of spyware and what not, so I went and bought another 2gb kit and brought win xp 64 w/ me.I go and and wipeout the machine, install xp 64 and boot it up. I then realize that this machine only had 512MB in it. I open it up (yah I know should have checked first) and see that his MB only has 2 slots in it. So I end up pulling out the 512 dimm and installing the 2 1gb modules. My question is now, is should I leave him be... or is it actually better for him to run win xp 32 bit edition seeing as we only have 2GB ram.His cpu btw is a pentium D dual core 2.66 GHz, which is 64 bit processor.

So began to try a different approach to recover in time of problem. But have become confused about which is the better approach. Something like Go Back or something like Ghost or Acronis True Image. I am not locked into any of those-but they seem to be most often mentioned.

View 28 Replies View RelatedI am having intermittent, but annoying system problems. I was working this through a previous thread, which stopped getting responses. That thread was located at http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...tem-crack.html The symptoms include: Microsoft Outlook, refusing to open, giving an error message that it requires the windows installer program. Additionally, Firefox intermittently refuses to open, giving memory errors. The CA True Vector program shuts down. What I have done to date: Ran checkdisc, which did not indicate any problems. Uninstalled and reinstalled the CA suite.
View 14 Replies View RelatedIn january of this year, I bought zone labs, zone alarm pro, after using free zone alarm for over 1 year. It ran flawlessly until the 1st of August,2005.After the latest update,(from zone labs) I received an error message (every time I logged on to the internet)that IE 6.0 was encountering errors and would have to close. Then the program would not close due to its inability to respond. I had to use task manager to close it, and that did not always work. The next error message came on right after that and stated that True vector had shut down; as soon as that message displayed another came up asking if I would like to restart True Vector. I clicked 'yes' on this and thereafter my ISP's connection (earthlink) completly froze up. Task manager again used to log off of earthlink. I googled True vector, and found that it was something included in zone alarm pro. They said the problem had been fixed, but I do not think so.After using 'add remove programs' to rid myself of zone alarm pro,and editing my registry to the best of my ability, everything returned to normal: ISP loaded normally and ran correctly. Zone labs will not deal with my problem, (would not even allow me to contact them unless I used their expensive phone support). So, as of now, my system is up and running wonderfully, without zone alarm pro; but I do not feel that winxp, service pak 2's firewall is adequate. What to do?

I have heard when attempting to upgrade not clean install a new os. For example the whole win98 to w2k doesnt fly good because of the fat32 to ntfs deal. so what about upgrading w2k pro with ntfs to xp pro with ntfs? is this a good thing to do now a days or is it still better to just perform a clean install over my existing os. I really would like to keep my stuff intact, but I dont want a xp upgrade. So what type of issues have you guys had upgrading w2k to xp pro?

First of all i'm running windows 2000 (yep...still) and what's been happening lately is that every so often (about twice a day) there is this pop up message saying that true vector has shut down and asks me whether i want it to restart or not. I got the Zone Alarm 6.5.737.000. Now whether i press yes or no the result is the same.

Here is the hardware I have: I had thought that while playing games, wherever there would be unmixed colors, they would now be mixed properly, like steam coming in dark areas in a game, or too many colors not fading into each other properly. But looks like I would need to do with the 32 bit only I guess.
