I am looking for security software and I was wondering if there is something like a bundle with all sorts of useful applications? Like a firewall, virus protection and so on? Can anyone help?

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop and the virus protection and the firewall went down, so they have not worked for a few months and i got a bunch of viruses and spywere. (i don't know how to spell that, a little pc illiterate) but there is no hope for getting rid of it. my internet barely works so i am lucky i can ask right now. any help? i was going to do a full system restore but forgot how, i put all my important files on cds so i dont care if i loose my documents and stuff.

I have a nightmare with my notebook which is installed with Norton Internet Security.On booting up the notebook, a triangular icon(inside with an exclamation mark or an X)appeared on the bottom right bar. The icon appeared with a message to warn me of spyware attack. On clicking the icon, it took me to IE for http://www.spylocked.com/?aff=334 or http://www.wayofprotection.com/soft/. I also found my IE is installed with a 'Security Toolbar 7.1'.
In the Control Panel, I found a program 'Internet Explorer Secure Bar' which I wanted to delete. However, once I click the 'change/move' button to delete the program, it required me to reboot before deleting but on reboot, no deletion of the program took place. I want to know how to delete the program.I also want to know how to delete the icon on the right bottom.
Before getting Win XP, I used Zone Alarm..it served me well.I used to test how good ZA was by using the tests found at www.grc.com. My PC always passed.I just tested my computer with grc's 'leak test' and it FAILED! My PC was penetrated.Does this mean that the firewall provided by Win XP is not doing it's job? If so, should I go back to ZA and disable XP's firewall? (2) I also just heard that Windows Media Player is also a good vehicle for spyware to infiltrate my PC. How can I stop this short of uninstalling the program?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having trouble with popups recently and can't seem to clear them. I updated both Spy Bot S&D and Ad-Aware, and ran some scans in safe-mode and a normal boot. I've also ran scans with Anti Virus which detected a couple of trojans.One of the main problems is a balloon popping up in the system tray (like in XP, although I'm using 2k Pro) telling me "Your computer might be at risk. Your virus protection status is bad. Spyware Activity Detected. Click this balloon to fix this problem". I'm fairly certain this is in fact some sort of spyware itself, and not a function of windows.Anyway, after running all of those scans I'm still having problems,

Well, in the main inferface it only says that anti-virus is on, but i dont see anything about anti-spyware on. However on the website it says the free version gives anti-spyware so I am guessing in the program when it says Anti-Virus, it means anti-virus and anti-spyware right? On the website i saw it did say is gives both. Please help as if it has no anti-spyware, then i wont use it.

incoming connections, it doesn't control outgoing connections. I already have the free ZoneAlarm firewall on my Win2K computers, which works fine. And I could add it to my new XP Home Edition computer. But apparently some people complain that ZoneAlarm adds log files that grow large, etc. etc. so I figured I'd avoid adding another firewall *if* it wasn't really necessary. What's the current consensus, if any?
my security center (from control panel firewall) says that the firewall isn't turned on (in fact, it is currently turned off)and i have no way of clicking on the "on" option because the screen is basically unchangeable.

Critical data was backed up, so I didnt lose anything important, but Im having trouble with my replacement computer.I had another serviceable WinXP computer, two years old, that had never been connected to the internet, so job one after putting it on my desk was to download AVG antivirus. I did that.But when I tried to update the virus database, AVG Control Panel said the connection failed, and I couldnt download the updates. (I can access the internet via IE7 just fine, which of course I dont want to do without adequate virus and spyware protection.) And when I checked my Security Settings, it says that the firewall is turned OFF. When I try to turn the firewall ON, the first error message says:

View 17 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Comodo Firewall and once again, it was too much for me to handle, so I uninstalled it and went back to Windows Firewall until I can find something else. However, as most people experience, it is still listed as my running firewall in the security center. I googled the problem and I have tried everything that I have found to get rid of it and it will not go away! I followed the instructions on the Comodo page and when it comes to deleting the repository file, it won't allow me to. I hit delete and it comes up that a file is still in use. I tried again and again, went under safe mode, and nothing. I tried to run the Command line....it tells me the repository file is not empty and Command will not let me proceed any further.
I tried System Restore, which solved the firewall problem but brought on antivirus problems (I have the Avira free edition). The AV guard will not work. I click "Antivir Guard Enable"....nothing. The definitions remain at the day I restored back to and when I try to update, it says my program is up to date. I go to the Service program under Administrative tools to start it, same problem. I have restored back a couple times and have never had this problem. So I ended up undoing both system restores and am back to the firewall problem. I can't get rid of it no matter what I do.
my sister is going to college with one of our old laptops. It has a 1.6 GHz Celeron and about 180 MB of RAM. I need security (firewall, antivirus), but I don't want it to slow down the system a lot. Just recently when I'm surfing the web, i receive a popup telling me that there has been a security brief of the blackworm virus and it tells me to download this WinAntivirus Pro 2006. When I just exit out of the pop up, it freezes my computer. I already did a full scan on my computer and removed the spyware that i detected, but i'm still getting that pop up once in a while and im not sure what to do anymore. I also did a live update and then scanned the computer but nothing is showing up.

I keep it very clean, anyway enuff of my sadness.Jus recently i was hit by a virus. AVG free, finally cleaned it up, and now im receiving Windows Security Alerts. The exact message is "To help protect your computer, Your registry has to be fixed. To resolve theis problem, obtain the latest update." only trouble is, i click accept, it downloads this program called System Registry Cleaner 2.4, and then i have to pay for it before i can use it. I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.
