I am running XP Pro SP3. From Windows Explorer, if I were to click on File > New, I am met with a list that includes Folder and Shortcut, followed by a large number of entities corresponding to files types. E.g., Microsoft Office 2007 Database, Briefcase, Microsoft Office Word Document, etc. These file type entries I never use.Where is this list maintained, and how can I remove most if not all of the file type entries contained therein?
How can I get my XP theme and Classic theme options to return to the pull-down menu in the themes tab of the display properties window.I don't know what I did but my pc went all funny and they just vanished in a blink of an eye. Could someone experienced in this type of problem please help me find where they are and help me return them as an option.
Back in my MS-DOS days I could get the directory of a folder and direct it to a text file. Now I'd like to do that again, but I can't figure out to make it work in Windows Explorer (for XP, but I also have Vista on my notebook).Do I have to run a DOS window. Is the syntax the same? (Can I remember it?) Are there any shareware or freeware program managers that provide this function?
I just added a "Directory List Print" to my right click options and somehow the default choice (highlighted at the top of the list) changed from "open" to "search".
Apparently the default selection governs what happens when you left click. I want to restore "open" as the default choice, but can't figure out how. Does it require a reg edit or a utility program or what? TIA
Outlook Express folder list and Contacts list are not showing. I've walked her through the process of clicking on View at the top of the Outlook Express Interface and setting the Layout items so that her Contacts and Folder list should be on the screen, but they are not. I've tried everything I can think of to rectify the situation and I've run out of options. The way it is without her folders list she cannot access her deleted folder and her sent folder and cannot delete anything from those folders. Is there anything else I can do to bring up those her contacts list and her folders list?
When I click on the "All Programs" in the start menu, it comes up in one long single listing. It used to be 2 listings, when the 1st had enough, the second listing would be next to it. However it's all in a single listing now. How can I get it back to 2 lists?? This is a clear explanation.
I am running xp sp2, and when you click on start-all programs, a list should show..i lost assesories, and all the other standard ones, the only thigs that are there are programs i loaded, but the puzzleing thing is its on my lap top and only under on user name, not the 4 others..make sence?
A little while ago I transferred some of my CD and vinyl collection on to my PC using Windows Media Player 9+, all in all about 1500 songs transferred randomly, everything went fine.
I then copied these tracks over to my music folder in my Documents, from there sorted them into year or artist by making folders.
So for example, I might have 50 track's of various artists from the Fifties so I created a Fifties folder the same for the Thirties, Forties Sixties and so on. Where I have 50 tracks by the same artist, Buddy Holly or the Trogs I have created a folder called Buddy Holly or the Trogs and so on and I have no problem listening to any track on my PC via WMP
My questions are, when I open WMP, click media library, then click all music, in the left-hand column I can see all my tracks either under artist, album, or genre but it's not how I want it.
I just looked at a previous thread with the hangup of Add/Remove program with it never populating. Never get a clear answer, just added a backup drive, may have something to do with it hanging up?
I have tried searching this forum and did some Googling but haven't seen a cure for this. I have a pretty fair amount of programs installed and my 'all programs' list is pretty long. The problem is it takes almost 30 seconds to scroll from the top to the bottom, which is annoying when I want to start a program that's at the bottom (or top) of the list. Does anyone know of a registry hack or something that can speed it up?
I am using Windows XP SP2. When I go to Start/programs I have items listed separately ie: Canon has 5 separate items. Is it possible to put these into a folder under Canon?
All the entries on the "all programs"list show empty although the associated programs are still operative. Any clues as how to fix this? Useing XP Home SP3
When I right click on a file and select "open with" there is a program on the list that I do not have anymore which is adobe acrobat reader 5.0. I have XP home.
Is there a way to remove certain things from the Add/Remove Programs file list? I've manually deleted about seven programs, because their Uninstall would not startup, but the programs stay on the list.
I have a PC running Windows 2000 (Me) and I getting the following error message:
Terminating thread due to a stack overflow problem. A VxD, possibly recently installed, has consumed too much stack space. Increase the setting of 'MinSPs' in SYSTEM.INI or remove recently installed VxD's. There are currently 15 SPs allocated. Press any Key to continue.
When I press any key I get the following error message:
There are no spare stack pages. It may be necessary to increase the setting of 'MinSPs' in SYSTEM.INI to prevent possible stacks faults. There are currently 16 SPs allocated. Press any Key to continue.
When I press any key I get the first error message again and again. The number of SPs allocated in the error message keeps increasing every time I press a Key.
The only way to acces my PC is with the SAFE Mode.
My add/remove programs list still shows items uninstalled and is missing installed items such as IE 6 I have downloaded several "fixit tools" which fixed nothing and compounded the problem.
After looking through microsofts list of cmd tools I realized that I don't have several of them. I have xp home edition sp3 .I'm guessing that not all the tools are included in the home edition. If that is true does anyone know where I would be able to download the ones that my OS does not have.I have double checked my i386 files on the install disc and found nothing there that I do not already have
this was my most recent log.. and while i'm not 100% on which to delete and which to ignore, i know for sure that there's quite a few things that need to go.
also, could you please let me know which things i can put in the "ignore list".
I have done a search in the newsgroup and come up empty. Is there a way to clear you search list in google. Everytime I go to do a search, is provides a NOW large dropdown list. This is not necessary, is there a way to clear it?
I had gone to a couple of gaming sites researching on some games and out of nowhere, it had popped up adult sites all over the place. I did all my spyware software and cleared out all the adult crap, but all of a sudden, they are showing up on my address dropdown list! Even after running the software, I thought that would clear them off the list.Is there anyway besides clearing out all of the history that I can get rid of the one or 2 individual adult web addresses?
A minor problem. When my "Favorites" list becomes crowded I highlight items and delete them. Simple. Now the dropdown list from my Address Bar has become crowded and I realize I don't know how to delete old items. Can't highlight and delete like the Favorites.
My sisters computer has a dilemma. You know windows has users you can log on with and it has your settings and files there for you as soon as you logon. well she comes home after 2 days and now its gone, and the other user (my dad had 1 when he loaded the windows for her, is there, but her files(mainly pictures) and settings arent there). Anyone know what happened, and how to retrieve these users and/or files?Windows comes up you used to be able to pick between Dad and sister, now only Dad is there.
On starting my computer there are 2 icons missing from my list. Why has this happened and how can i get them back?My recycle bin is empty so I am at a loss as to what to do.
How do I create folders and combine like programs that show in "All Programs". I want to put all the various utility programs I have into one folder called "Utilities"?
I want to print a list of all the programs I have on my pc, as I am wanting to do a total re-install. I have used the 'uninstall list' from highjack this, but not all of the programs are listed. There are shortcuts on my desktop, which are not in the program list.can I get a complete list of all the programs.
When I go to the start button and click on all programs a screen comes up with all my programs. The problem with this is that I can't see all of my programs. Win XP Pro creates a screen that is not wide enough to display all my programs. My question is there a way to move the left edge of the screen to the left edge on my monitor so I can see all my programs. This screen doesn't go to the left edge of my monitor and you can't just click on the left edge and drag it to the left. It doesn't move. There should be a piece of code that tell XP where to display on screen. Can I get access to this code and move the left edge of this screen to the left as far as possible? I have approximately 115 programs and XP displays 3 columns plus a half of another column that I can only read a few letters in the forth column. Can the width of these columns also be made smaller so that I could view all of them? I'm sure there is a way to do this but I have never seen this problem addressed anywhere.
