My PC, which is a Compaq Presario, displays "ending program" for a whole series of applications whenever I shut down the unit. Sometimes as many as 8 different programs prompt "ending Program" whenever I try to shut down the PC. Examples of the types of programs prompting to be be shut down include "ctfmon, explorer, ATI Tray," and others. I also get the message "autodown.exe dll initial;ization failed".
View 7 RepliesWhen I start up my computer, everything's fine. afeter a while, when i go to open a prgogram, like Internet Explorer, an error message pops up. It says "Insuffecient System Resources Exist to comlete the requested service". Then i have to restart my computer to be able to run anything.When I go to shutdown my computer, and error message reading "MODSCONF.EXE - DLL INITIALIZATION FAILED" pops up. When i press "ok" another pops up reading "FXDXSSVC.EXE - DLL INITIALIZATION FAILED". Then, when i press ok on that one, the MODSCONF one pops up, and the whole thing repeats itself. So i have to hold the power button to shut it down.

It even happens for the "Show Desktop" icon in my Quick Launch bar.
All these files are just on my local hard drive.
when surfing the net and ending up with bsod? nvnrm.sys seems to be the problem. but don`t know what this is or how to fix. nforce 4 motherboard with latest drivers suspect the nforce drivers only happens on certain sites
View 7 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a pdf file that had a dot at the end e.g. page.pdf. It is zero length, shows in explorer as a system, hidden file. Can not delete or move. I can move a directory with one of these files in it but I can't do that with My Documents.Error message: Cannot move file: Cannot read from the source file or disk.
Did a run cmd and tried move and del and attrib.
My computer started running slow. I noticed in Task Manager that there were processes that ended in ' .t ' Running a search on my computer showed that there are over 100,000 .t files now on my computer. I've run Spy Sweeper, which blocks some of these from starting up, but won't get rid of them. Same with Spyware bot. What are these files? and how do I get rid of them?

It tries to boot, get to the Windows splash screen and the gas gage starts running across the bottom of the screen and then it hard reboots.I have tried this hard drive on a system that is up and running as the secondary drive, just to get my data off Well the system tells me that the drive is not formatted and wants to format it. I tell it NO and shutdown.
I could use an upgrade VISTA CD and upgrade my broken system disk and preserve the data?I'll go out and purchase what ever software I need to get this up and running, I am getting desperate
i remote into my XP box everything is fine except when i shut down using a shutdown shortcut and other shutdown utilities no matter what after i get booted off the remote session the computer looks like its shutting down then stays on for a few seconds then a BSOD appear. I have been trying to figure out why for the past week and no solution so im hoping someone can chime in..The problem is only on remote if i shut down locally never a single BSOD and no hardware has changed. No driver issues. ive read and tried all the usual solutions. Need someone here to chime in on specifics.Ive also tried to remote in with bare minimum and no go. same thing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is weird. I have to go through the shutdown procedure twice, i.e., Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok, then Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok again. It will then shutdown properly. The same thing happens when I try to "Restart." After doing the first shutdown sequence, everything is normal. I can open programs, surf the web, etc. It's as if I never tried to shut it down at all. Only after the second shutdown procedure will it shutdown fully. One note: When I go through the first shutdown sequence, my taskbar pops up and the desktop is darkened. After clicking Ok, the taskbar autohides and my desktop returns to its normal color.I have only had this problem for the last month or two. Before that, all was fine. It's not critical since I can shut it down. It's just annoying to have to do it twice.I have Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, build 5.00.2195.

When I select "Start" then either shutdown or reboot, my desktop will flicker a couple of times, and then nothing appears to happen. I must select "start" again and then either shutdown or reboot and then they will work as expected.

When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.

I was able to locate them using "search" then open and pin to start menu. (The search function displays i.e. shortcuts for "administrator", "guest" and the other user, but not for me. The icons do display on the "all programs" list for the other user). Any suggestions as to how to get them back on the "all programs" menu?

I have temporarily solved this problem by renaming cmd.exe just to another name of cmg.exe so that it cannot be opened but I do run batch programs so have to keep changing the name when required. It is always this program--iexplore.exe always that one. One time I looked into the task manager and it had like 5 or 6 of the iexplore.exe in the application part. anyway it is getting quite annoying. I ran asquared when this was happening and it caught what it said was a trojan (didn't write it down) I deleted it and it seemed to work for awhile. But now it is back to the same ole thing. Can someone enlighten me on what might be wrong? It is on both of my computers.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI keep getting the NT Authority shutdown every now and again (maybe every three days or so), but I do not have any viruses, worms, trojans, etc, that I can find. Secondly, when I reboot the pc it comes to the wallpaper but wont go any further, I have to reboot three times or more before it works. the pc keeps dropping the broadband connection, then immediately saying it cant reconnect as the modem is in use, and I have to reboot before I can connect again. I cant find how the modem is in use. Also, random programs tend to crash now and again, and when I click to submit the report and get more information, it tells me microsoft cannot determine the cause of the crash. It isnt any particular program or any particular task/time.
