My gilrfriends son messed up her Media Center computer and his father used F10 instead of system restore, but the files are still there. To prevent this from occurring again, my girlfriend asked me to password protect the computer. I set myself up as the adminstrator, since I build computers and have the most knowledge, but have only been using XP for the past 6 months. I've read that the account is now hidden and know how to access it from safe mode. When I set it up, it asked me if I wanted to protect the
files and folders, such as My Documents. Stupid me did this. Now even though I have set my girlfriend up with an adminstator account, I can't find a way to share or allow her to access those files, and all her pics are there. I also can't delete the admistrator account I made, even though it says that can be done through her adminstrator account, but there is no option there. I want to do two things. I want to unprotect the files and folders I made private, and I want to delete the adminstrator account I made. F10 restore or system restore won't even do this.
In Windows XP Home Edition I have 2 account with differit name. Both is administrator computer. One of this wont log off and I cannot restart, my computer, not even with my Task Manager .I receive the message:

when i tried to log on to my account it said loading personal settings i thought to myself that's fine then this message cam up and it said, there is an error which is stop the computer accessing your account and also it says or you do not have the sufficient rights to enter the account then it says press ok so i pressed that then it said we are now making a temporary account for you to go on and any changes made will be lost then i pressed ok. So now i have a new account and all my information has been wiped from that account. But the funny thing is i go on the administrators account and i can see my files so it must be still there but it is just stopping me from getting onto my account.

I was on it that morning and it worked perfect and i shut it down properly before school only to find that when i got home it wont let me logon to a windows user account. After booting the windows user account pops-up and after selecting my account the computer will shut down. A friend of mine said that there might be something wrong with the winlogon but i cant find any info about that online. Right now im using safe mode with networking and i also tried accecsing the boot menu and selecting "disable automatic restart after system failure". Now rather than restarting it gives me a blue screen that reads:

I recently changed my .net framework to my computer administrator and my user account to limited account and when i turn on my computer it only shows my User account which only has limited access and I can't do anything about it. Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.

A friend wanted to buy it so I purchased a copy of Windows XP so they'd have their own license, but instead of rebuilding the box, I wiped all the pertinent programs and info they didn't have licenses for and changed the license number to theirs. The problem is, I want to change the user account name under c:documents and settings to reflect the new name.I have created a new ADMIN account, logged in as this account and renamed the account "mitch" to "don". All this does is creates a new user "don" and moves the "my documents" (I have downloaded numerous pdf files that I've created instructing him on how to update antivirus, antispyware and general info on computer use, security, etc. and placed it in the My Documents folder) from "mitch" to don".

I know all about pressing Ctr+Alt+Del twice and typing in your account and if that doesn't work, to use the "Administrator" account to enable your main account. The problem is that my administrator account doesnt even seem to have any administrator privelages... its just as useless as the guest account, or so it seems.I don't know what to think. I "see" the "Account Unknown" listed, but I am unable to access it. I tried signing in as the administrator, but no luck. I checked Windows help online, but no luck. I called Sony Vaio support, (support?), no luck. I am running XP Home Edition SP2 will all updates. I have found out that the files aren't gone, according to online readings, but getting to them is another matter. For example, my user account name is JandJ, and my computer's name is LOVEMACHINE.
When I attempt to log into JandJ (as usual), I get logged into JandJ.LOVEMACHINE instead....
I have 3 user accounts on my computer, 2 of which are admins and the 3rd is my 7 year old daughter. Instead of moving start menu programs around, can I just put it all into the all users folder and somehow check which folders/files in there her account can access?
Also, when running anti-spyware/anti-virus programs from my account, will it catch nasties in the other 2 accounts as well or do I have to run the programs from each user account?
It's apparently a lot safer to use a limited user account, and that's what I'm trying now, but it's also a pain-in-the-a$$.I also don't understand why the XP installer forces you to create another admin account, when you could simply login as 'Administrator'.You're supposed to login to the admin account to install everything, but when you do, in most cases, the shortcuts seem to only be created for the account you're logged into at the time. Very messy.The list goes on, and these things have probably been discussed before, but why is there a single 'Program Files' directory, which all users have access to? Surely there should be a separate directory for each user, so user A cannot access programs installed by user B, unless of course it was meant to be shared?

When I try I am asked to Open With but I do not know which programme to use, either on the computer or on the web.Don't mind downloading something but one demo programme was no use anyway for what I need.

I then tried to play it with windows media player and it did'nt work. So, I decided to just delete it but I keep getting this errror message: CANNOT DELETE THIS FILE IT IS BEING USED BY ANOTHER PERSON OR PROGRAM.
