i'm using XP with three partitions c-drive-40 gb o/s, d-drive-56 gb for downloads and e-drive 40 gb as an extra but i don't need it now, how can i delete e-drive and allocate the 40 gb to one or both other drives

Unfortunately, he allocated way too much space to the D drive and not enough to the C drive. Now I have 98 GB on my D drive, with 92 GB's free, and 16.5 GB on my C drive with less than 4 GB's free. Mike, your setup sounds pretty close to mine. I know I can change the partition sizes, and that's my next plan, but it seems like I've lost 2Gb into the abyss.
Problem with low disk space on the 1st of 2 hard drives. This hard drive is only 4 GB, and is my master drive. I have moved as many files as I possibly can to the second (larger) hard drive, without uninstalling and reinstalling all my programs.
Is there any way to simply get any "overflow" to "fall into" the other drive.
when I right click C: and check the disk usuage is shows me 3.52Gb in use. However, when I select all the contents of the C:( including the hidden files ) it show me 2.52Gb.

Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Well now, when I go to reinstall, it will not automatically start so I clicked on my computer and dvd-rw Drive (E and there are no files, in fact it states that my my file system is CDFS and the CDA Default - Full It says all space used 672 MB and Free Space 0 Bytes
My office has a number of mapped network drives for each user which, unfortunately, start at drive letter F.Each time a USB device is used on the computer it is also automatically assigned the drive letter F (presuming that C is hard disk and D and E are CD/DVD drives). This has to be manually changed from within Disk Management.Apparently this is as a result of physical drives taking precedent over the mapped network drives.Is there any workaround for this other than moving the mapped drive letters further along in the alphabet? - this is not really a feasible solution at this time.

I created a big enough partition and now the status of the partition is "UNALLOCATED". I used Partition Magic 8 and can't figure out howto change that partition form "UNALLOCATED" to NTFS!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 69.1 memory free from 74.5 and i noticed no matter how much i delete i cant get up into the 70s.For example this month i have deleted a ton of music files that came up to about 400mb,Then a few programs that were around 50mb each and still nothing .If anything it seems i am going down in memory instead of gaining from deleting these programs.

I have removed all but the latest restore point, reduced the max amount of restore point storage to 5%, and removed all of the programs that I don't use very often, moved all of my files to the D drive, clean the cache and remove cookies regularly, and use disk cleanup a lot. After all of this, I only have 1.25GB left in C drive. Not even enough space left to defrag the drive. Anyone have any suggestions? Before long I won't have ANY programs left. I don't use a TV card or anything like that, although I do have the capability to record but never use it.

The other drive while I know it is a dvd drive and I am thinking that this will be a burner drive. Neither drive will recognize that there is a empty disk in the drive. I've tried different media and various makes of CD's and DVD.'s. I can burn a disk in the Cd/DVD
drive using "Nero". And both drives will open if there is data, music, or pictures on the disk in either drive, but I cannot open a blank empty disk unless it is in conjunction with something I'm doing with Nero.
There are no yelow symbols in device manager. And I have uninstalled both IDE channels that the optical drive is on and on reboot win 2000 reinstalled them automatically. I have updated the firm ware for each drive. Replaced the USB cable for the external drive and before I reloaded the updated firm ware I uninstalled both drives and reinstalled with the updated firmware. My three malware/spyware
programs have been run as has both of my virus programs.
I want to install Windows XP on a new SATA HDD drive. The computer in question came with Windows Vista installed. There is no IDE option in the BIOS. There is no floppy drive on the unit. So it looks like I might have to slipstream all the drivers, etc., on to the unit (which I have no clue how to do). I do not have the motherboard make or model number, nor do I have the motherboard CD. My business partner is trying to take the cover off the laptop as we speak, but we're having trouble getting it off. Thus, as of now, we can't identify the motherboard manufacturer or the serial number.
Can anyone here point us in the right direction? The computer in question is a Compaq Presario c769us (laptop). It was purchased in June 2008. This all started when my business partner decided to use a Vista System Recovery CD to overwrite the existing copy of Vista that he had on the computer. After he ran the disk, the system stopped working. So right now, we have the old hard drive, which contains a non-working copy of Vista on it (which we can 't delete), and we have the new hard drive (a 250 GB Hitachi). So maybe we could just delete the copy of Vista on the old hard drive - the self drive test checked out okay on the old hard drive. So I guess the two options are - figure out a way to put XP on the NEW hard drive, or figure out a way to put XP on the OLD hard drive and delete Vista from it first. If we can put XP on the old hard drive and remove Vista from it, we could take the new hard drive back, and get our money back, too.
