Came home to a computer that has a blank screen. Rebooted and she goes through the bootup but remains blank. Restarted in safe mode and got the same results. This all comes on the end of battling a virus.
View 6 RepliesI've got a bunch of problems with my windows XP home right now:To start, the start bar (where it should be blue and bubbly) is the same as windows classic, which is odd.My computer crashed twice on friday (blue screen). My computer keeps telling me that I'm not connected to the internet even though I am (I use wireless cable internet). In the start menu, where it says "all programs" with the arrow, that wont show me all my programs.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get anything to work. I wanted to check Mcafee to make sure I didn't let it expire and allow a virus issue. Wouldn't open. Rebooted several times with no change. The lower Taskbar is off the screen and I can't seem to get it back, so no start button to access programs not on the desktop. I can open " my computer " but it won't tell me If I have an internet connection. I think I must have connectivity.

It was working fine then all of a sudden nothing it was frozen on blue screen i tried to restart then reboot and i tired to restore but nothing would work. I worked on it for 4 days straight until i got so mad i went to best buy and got a new computer but now i would like to use old one for kids to play on but i tried to reinstall from the disk that came with computer which it says that it did. I lost all my info on computer but i thought ok now i can get it going but it is so slow. I have not got it networked to connect to internet but i hate to spend money on stuff to do it if i cant figure out what is making it so slow.

Naturally, I fired up Acronis True Image and restored this morning's image, but I figure at some point they'll try to push this update down on patch Tuesday
I cannot start up XP. When I do a black screen comes up to try and boot up in other modes,( safe, normal, with previous configuration etc). None works. I went to BIOS message and it states an IDE driver for Fasttrack is missing/ not connected?

I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. Then when i went to turn it on it will display the sony vaio screen, then the intell pentium processor screen(normal for booth up, both of those), but then it just goes blank.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep a clean computer. Every day virus updates and scans, defrags, etc. I probably go overboard to make sure this rig stays healthy.But it's my lifeline to the world.
I'm in a third world country with no computer help at all...Barely a connection at time.That being said.3 times now when I boot up the computer runs through it's cycles, goes to the Windows XP page, and then absolutely nothing. Just a blank screen.
The same happens even when trying to go to safe-mode or debug. I'm lucky it's even working now.I've saved all my information.
I don't know what's going on with my PC. I have a HP 6420nx windows xp.
My PC suddenly froze while I was using it so I turned it off for a couple of minutes. THen when I turned it back on, it started making beeping noises. There was also no start up screen, the monitor is just blank.
When I turn my computer on it goes to the blue hp logo and then to a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner. If I hit f8 when booting it gives me 2 options...f1 to setup and f2 to resume. It won't let me go into safe mode or anything. I have tried booting from the xp cd, but nothing happens. I have tried replacing the battery and that hasn't done anything. It started when trying to open a program, the computer just went blank. I decided to restart the computer and a message keeps coming up, disk read error press ctrl alt delete. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?

i'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive
I have about an 2" black space around an open page on my screen......how do I get it to return to original full screen size?

I've been having this problem with my Dell Lattitude D505 Laptop where I put it on standby, and then about 10 seconds after taking it off standby, I get a blue error screen telling me the system crashed. It mentions on the screen something about BIOS memory. Looking through some other posts, I have seen mention of a correlation between this screen and BIOS. does anyone think that this BIOS memory thing is in fact the problem? How do I resolve anything that deals with this BIOS memory? The help section on my computer just defines what BIOS is, it doesn't state where I can find it on my comp.

Something like that. Then my desktop icons are huge and the color of everything is all messed up and I then have to reboot.Any advice, my computer runs XP is only a year old and ran perfectly until this happen. I forgot to create a restore point before installing the game. I am scared about what could happen to my computer.

When I went to restart it after the install it wouldn't restart it would get stuck at the blue welcome screen. Tried booting it into safe mode and it wouldn't even boot there. So finally I had to use the Windows XP disk and do a recovery. Well when I did that she lost all of her applications. I had to reload Office, Adobe, and it said that the Panda Antivirus was not installed correctly.So I tired to reinstall it and I get an error of Class not registered.I hoping not to have to do format and reinstall Windows Xp but I think there is some corruption in the computer.

I generally would claim i am generally computer literate. But, I cant find a reason for this to happen. ANYWAY!I turned it on one day, having done nothing to presumably harm a computer, and it goes to the windows loading screen with the blue bar and stay there forever, seriously i timed it the other day, from 1-9 pm it was "loading".I scanned everything while running in "safe mode". no problems. I tried restoring it to an earlier date said it restored successfully, but still sat at loading screen forever.

I did the restart as told and it did come back but then it happened a third time and upon the restart the computer will not come back on. Or let me explain further...the actual computer will turn on when I push the button, but no picture or desk top or anything will come on on the monitor. I tried another monitor to rule that out and still nothing. I also was told to try restarting in safe mode but still get nothing coming up loading on monitor just a black black monitor screen. I really need to get this back up if not for anything else but to save all my lost stuff before I have to get rid of it.

When trying to restart it, it asks whether to restart in Normal or Safe mode etc and then it gets as far as the Microsoft Windows XP screen and then restarts itself again.It gets to the same stage everytime and restarts. It won’t allow me to start in safe or normal mode.
