My computer fan constantly runs. It's an HP Pavilion dv5220us Laptop. It will go off sometimes, but only for a minute or so, then it kicks back on. It will go on when I'm not even using it and when it's not doing anything (like a virus scan or something).

This doesn't matter too much when running lower-end applications that require little activity, but when I run games that need much more of the CPU to run, I get skips every 5 seconds because "System" will run no matter what every 5 seconds.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm extremely frustrated, computer keeps freezing not sure why. The freezing occurs randomly sometimes it occurs just after startup while other times i can play a game for a few hours before it freezes. Ive been in a repair shop a couple times and they havent solved the problem despite replacing the mother board and power supply. They also reformated the computer and still get the freezing problem. Also when it freezes i turn the power switch off on the back and then i get a noise from the speakers that sounds like someone tapping on a the desk. How can i discover the problem?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer is so slow and constantly freezing...I constantly get a pop up warning about virtual minimum being too low, i went in and checked and the min was like 256 and the max was 5hundred something....I have scanned with avg, and housecall...nothing, I scanned with spybot, ad-aware, and Microsoft anti spyware...NOTHING...which i find it hard to believe im not accumulating any spyware but whatever... so 9i upgraded to high speed...No difference whatsoever... At first I thought it was just the internet that was messed up, but it began to freeze even though I wasn't using the internet. Randomly it would just freeze, sometimes after a few minutes others after a few seconds. I have to hit the power button because leaving it alone for a while won't work. I tried to clean the registry but it didn't work. I have a Windows XP, its a desktop computer, I have Intel, and its about 4 years old. if you need any more info please ask! However, when I start windows now I get an error message from Symantec PCAnywhere Update utility telling me that the program is not installed locally so the updater won't run.How do I remove this updater and stop it from trying to run at Windows startup? I've heard of running MSCONFIG from Start -> Run... but that doesn't seem to work on XP.

I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner
View 14 Replies View RelatedI want a program to run at startup and I want to be able to change what I have done at any time.
There are a number of unchecked entries in msconfig and I have to use Selective Startup all the time.
If I want to revert to Normal Startup under the General tab instead of Selective Startup, the program's box automatically rechecks itself in Startup.
The Startup tab gives me a handy record of what I did and allows for an easy change of mind so long as I continue to use Selective Startup.
If I edit the Registry to stop programs running at startup, they won't show in msconfig and I lose the handy record of how it was and I may have to reinstall the program to go back to it running at startup.
I would like to accomplish this:
1. Use Normal Startup instead of Selective Startup.
2. Have some programs not run at startup, but be able to easily change back to having them run at startup.
3. Have a readily accessible list of those programs and the details as shown under the Startup tab as a reminder of how it was without having to manually enter it all into a text file or keep a notebook or reinstall.
Is there some way to use Normal Startup, stop programs running at startup, but retain or find a list of those programs (including the details under the headings Startup Item, Command, Location) that is shown when using Selective Startup with unchecked boxes under the Startup tab?
To put it another way, use Normal Startup but somehow retain the convenient flexibility of Selective Startup.
How can I tell which processes don't need to be running on my machine? I think that may be some of what is slowing down my comptuer.

View 14 Replies View Relatedwhen i tried to log on to my account it said loading personal settings i thought to myself that's fine then this message cam up and it said, there is an error which is stop the computer accessing your account and also it says or you do not have the sufficient rights to enter the account then it says press ok so i pressed that then it said we are now making a temporary account for you to go on and any changes made will be lost then i pressed ok. So now i have a new account and all my information has been wiped from that account. But the funny thing is i go on the administrators account and i can see my files so it must be still there but it is just stopping me from getting onto my account.

To the online games, the bill for the internet is too high because of online playing, watching movies, surfing the web each after each.
This computer has Windows XP. I am not the first user of this computer, and cannot figure out why an alarm is sounding. I first thought it might be security when I am online, or auto updates, but it happens when I am just word processing or logged in. Will not stop until turn off computer. And sometimes will begin again immediately after restart.

I'm not exactly sure what is causing this issue so I don't exactly know where to put it. If one of the staff here has a better suggestion and can move it there I would be greatly appreciative. Now on to my problem.I have a computer here that randomly seems to lock up. What I mean by that is, you can be typing an e-mail and the words stop displaying, a few seconds later the screen will flash and your text will start filling in (it isn't suddenly there, you can actually watch it fill in the letters). Nothing moves on the screen at all until the flash.

upon start of my windows xp pro a runtime routine starts with the command looking somehow like this:shutdown -t-g 00 -f.Before I can even react the computer shuts down. Any idea how i can get this strange command out?Now i read also an exe file "soundman.exe" which looks strange to me..... but not much more i can see - all happens too quick,Already tried system reset, repair of xp via disk, update to sp2..... the command remains in place.
