Well I just normally restarted my computer and when I did I got this message. Everytime I try to restart I get this message that wondows did not start properly and I tried all of them nothing work's and I didn't get the Windows XP cd D:It's a Compaq Presario Desktop.
My computer was shut down unexpectantly by a power outage. When I turned it back on, it stated that Windows did not start successfully & to choose one of the options: Safe Mode ~ Safe Mode with Networking ~ Safe Mode with Command Prompt ~ Last Known Configuration ~ & Start Windows Normally. At the bottom of the screen it counts down until you choose an option ... unless the time runs out, then it tries automatically to start up. None of the options worked though. Everytime, the computer starts to run, then the Gateway Logo screen shows up, the computer make a "grunting" sound, & it goes back to the screen telling me that windows did not start up successfully.
I'm looking at a lap top for a friend. When it boots up, it starts normally and then on a black screen it says that windows did not start successfully. It gives a list of ways to boot up, safe mode safe mode with network, some others, then last known good config. None work. Which ever I try I then get a blue screen with "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage. An attempt was make to write to read only memory." It then tells me if it's the first time I'm seeing the screen that I should reboot etc.
I recieved the following message after a forced restart after windows updates were installed: "We are sorry for any inconvenience but Windows was unable to start successfully" My options are to start in Safe Mode , Last known config or normal. Safe Mode is the only thing that works. Also System Restore would not work Also System Recovery from Sony Vaio Recovery Wizard would not work
I have XP pro on my computer. My computer froze up so I had to turn it off manually. And now it wont restart. I tried all the options but nothing seems to work. It just goes back to this same screen again. Please help. I have tons of very valuable information on my computer.Everything was fine. Next time pc was started it did the boot process and then a DOS screen appeared telling me that Windows did not start successfully and on lower part of screen it gives you 4 choices to start in safe mode and one choice to start at the last known configuration that worked. None of these choices come up. The computer just keeps restarting and then the screen comes up about Windows not starting successfully.
My computer cannot boot up for some reason. Whenever I try to boot it up, the following text will appear, white words on a black screen: We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power of failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you arent sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.
I got that typical windows did not successfully start thing come up today. It was working fine yesterday even did a virus scan and it picked up nothing. Turned it on today, it loaded up then this came up so I go on google to try and get help and I put in my windows CD and go onto repair, it use to come up with an error but thats gone now and I can access the repair function but it asks me 'Which windows and installation would you like to log onto' and from there I'm stuck.
I really need some help. My thoughts are that this does not look good at all but hopefully somebody out there can help me. Thanks for any assistance whatsoever. I'm at work at the moment and the affected PC (Acer Aspire Laptop) is at my home so any remedial action will have to wait until I'm at home tonight but would be interested in any comments in the meantime. I do plan on taking another laptop home with me tonight so I can at least get onto these forums. I was in the middle of something last night (had just updated virus protection and on a bank website I think) and everything just closed down on me. when it tried rebooting, i was presented with the following (i.e. white text on black like when it's normally booting up): We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
I rebooted my system, which windows XP Pro versiopn 2002 with service pac 1, after several weeks of being connected to the internet with no problems. After the reboot windows will not start see the attachemnt for a photo of the monitor.
I have Sony Viao VGN-S460 with windows xp home edition already installed. My computer froze so I restarted my laptop and get this screen: We apologize, windows did not start successfully.
When booting up my pc, I continue to receive the 'We apologize for the inconveneince. Windows did not start successfully' screen ., and then asks me to select from, The timer counts down, but I am unable to choose any of the options. the window then appears to freeze.I can't do anything with the pc only turn it off from the on/off button.
When trying to log on to my PC I am getting:We apologise for the inconvience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedlly,or was shut down to protect files and folders, choose Last Known good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interupted due to power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed.
I have a Toshiba T9100 laptop, and recently while I was listening to some music with Windows Media Player it suddenly crashed, showing a blue screen with the error description 'Unmountable Boot Volume'. When I try to restart it, a black screen appears saying:We apologize for any inconvienience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
Before I describe it in length, Here are a few things about my system, my OS, my hardware:I use an iMac that runs XP on a partition using Bootcamp. I use this mainly for gaming and Steam, so I don't necessarily care about wiping the hard drive... but I haven't been able to find my XP disc and it would generally be favorable (although not crucial) if there were a fix that doesn't involve losing all my stuff on XP and suffering through 50 GB of re-installations. I also have Avast! and haven't downloaded anything (outside of downloads while joining servers in Source engine games) within the previous 48 hours of having this issue.
I've just tried turning my computer on this morning and it's not quite working - I'm on a friends computer at the moment.I'm running window XP, I have recently had some help from the 'spyware, malware' section of this forum in removing some virus's and trojans, we managed to stop all the intial problems however now. When I turn the system on, it does it's first page fine (the one that has the system information) then goes to the screen that says "windows didn't start successfully, a recent hardware or software change might have caused this" and gives me the start up options of 'safe mode', safe mode with networking', 'safe mode with command prompt', 'start windows normally' and 'last known good configuration'. I've selected all the options once and they all do the same thing - once selected it goes to the windows xp screen and looks likes it's loading then a blue screen with some information on it pops up for a micro second, the system then restarts itself and goes back to the safe mode options screen.
My daughter's laptop has sudenly refused to start WINXP. Got the "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" white text on black screen message. It gives the option to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt or "last Known Good Configuration" ..together with "start windows normally" which is the default automatic restart. It says "if a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose start indows normally".
Picked up a computer from my parents the other night that has stopped working. When it is turned on it goes throught the normal process of recognising the BIOS, running some checks on processor, memory clock, primary master etc., but once these checks are done it jumps to the screen that says: We apologize for the inconveneince. Windows did not start successfully etc., and then asks me to select from Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with command prompt Last known configuration Start Windows normally
I have a dell xp home. I can download the updates but it always says can't successfully update. I just did a repair of the OS and thought that would surely fix the problem. It didn't. It still won't process the downloads into successful updates.
I have been having this issue for quite some time now, haven't been able to install any updates. Its getting rather annoying. Heres a link to what i see everytime i try to install something via windows update.Theres the whole list but it doesn't matter, no matter what i try to install from Windows update, it wont install
I'm having a little trouble with doing windows updates on this machine. I have tried everything suggested. The updates will download but always fail. However this system did have over 300 different types of malware, but I have removed these using MS Antispyware and Norton Antivirus 2004. I even got SP2 installed from a CD.
"The following updates failed to be installed successfully: 816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM) Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374)" And NO ERROR MESSAGES, and nothing in the logs...
I keep trying to reinstall Windows Updates for my XP that won't install. These are the ones that will not install successfully...Security Update for Word Update for Office 2003 Security Update for Excel 2003 Security Update for Publisher 2003 Update for Office 2003 Update for InfoPath 2003 Security Update for Office 2003 Office 2003 Service Pack 2 Security Update for Office 2003 Security Update for PowerPoint 2003 Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 Update for Outlook 2003 Security Update for Office 2003 The message I get is that "Updates were unable to be successfully installed".
I am having problems updating windows xp. After clicking on the selected updates to download (only the critical ones), the updates start to download, but then a notice that says the updates were "unable to be successfully installed". There is no reason for this given and no other error message. This happened to me in Feb. and I was able to google the error message Windows update gave me. The solution involved going into DOS & clearing something, but I can't remember what it was or where I found the instructions to do it.
I believe its a problem with the actual start up button instead of the computer itself, ive pried the thing open, seeing the generator is on, everythings in place and there are lights on, showing there is power. any ideas?
To start, when I try to play an .avi file, real player and windows media player both encounter a fatal error. Thinking there may have been a windows update I went to update.microsoft.com to get updates. I was able to download all of the updates, but I could not install any of them. I tried to install them via express and custom updates on the website, via automatic updates, and virtually every other method I could think of. After researching the problem I came across similar problems with an array of solutions, including trying in safe mode, running sfc /scannow, uninstalling and reinstalling .net, shutting off and turning back on both automatic updates and cryptographic services, changing .dll files (lccwiz & pidgen), renaming the Software Distribution folder, downloading one update at a time, and other things that I can't even begin to think of at this moment, obviously with no success, as well as running SpyBot, AdAware, and Norton.
Im new, so bear with me please. The problem is on my old Sony Viao Model PCG-6H4L XP. I wanted to start fresh and the recovery system for windows gives me only a limited number of dates. I thought that the Viao recovery would do the job.I was wrong. I haven't checked recent forums about problems with this, so I went ahead and broke my laptop. Before the Recovery system starts, my laptop says, with a black background.
I have an older somputer I use to Host Games online...seemed fine last few nite .however the last 2 oe 3 times I have started it...it takes forever to start and a screen appears saying sorry for any inconveinince but windows could not start..etc etc..gives options to start in Normal mode safe mode or last known good configuration..wich is what I tried after turning it off and back on again..still nothing..I can get it to start in safe mode....but it wont boot up in normal mode..just hangs at "Windows XP" screen...Its an older Pentium4 Dell Dimension4300.
I'm working on a laptop (XPpro) that won't install the available windows updates. It downloads them and then tries to install each one and fails. I then get a list of the updates that were not installed with the ever helpful message "updates were unable to be successfully installed". I pulled the error 0x8024200e out of the windowsupdate.log file.
I am new to this form, so I guess I will just start. I have a,Dell Dimesion p4 2.5 ghz or close?windows XP service pac 2.I use it mostly for college papers and the internet. no gaming. It's about two years old, always do the windows updates.Three days ago my computer was running great. Then for whatever reason it just shut off by itself. I started it back up, it was fine for about 1 day then it shut down. I tried to start it again, but, to no avail.I got a screen that had rows of color bars with numbers in them.I opened up the box, it was pretty dusty, so I cleaned it up.I started to resolve the problem by checking to see if the ram was bad. I took one bar out and tried to restart after each ram chip. the result was the dell logo comes on tries to start no more color bars ( the fan starts out fine then takes off real fast) then it shuts (all power) down. I try, when I power on to tap the f8 key, or f12 key to get into the bios it shuts down befor anything can happen. I think that is it. I want to thank anyone for there time in helping me resolve this problem.
I have two computers with "issues", and now it's gotten so bad, I just need to get them sorted out. This is "my" desktop. I don't think I have had a thread on it before. But my daughter uses it for school and surfing and I have a feeling where my kids surf, it's infecting our computers.
I was using my computer one day when i had been playing a game.I took out the game cd so i could start using different cd for something else but strangely i went to my computer and it still showed the game cd as being in the drive. I thought well no problem ill just restart the computer and it should be fine. I did, and when i logged in, a new problem. All of my desktop was missing, and it had been loading for a few minutes so i just cut it off again and turned it back on in hope that it would finally work correctly. Instead, the opposite happened When i turned it back on for the 2nd time, it went to the screen where it says "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully." So, i have the option of choosing safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last good configuration, or normally. Unfortunately, not a single one of them work.
