Where to get a complete list of WIN XP system commands? Like the cnfgsys and powercfg. Along with what they are used for, it would help out especiall when MS support for XP dries up.

Another one was: Microsoft Out of Bounds. I have Windows XP Home Edition with all updates.I have ZoneAlarm free and McAffee AntiVirus.Nothing has been detected.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI use V-Com Fix It as my suite to handle system maintenance including antivirus protection. When I try to run a scan, it goes through memory scan fine and starts working on the actual files. At some point it chokes on a file and the system starts acting strangely. The icons in the taskbar either disappear or duplicate, but when I run the cursor over them they usually disappear. If I try to launch a program I'm given various error messages like it's a bad image or not a valid system 32 file. The only solution is to reboot and that can usually only be accomplished by hitting the reset button on the case. (After posting this message, I'm going to do it again and post more of the messages I get) My CounterSpy programs scans fine, with no suspicious problems. I got Karsperky's online virus scanner to run and it didn't find anything suspicious either.
I think the problem surfaced shortly after installing .NET Framework, but I'm not sure that's the problem. I've tried uninstalling .NET Framework, re-installing version 2.0, but the same problem occurs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Fix It. I've tried using MSCONFIG to do a diagnostic boot with no mandatory service running, but still had the problem. The problem has also happened on its own without the virus scanner running. The autofile scan was probably running in the background though. The PC had been sitting for a few hours.I REALLY don't want to do a complete reinstall of XP if I don't have to. So, I'm hoping somebody here can come up with some other stuff to try.I'm running XP SP2, Fix It 7, CounterSpy 2, Kerio Personal Firewall.
When I start my computer (windows xp), before the "signing in" screen comes up this error message shows up:
lsass.exe - system error insufficient system resources exist to complete the API
I know that there is not enough free disk space, but I cannot access my drives to free up some space. Safe mode and Debug mode do not work either
I tried to use the System Restore function on my HP and it runs, but gives a message that System Restore can't complete and doesn't work. I even manually set a Restore point and tried to go back and restore using it, but got same message?Do I have any options, such as reinstall Restore or is there something else I can do?

Yesterday I realised I was out of space on the C: drive (6MB I think) and was planning to delete/move files to free up space tonight. However after switching it on today it comes up with the lsass.exe system error - 'insufficient system resources exist to complete the API'. It only offers the choice of OK and when you click this it restarts and comes up with the same error again, and you can repeat this forever

I tried everything I could before I did a recovery, but it did not help. I thought I had all my important files backed up but that was not the case. My question is, can I retrieve any files now that I have done a complete system restore? I am trying to retrieve all my Quicken files. How would I go about it?

Whenever I try to hibernate my computer, the message, "Insufficient system resources to complete the API." comes up. Afterwards, anything concerning hibernation disappear and the hibernation button cannot be clicked. My system details are as follows: Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows XP Media Center Edition. 1.73 ghz processor with 1.50 gb of ram. (I have heard that having over 1.0 gb of ram might cause this, but I could not find anything that could fix it.)

the computer hibernates just fine if i start it up and hibernate immediately... but if i open anything, even if only for a few minutes and then close it again, then when i try and hibernate, it'll act like it's starting to hibernate and then give me the message:

Happens during a simple COPY/PASTE routine. We get this error code copying anything into WORD.
Both systems have more than enough "resources" available.
Both systems run XP Pro and have all the latest updates.
My system has 1.5GB RAM hers has 1GB Ram. There's more than enough HDD space available as well

Just recently reinstalled windows and reformatted and was in the process of gradually getting everything set up and installed, when my drive disappeared. I don't know exactly when, but it was gone. I checked the device manager and it said the driver was corrupted, no updated driver available, so I uninstalled and restarted. Upon restart, Windows recognizes the drive and begins to install it

Now, I know there a some of them that I need. example: "AVG Update Service". But there are many most, in fact that I haven't a clue about what they do or if I really need them. For example: "Cryptographic Services". What in hell is that? What I'd like to do is disable all the stuff that I don't really need, so that I'm not wasting resources. View 4 Replies View RelatedSpybot Search and Destroy had finished scanning my computer (Dell Dimension e520 running Windows XP service pack 2). I then clicked on it to fix the problems it found, and started doing something else on Tradestation. A short time later, a message popped up on my screen that I had never seen before. It basically said there was a system fault, that my computer was going to reboot in 60 seconds, and that I should save all my work. The only thing I remember about the message was that it said something about "NT" system fault or error fault or something like that and a timer counted down from 60 seconds. There was no way for me to cancel it. A separate message from Spybot also popped up. I don't recall what it said other than it asking me if I wanted it to start automatically before everything loaded up the next time I started my computer because of something it had found or that had occurred. But I wasn't able to click OK before the time ran out because I was too busy trying to figure out why I was getting these messages and save my work at the same time.
My computer then rebooted. However, while Windows was loading, it stopped and gave an error message stating that a particular file (hal.dll) was missing or corrupt. On my computer I have the hard drive partitioned into two drives, C: and E:. Both have Windows on them, but the E: drive is the main drive. When I reboot my computer, it asks me from which drive I want to start Windows. If I don't choose one, it automatically selects the C: drive, which is the one I always choose anyway. When I got the error message above, I inserted my XP CD, rebooted the computer, and booted Windows from the CD so I could try to repair it. I chose the repair option instead of the clean install option because I wanted to replace what I thought was just one missing or corrupt file. The software went through the process of what looked like a clean install, but I didn't think anything of it because I've used the repair option before and I seemed to recall this being the case and everything working out okay after it was done.
However, when my system rebooted automatically after the "repair" was done, and I chose to boot Windows from the C: drive, Windows loaded up as if it was a brand new install. Everything from my normal start up configuration was gone: all of my icons were gone, none of the programs that normally run on start up were executed, only one monitor of my multimonitor set up my four monitor setup was being displayed, etc. In addition, almost all of my devices were labeled as unknown devices in Device Manager. My cable modem wasn't recognized so I had no Internet connection (I'm writing this from my laptop, which has a wireless connection to the modem). When I looked at my directories, they all appeared to be intact along with the files they contained, except all of the files in the My Documents and My Pictures directories were gone. I suspect all of the files in other directories that are created when Windows is installed are probably gone as well. When I compared the Windows directories of the C: drive where the "repaired" install occurred and the E: drive, with which I had done nothing, I realized that I wasn't missing just one file, but several hundred files across multiple directories in the Windows directory on the E: drive. When I rebooted again and tried to start Windows from the E: drive, I got the same error message while Windows was loading that I got before I "repaired" Windows on the C: drive.
I called Dell tech support, but the person I got said he couldn't help me because Windows XP wasn't installed on the computer when I bought it. He seemed to imply that he knew the solution to my problem, but wasn't willing to help me at all because it was coporate policy, even after I pleaded with him that I was desperate. Oh, he was more than willing to help me if I had a problem with DOS, since that's the OS that came with the computer. After I begged him to help me, he actually had the nerve to snicker while he repeated like a corporate bot that he was very willing to help me with any DOS problems, as if this was a laughing matter. After that, I tried calling Microsoft, but they were closed. Is there any way I can restore my system to the way it was before all this happened? It will take me forever to figure out how to reestablish my Internet connection, reinstall all of my hardware (I didn't even get any "found new hardware" messages when Windows booted after my "repair") and software and then reinstall any upgrades to those. I am in dire straits here.
typing msconfig in the run box will not start up the utility. msconfig.exe is located in windows/pchealth, and nt servicepak uninstall. The pf files are located in windowsprefetch. how can I get the utility to run, sort of reloading xp.I have sp2 as well as all of the updates.all the other utilities run ok.

To access the system configuration utility, go to Start and click Run. Type msconfig and click ok. Click the tab labeled Startup. Uncheck any items for which you do not care if they load when Windows loads or you do not have any idea what they are. In Windows XP, no items that are listed here are essential to Windows running properly, so feel free to experiment. After you removed everything you don't need, click apply and then ok.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed suse on my computer and I also have windows xp installed on a seperate partition. Since I am an idiot I was on windows xp and I decided to delete the suse partition trough windows. After I deleted the suse partition, I restarted windows and like ususal it said Grub loading, but I got an error because obviously suse is no longer there, so I put in the win xp disc and tried to repair windows. I thought if I deleted the 956 mb swap partition it would correct the system from trying to load Grub, but it actually made things worse and now I cannot even load the windows xp disc. Now when I try to load the xp disc it says inspecting system configuration then the screen goes blank.
